  • Is this the one that has issues with the sd card?

  • Did they fix the card memory card issue on this version?

    • +2

some people claim so. But it seems to be hit and miss.

They didn't. I got one and was curious about it. People claimed that certain serial numbers resolved the issue but this is apparently just the manufacturing month.

I've got a 2tb on the way from aliexpress..

        • +1

Yeah. Some people report having zero issues. But seems to be plenty of people having the same issues.

    waiting until $499.

They'll discontinue it before it goes that low.

I got one for my wife from fb Marketplace with a 2TB drive pre-installed. I've got it dual booting Windows and Bazzite with a shared partition for shared game installations.

Bazzite is very cool. I have an OLED Steam Deck and I'm kinda jealous of the ROG Ally.

    For anyone interested:

    • Boot some kind of partition manager (I used Gparted on Ubuntu Live). Wipe everything. Don't be scared, there's a Windows recovery option built into the BIOS.
    • Boot Windows installer (probably could have done the parition management here, skipping the first step).
    • Install Windows to a 64GB (65536MB) partition.
    • Finalise Windows install.
    • Boot Bazzite installer.
    • Following the Bazzite docs to a YouTube tutorial, set up custom partitions with the main btrfs Bazzite partition to 64 GiB, and then with the remaining space set it up as NTFS.
    • (I created the NFTS partition with GParted Ubuntu Live after finalising the Bazzite installation).
    • Finalise Bazzite install.

After that, there's some steps to mount the drive in Bazzite (Fedora) and then you should be able to add the drive in Steam storage settings.

    • Probably a big fat no but is there a way to add bootlegs to steam on bazzite like adding a non steam game on Windows?

      • I can try when I find them. Install warez on Windows to shared drive, and then attempt to run it in Bazzite.

Tried a FitGirl. That got stuck at 0.1%. Seems to be a RAM issue. Tried a CODEX. That installed. Switched to Bazzite, tried just running it but it failed due to some Proton permissions. I didn't troubleshoot any further.

@tonyamazing: Ahhh thanks for testing it out

            • @krisspy: I'm pretty sure it's achievable, but it's more effort than it's worth for me personally.

              • @tonyamazing: Yeah I honestly don't mind just having steam big picture auto launch if I do get one of these

  • Is this the best pick under $1000 currently?

    • same question here, I'm trying to figure out what to buy

  • Looks like this deal is no longer, currently $960 - 15% = $816.00 so i guess good 'ol Jack visited at some point :)

    • Kogan just un-jacked their price, now matches this deal.
