In before the obligatory "Thanks OP - (breakfast/lunch/dinner) sorted for the rest of the month!" comment

    • Nah, right now the comment du jour would be “Cyclone prep sorted”

  • thanks!

Please if you care about your cat, their health, and vet bills, do yourselves and cat(s) a favor and avoid this 'food' like the plague: https://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/fancy-feast-cat-food-revie…

Plus, the brand is owned by Nestle who are notoriously unethical.

    • which food you recommend? is aldi cat food better? or whiskas?

      • +1

Whiskers is like maccas for cats. Once in a while ok, but all the time? Hell no.

      • If you're after a decent dry food that isn't too expensive Hypro Premium is good.

    • Wish I'd seen this earlier. and Catch doesn't allow order cancellation, somehow. Bah.

pls enlighten us with affordable alternatives

My cat has pretty much exclusively had fancy feast wet and dry food her entire life. She's 14 now and has never had any health issues so I've never felt the need to change her food as she enjoys it.

Not denying it's probably absolutely terrible for them, but my cat has had a good healthy life so far

    • +1

I only give my cat human-grade meat mix (beef, pork, kangaroo, chicken, etc), but sometimes she gets bored with the same food, so I mix in some canned salmon. This would be good for that purpose.

It's interesting, even when she really doesn't like the same food, she still eats them way before she touches the dry food. I offer dry food in case I forget to feed her.

      • Name does not check out

    • I can understand boycotting Nestle for being terrible, but that entire site is filled with utter nonsense, like how can you take this seriously?

By-products may contain beaks, feet, random organs, feathers, blood, and so forth. For nondescript “meat by-products” it may contain hooves, pig noses, roadkill, rats, and other pointless nasties. If we see “meat by-products” on a label we know there’s a reason why they won’t disclose what kind of meat. (https://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/analysing-ingredients/)

Take two seconds to critically evaluate this. Are they sticking rats in a blender? Are there roaming crews of Fancy Feast employees driving around in pick-up trucks scraping whatever bits of dead deer and racoon they can get off the pavement? Are they spinning a wheel to decide which 'random organs' to put inside the food today?

It literally takes a single google search to prove this is complete BS for any WSAVA approved product: https://wsava.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Frequently-Aske…

Animal by-products, whether it is from a single species such as chicken or beef, or a combination of animals such as poultry (chicken, turkey, and duck) or meat (beef, pork, lamb, and goat) are the edible parts of the animal other than the muscle meat, which meat is the primary product of the food animal industry. This includes things like liver and kidney, which are extremely nutrient rich, but not commonly consumed in some human cultures. Items that are specifically excluded from being used as by-product in pet foods are inedible items, such as hooves and feathers

Not to mention they contradict themselves in the actual review:

What we really have is a mixture of processed “not for human consumption” meat product, derived from the remains of chickens, cows, sheep, fish, and whatever else can be thrown in the pot to produce the cheapest meat and meat by-product ingredient possible.

Can't be fish or 'whatever else can be thrown in the pot' when they literally specify the animals it comes from in the ingredients a few paragraphs later… And what do they mean by “not for human consumption” meat product? Plenty of cultures eat offal.

Besides, that review is only for their dry food, for a product that doesn't seem to exist anymore. Not that I rate it highly, I wouldn't feed my cats their dry food as it's terrible value, cheap ingredients at a premium price. Same price per 100g as Royal Canin and other mid-tier brands with marginally cleaner ingredients (still too many fillers though).

But their wet food is acceptably average, B tier at worst. Never had a recall in 40 years, nutritionally balanced, very affordable (especially for tins), and I've never had a cat refuse to eat it even when sick. It only loses points for using cheaper ingredients and being owned by an unethical company.

Bought some earlier for my cat then tried to get another 6 slabs to donate to my rescue - put in another carer's name and address for delivery as she handles all the food for foster carers (me and the other carer live 40km apart and neither of us drive) - and my order was cancelled. nvm - I ordered again to be delivered to me and the chicken variety is now sold out - salmon all good though - for now.

  • Salmon sold out too

  • Damn, I ordered 5 box yesterday @ $16 each
