  • Membership sales must be really low at Geelong…

    • +6

Third party payments are very high though.

Across the AFL, Geelong sit about 5th or 6th in terms of the number of members.
Geelong membership numbers have increased in 11 of the last 12 years (however I suspect this is similar for all AFL clubs as the range of memberships, prices, promotions etc becomes more diverse).

Never been an AFL team with either as much luck as Geelong have had signing "homesick" stars or, maybe, as much luck dodging scrutiny over suspect third party payments to attract such players.

        • +2

Luck will only take you so far - for 20 years now the Cats have built an enviable record built on great on and off-field leadership, an attractive lifestyle for players, a no-d#ickheads policy on their playing list and, unlike clubs like Carlton and Essendon, have never been found guilty of any dodgy dealings to gain an unfair advantage. On the basis of innocent until proven guilty, leave your jealous smears to the side and at least have the humility to appreciate a club that continues to unearth gems and attract established talent, despite our poor draft hand. May I ask what club you support?

            @Frugal Sharkey: Good write-up mate!

            Go Cats!

@Frugal Sharkey: Yes I know, they've been run well. I'm partly trolling. Still, incredibly lucky and well looked after by the AFL, like each of the big clubs.

            • @The Almighty Dollar: Carlton is one of those big clubs -

Of the nine coaches who have sat in the hot seat since 2000, six were sacked and paid out – Carlton’s version of honouring coaches’ contracts. Three – Pagan (2007), Malthouse (2015) and Bolton (2019) – were shoved mid-season. Brett Ratten was informed he was finished after a loss to Gold Coast in the penultimate game of 2012.

In that period, Geelong have employed two senior coaches, Mark Thompson and Chris Scott. The Cats have played in an astonishing 14 preliminary finals over 21 seasons, winning four flags. They have not sacked a senior coach since 1988 (John Devine).

    (profanity) Geelong!

  • Why do I keep getting unexpected error while processing

    • Any time I've had problems with membership or sign up, a call to the membership team quickly fixed the issue. If it's still broken for you tomorrow, you could give them a call.

  • Now the AFL are onto their 3rd Party Payments… They have to make the $$$ up somewhere…

  • Someone has to fund rezoning all those farms to residential estates…

Can you use all 3 tickets in 1 game? Rather than go to 3 games?

  • I'm looking for the bit which says membership payments are to be provided to the president or coach in brown paper bags
