[eBay Plus, Refurb] Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 2, i5 1145G7, NVMe 256GB, 16GB, W11 PRO $319.20 Delivered @ SMG-AU via eBay

1990
OFF20

Am addicted to buying used tech for myself and family and had positive experiences with this store.

Seems like a decent price for an 11th gen intel, given 8th gens are still trying to be sold at around this price point.

Description says touch screen, has a thunderbolt port, ram is soldered, no spare nvme slot. Teardown video: https://youtu.be/cjPO3_pM5t8?si=QT9JPHtHRa855ufy

NOTE: Description indicates there may be medium case scatches and minor screen scatches (thanks mrvaluepack)

Confirmed with seller units do not have a backlit keyboard.

    Integrated Li-Polymer 46Wh battery, minimum 80% capacity
    13.3" FHD (1920x1080) Multitouch IPS 300nits Anti-reflection, Anti-Smudge 72% NTSC (100% sRGB)
    1x Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 40Gbps (support data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4)

    Not bad

Beware high cycle count on the small sized battery so you may need to budget for a new battery

  • +3

Damn this looks pretty good, would have loved a 14 inch but this might be close enough for a great price.

    • +4

It's a good robust machine, I've had the AMD version of this for 2 years. It's externally almost identical to the Intel model, according to NotebookCheck.
      https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-L13-Yoga-Gen-2…

The only downside is the 13" screen with rather large bezels.

Mine came with a stylus and it can be folded 180' to make a rather heavy tablet.

  • +2

Sharp price point for a late spec budget laptop.

  • +2

    Really good price

  • +1

This vs a Dell Latitude 5000 series equivalent? Specs are just about the same, just the brands are different. Haven't had experience with thinkpads before.

    • Think the dells for the equivalent generation (in the 5000 series) have a full aluminium chassis but otherwise I have the same impression. 3000 Series should be plastic and cheaper.

    • +10

Latitude is business grade laptop, L series Thinkpad is consumer grade.

Generally business grade laptops are better build, thinner, lighter, with longer battery life.

    • 32gb VS 16gb in favour of Dell?

    • Dell Latitude 5420 14” Touch Screen FHD Laptop
      Processor: Intel Core i5-1135G7 @2.40Ghz 4 cores 8 threads
      Memory: 16GB RAM
Storage: 256GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD
      Display: 14” Touch Screen FHD (1920 x 1080)
      Graphics: Intel(R) lris(R) Xe Graphics
      Operating System: Windows 11 Pro
      Camera: Integrated Webcam

Assuming the Lenovo in this OP is the better option?
Sorry I'm unfamiliar with tech terms.

      • +4

My impression is that the dell would be better, because of chassis quality, so if the prices are the same, go with the dell. Also believe ram is soldered on that dell from "memory"

        • +1

The 5420 has two ram slots, nothing soldered. Chassis is alright; not as nice as a T-series lenovo but should be better than an L-series.

          • @slimpickings: You are right, I should not have backed myself in this instance:
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iH8M_BjCCoU
Bigger battery and better cooling as well

            • +1

@Dan24: yeah the 54xx range is fairly chunky by modern standards but solid business laptops. I have a few minor annoyances (why do you need three different keycap/switch designs for the same keyboard and why did I get all three of them in a single laptop shipment?) but they're very easy to maintain and repair.
not sure which battery the unit would ship with, you get great battery life from the 63wh but ours came with 42wh originally

      • Where is the link for dell? Same price???

        • +2

It's $80 more after eBay plus discount.. Also from a different seller that offers only 3 months warranty for the refurbished product which could be a deal breaker for people. Battery life said to be between 70-100% left.
I decided not to order because of the warranty

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/235966324228?_skw=Dell+latitude+…

          • +1

@kaebomb: That's not too bad on account of the build quality and ram being replaceable. They should probably have a glass half empty way of referring to the battery health, "minimum of 70%" for instance.

