Snomd is a crazy name for a brand.

    Dmons sounds better.

In fact boobytrap spelled backwards is partyboob!

  • Anyone has experience with this? Are they reliable?

    • There's a reason why hospitals use under-the-armpit thermometers.

      • Did you mean mercury thermometers? We use tympanic nowadays

    Measurement Range:
    Body mode: 32°C ~ 42.9°C (89.6°F ~ 109.2°F)
    Surface temp mode: 0°C ~ 60°C (32°F ~ 140°F)
    Room mode: 0°C ~ 40°C (32°F ~ 104°F)
    Precision:
    32.0°C ~ 34.9°C (89.6°F ~ 94.8°F) ±0.3°C(±0.6°F)
    35.0°C ~ 42.0°C (95°F ~ 107.6°F) ±0.2°C(±0.4°F)
    42.1°C ~ 42.9°C (107.8°F ~ 109.2°F) ±0.3°C(±0.6°F)

So can't use it for cooking.

I’d pass if primary use case is checking temp of your baby/child.

We bought a similar model but always reported the temp as lower than the actual thus risking a false-negative result.

In the end we bought a Braun in-ear model which is a lot more accurate.

    • How did you figure out it was reporting lower than actual?

      • We suspected the forehead thermometer was underreporting, as it consistently measured no higher than 36.5°C

We then bought the Bosch which confirmed the underreporting.

        • What if the Bosch is overreporting?

I thought you got a Braun though.

    • Since Braun was quite expensive, I took chance with MitDir 20M from amazon. It has a forehead and Ear-in version, with latter being more reliable. Quite happy with it

      • +1

Agreed that the Bosch is more expensive but didn’t want to take the risk of a false-negative with our newborn.

        • *Braun. You keep calling it Bosch.

      • Hi there @the1doood do you looking at the MitDir too - do you know what is the difference between the models 20A, 20B, 20D and 20M?

        • +1

My understanding is they are incremental versions with 20M being the best sensor.

    • +1

Paramedic showed us his braun and said it's same as over the counter and that was good enough for me. Arm pit thing was slow and less accurate due to baby movement anyway.

    • I’d pass if primary use case is checking temp of your baby/child.

Im old school. Place hand on face or head to measure temp. Always works for me

  • Showing as $20, the code isn't working. Looks like its over?

These are unreliable for checking body temperature. The reason is because the measurement mainly reflects the surface skin temperature, which can vary a lot with environmental temperature and with circulation. A similar but better alternative is a temporal artery thermometer, which also measures temperature from the skin, but you have to hold it in contact and it measures only a small spot at a time, the rationale being that the temperature of the skin right above the temporal artery reflects your body temperature (so you swipe it around, and it uses the highest reading as the measurement). These non-contact ones measure too large a patch of skin to be able to do that.