  • +2

    In case you were wondering:
    Screen Size: 13.3 in

  • +1

I grabbed one to replace my very scruffy looking surface pro 7. Can't go wrong at that price.

    • -1

Will it not be tough, going from 2736 x 1824 pixel surface, to the 1080P Thinkpad?

They can have my scruffy old Surface Pro when they offer at least a QHD screen in the replacement.

      • I hardly use the laptop for anything except emails docs and sailing the high seas to put on external HD and I have an S10 ultra so I don't think it will matter.

  • +24

Condition: Refurbished Medium case scratches. Minor Screen Scratches

    No thanks…

    • +8

Not sure why you were downvoted - this is a legitimate comment and good to note for prospective buyers that missed this in the item description. Especially considering most (not all) of the recent deals have been Grade A refurbished units.

    • +5

Good pickup, The reviews for the listing seem positive, potentially just giving themselves some wriggle room. I'll just cover case scratches with some south park stickers because I'm a child. Screen scratches would be more annoying

      • +3

For $40 more after eBay plus discount, there's the A grade version of the same thing. Bit more reassurance regarding cosmetic/screen damage. Should just be minor case damage at the worst (with no mention of damage on the screen) compared to this B grade listing

  • Great find, in the same mindset to find a used laptop. Do you know any decent one for light gaming? Hoping to play Black Myth: Wukong.

    • +6

Personally don't think there is value is much worthwhile beyond really casual gaming for the used laptop market, reason these are so cheap is because they are bought in bulk for schools/ businesses, then decomissioned on a timetable when warranty ends or whatever. You'd probably be looking for an xps or thinkstation p series, or HP z book, if you wanted a dedicated GPU and ex-corp computer. Even then its a workstation GPU, and you would be approaching the price point of a budget gaming laptop anyway.

TLDR, just stalk the lenovo outlet, or ozbargain until a sub $1000 gaming laptop pops that seems like a reasonable deal.

      • +1

If you have an existing eGPU (like me) it has USB4 40Gb. Therefore you can extend & increase the graphics power

        • I'll have to look into this a bit more as a couple of years back all of the enclosures were really pricey

          • +2

@Dan24: They're a fad as many buy, sits, and gathers dust. Then sell it for peanuts. I bought a core X chroma eGPU with a RX580 GPU for $150. Yes, i got it for a bargain, but they're around. And like many neggers out there, it works really well. Not for every game but tbh not many cheapies (this laptop) like this don't have a TB4 port. Rare

            • +1

@vinni9284: Hopefully prices keep going down on the used market and docks from Ali become cheaper. Thats an awesome deal you got btw.

              • +1

@Dan24: Thanks mate. Good luck in your endeavours. Cheers

      • Would a Quadro K2100 be useful at all. Worked in IT most of my time, but never been a gamer so forgive my ignorance

        • Probably nothing from the K series for wukong since it wants a 1060 equivalent. The Quadro P2000 might have the grunt so if that p520c that I posted a while back has a coupon again, it could be worth a try.

    • +6

dont buy this or anything like it for games..

    • +2

it's expired now anyhow, but that game wants a gtx 1060 or rx 580 or higher gpu/video card.. that's way in excess (4-5 times the passmark score) of the Iris XE integrated this has. Discrete/dedicated gpu for sure. Although at least in desktop builds you could pick up something fairly affordable.
Google the gpu and word benchmark for at least how well things do in synthetic tests, and the same for processor. It's a reasonable idea on apples to apples, not perfect but a good basis.

Black Myth: Wukong Minimum System Requirements
      CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD 5 1600.
      Memory: 16GB RAM.
      GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) / AMD Radeon RX 580 (8GB)
      130GB storage

      benches:
      this cpu (i5 1145g7) abt 9700 passmarks
this gpu (iris xe) 2680 passmarks

      it wants:
cpu: 9200 or 12,200 passmarks (intel / AMD chips above)
so cpu probably ok for minumum..
GPU: abt 10,000 or 8850 passmarks
.. so wants waayyy more video performance.
And specifies dedicated video ram (which integrated/shared memory cards do not have), and needs more than half the system's storage…
.. and that's minimum system requirements not recommended (which will be higher)

It'd be light gaming by desktop gaming build standards, or modern entry level gaming laptop (rtx 3050 or higher I'd say)

      what's you budget?

      • Would still prefer a laptop. It will be 80% for my kids on school work.
I want it to be a gaming one, so I can have some me time after they gone to bed.
Unfortunately, miss does not allow ps5 or Xbox in the house hold.
        Budget 600

    • +1

@m2thez 320 after coupon for this seems pretty decent https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/267164902749?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

      • +1

Much appreciated, but I will prefer a laptop

  • +5

I just bought one of these off marketplace.. its ok. I thought it had backlit keys (some do some dont) feels a bit bulky. Im not to stoked with it tbh honest mainly coz i wanted backlit keys so suss that

    • Can you confirm if it has touchscreen?

      • +1

        mine did yes

  • +4

Bought this for the wife a couple months at 343. Definitely solid value. Note it is soldered ram but got it for the Thunderbolt 4 port. Means you can hook up an eGPU to make it a decent machine.

Mine came in very good condition, and Battery life is still solid. Only concern so far is it runs quite warm, so presumably will need to take apart and see if I'll need to redo the thermals.

    • +1

Good to know, the teardown showed the cooling solution was pretty minimal maybe a laptop cooling stand from Kmart or Ali could help

    • when you say it "runs warm", do you mean it feels warm, or the sensors report a high cpu temp? Blocked/bad fan could cause both, bad thermal connections the latter.

      • +1

Well compared to my work issued i7 acer laptop (same gen), this heats up immediately, which could be blocked fans, but assumed under refurbished it would've been cleaned.

  • +13

for anyone else wondering how much does it weigh and dimensions… 311.5 x 219 x 17.6 mm, 1.38 kg

  • Am i correct to assume this refurbished unit doesn't has backlit keyboard? Since lenovo website says it's optional upgrade

    • +3

Safest to assume it won't have one. I have asked the seller, will update description with odds of getting one when they get back to me.

      • +1

I ordered one before realising the backlit is optional. Hope seller has update soon

    • +1

Confirmed with seller, no backlit keyboard on these

  • +1

    ThinkPad my beloved

  • Msgd seller to ask about KB backlight. I will reply to this post with an update of still relevant.

Now I'm off to removing Chrome from my phone for deleting my typed post be free reloading the page all because I switched tabs!already made the switch on my laptop, but without workload Firefox is far more resource intensive than Chrome, and if made the switch to improve my browsing experience. Truth is I neeed more than a single screen, and maybe a desk to put them in.
    /rant

Any luck with dual projectors anyone? Haha

    • I yearn to see a few commas and full stops in your comment :P

Thank you, will be curious to see what they say!

    • No backlight, confirmed with seller

  • I suppose the question is whether you’d buy something like this now or wait until Windows 10 support ends. The second-hand market will likely be flooded with PCs and laptops then.

    • +1

It's not now? The place is a wasteland of sellers inventories growing and users having 2-3 laptop upgrades kicking around the house because private sales at pointless. An age where a single component an fetch you more than the combined machine as a whole. It's a mess and it's only getting worse

      • Will be pretty good when 6th gen Intel's hit the sub 100 mark, since there is an abundance of them, and no shortage of new laptops hitting the used market. Then Linux popularity can grow when everyone installs mint xfce

        • +1

Not once have I downloaded let alone installed this Mint you speak it. Let me guess…. Has a Windoze theme and feel..

Honestly I'll be amazed if they make it so low… The scrap price for a completely smoked laptop but intact screen is hovering around that price point. Because of how easy an LCD can rwpurposed into a 2nd screens has not only increased ecyclers margins, but lifted the
          cheap laptop bars

          • @parad0x: Linux Mint is an ideal choice for kids' computers. Unlike Windows, you don’t have to stress about frequent updates and laptop slow down or constant virus threats. I’ve been repurposing old laptops with Linux Mint for kids, and it works perfectly.

  • +3

Did the price go up? Mine is $429 before discount and $343.20 after discount.

    • +1

      Yes it has…

    • Base discount on the listing changed from 20% to 14%. Potentially better to get the A grade version now. But there were fewer in stock

      • +2

The A grade sold out last night. There were at least 8 but that was dropped by the seller to 4 then they all sold https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/167283438487

Hopefully there are other good deals around as these prices for the specs and warranty are great for students and families

  • +1

i was under the impression they have too many units to sell (well over 50 units can still be seen on ebay app) so it's a bit strange they increase the price to slowdown the sales.

    • I was gonna say the same… They were going to clear out their stock and now they won't. Maybe they were only expect a few to go in the discount period, not ~150-200 units haha

      • isn't the 20% discount absorbed by Ebay? rather than by the retailer?

        • There was a discount of 20% which stacked on top of the eBay code, they changed their discount to 14% to raise the price

          • @Dan24: edit - sorry i meant to say the "20% ebay code discount OFF20" is absorbed by Ebay hence the final price is attractive. Now that they jacked it up by reducing their 20% discount, it's not as exciting.

            • +1

@wiltonson: No stress, you were technically right. Just both discounts were initially 20% which was confusing.

  • +1

I picked up a refurb Dell Latitude 7300 Intel i5 8365U 1.60Ghz, 16GB RAM for $239 the other day. Was that a good deal? It was the cheapest one via Australian Computer Traders with 16GB Ram and Thunderbolt.

    • +2

Yeah that's not bad, depending on battery health, case and screen condition. 8th gen is getting a bit old now… Ultimately if you just want a cheap personal machine that you can dock into your work setup/ WFH setup going the cheapest w/ thunderbolt that you can find isn't a bad decision 8th gen and above for windows 11 support.

      • +2

Cool, thanks for the reassurance. Your 3 criteria weren't an issue for me as I use it with lid closed connected to 3 external displays :) You've described my use case to the letter - I unplug my work laptop and plug in my personal one at the end of the day, and I've outgrown gaming now.

    • +2

Depending on your budget and what you need.

for $80 more the Lenovo laptop is 2 years newer both in terms of processor and also the laptop itself and come with 1 year warranty plus is very portable.
      https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8265U-vs…

    • +1

      There's 3.D's in life…

      Dont
      Do
      DELL's

I hope this helps you avoid much pain and suffering!

  • +1

More of these kinda deals pls

  • Still worth it at $343?

    • Seller indicated they'd be back up for flash sale mid next week. ACT has a dynabook with less ram which will be close to the 220 mark if there is a refurb code later in the month.
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/186373807814?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

      • Might wait until then! Did they indicate date or time?
Do we have any idea what the battery life may actually be like? I'm thinking in the context of a day at uni web browsing and word processing only.

        • +2

The reviews I found indicated like 5-6 hours new, so I guess battery could get you 4 hours at 80% health. So listing reviews report battery health in the 90's

Takes a USB c charger so good synergy if you run an android, also has fast charge. If you're set on the ThinkPad, just monitor stock and make a decision if it looks like it'll sell out.

The just said mid week so Wednesday I think

          • @Dan24: Sounds like a plan - thanks for all that :)

  • Stylus included or no? Now 15% off (364.65).

    • Yes confirmed by seller. Pen included

    • still 20% off for plus member, it price went up, so it's $343 after 20$ off

  • Gen2 machine. I suppose they have gone to gen10 or 11 now

  • Just received mine.

    • Screen outer shell is clean.
    • minor scuff on bottom shell. Probably from docking
    • minor scuff on the side.
    • Small mark on the screen. Not obvious. Maybe 1-2cm. Not obvious once the screen is on.
    • Keyboard clean. Minor scuff on the top area, but not obvious unless you're in very bright environment.
    • 94% battery health
    • The USB-C Charging doesn't snap. Maybe I am just used to have it go all the way in. Maybe somebody can confirm here when they received theirs too.
    • The various usb-c chargers that I have go into the port fine with a little audible click and the charging light turns on. There is about 1mm of the charging tip exposed from the port like when I charge my Dell Latitude so it should be fine.

      • Yeah it's quite a very relax fitting. Other than that, laptop seems fine.

For some reason it arrived in high performance mode so the charging was fast and the laptop went hot lol. Battery report showed I think they were possibly working on this laptop December 2024. Not that it matters. Other than that, good purchase for $320.

        • Exactly the same with mine lol. This is definitely a quality buy!

  • Just got mine.
I ordered the A grade refurbished version which was on a different listing from the same seller so the screen has no imperfections while the outer casing only has a few very minor dinks.
Stylus is genuine Lenovo and works.
    Speakers work.
    Touchscreen works.
Fingerprint scanner works for Windows Hello login.
    Wifi and Bluetooth work.
There are two cameras. One webcam style with shutter and the second 'world-facing' style at the top of the keyboard. Camera can't seem to be detected when trying to set up Hello login, so for now it says the option is unavailable. Will look into it a bit more..

Battery is 43,490 mWh over 46,000 mWh meaning it is still at 94.5% so very happy about that. Booted up fine and temp feels a 'normal' amount of warmth like my work provided Dell Latitude.

I did receive a genuine Lenovo slim tip charger instead of a usb-c one so will be contacting them for a replacement as there are only usb-c ports on the device. It works with my Dell Thunderbolt dock.

FYI the listings from this seller say stock comes from Villawood NSW but mine actually came from Somerton VIC. Still very fast as it was via StarTrack.

    • Edit:

      Running Windows 11 Pro.
I believe Windows Hello face login doesn't work as it is not an infrared/IR camera. I think it has a MIPI camera instead, based on a bit of googling.
Please correct me if I am wrong..

      https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht513345-we-could…

    • That's good it came with a stylus as it wasn't mentioned and isn't a given for all models from what I saw, same for the world facing camera. Bit annoying about the charger.

      • Yeah the second camera is a nice bonus but it makes sense as the device is a 2-in-1. The screen flips around nicely to use it in tablet mode.

Should add that mine is the black model.

  • Got mine today.
    * Minor scuffs on the outside, otherwise very clean outer and keyboard
    * The tiniest hairline scratch along top left of screen - didn't see it until screen was off and I was looking at the reflection of my ceiling light and at an angle. Disappears when screen is on. Otherwise near perfect screen
    * The battery report says it's had 576 charge cycles and remaining capacity sits at 89.8%, which I'm happy with.

Overall feels like a B+ grade refurb, so I am very happy with the $319 price tag!

    • +2

That's wild, I think the HP is better personally as the build quality on their elite books is very decent. HPs Processor has more cores (6 vs 4) but less advanced lithography, so will probably be less efficient and run out of battery faster. Nano SIM is a plus and you've also got twice the SSD space, possibly a backlit keyboard. Weird that you have to make this decision. Graphics are pretty meh on the i5 1145g7 anyway.

    • +1

On second thought, you should probably get confirmation from them that they will honour warranty on the different unit

  • +1

mine just arrived. talk about bang for the buck!

  • +2

If other people are waiting to get the original cheaper price, check your offers, as the seller may have offered you the original deal price of $399 - which you can then use OFF20 to get it down to $319.20

  • What notebooks are in the sale with upgradeable RAM? I'd really feel more comfortable purchasing it this was available to me….
