On sale is the successor to the SOYO M2 Plus 2 featuring several upgrades. It comes with the newer Intel N150 CPU, two USB-C ports with video output and Power Delivery input that allows the mini PC to be powered via USB-C instead of the DC jack, as well as both WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. These low power Intel mini PCs are an excellent choice for use as a media centre PC, especially when using software like Plex where the codec and decoding support really shines with the N150.

Featuring Windows 11 Pro, an Intel N150 4 core, 4 thread CPU, Intel UHD Graphics, 16GB DDR4 SODIMM RAM, 512GB M.2 SSD (M.2 2280 NVMe + 2242 slots), 2x USB-C with video out & 12V PD input, 2x HDMI ports w/ 4K@60Hz support, 3x USB 3.1 5Gbps ports, 1x USB 2.0 port, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 3.5mm audio jack and fan cooling. You'll find that the BIOS is very customisable too.

  • Missed the shopback 32% cashback a few days ago. Now it is 28%, which is still quite good, but any chance it will go higher or any chance there will be a higher Westpac bonus than the current 2%? 😂😂

    • +1

That's for new aliexp users tho. Only 15% for non new users

  • can this run proxmox?

  • How can we be sure it can be powered over USB-C? The post says "Power Delivery input that allows the mini PC to be powered via USB-C instead of the DC jack" but I can't see any confirmation of that on the linked page.

    • YouTube video linked. In that one or his benchmark one he's made a comment that it does.

    • +1

googling for the answer helps. Answered in the affirmative in this video review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiyJ1W_9ClY
or just try it when you have one. My Chuwi Larkbox X 2023 n100 mini PC does not mention anywhere it supports usb c power, but that's how I've been using it for the past year.. I think I used the barrel jack once.

    • Customer review comments in this deal also indicated one of the USB-C port supports USB-PD to power the device. However, one of those comments indicated:

There are two Type-C, one power and one monitor output.

Does that imply you cannot have a single cable that powers the PC and also provides display output? i.e. Even if you have a USB-C monitor, you can't use single cable to power it, provide display and use the USB downstream ports on the monitor?

  • Temporarily out of stock?

    • It's been out of stock since yesterday afternoon.

      • No one clicked the Report button ….

        • I checked the item before this post was created … I missed it ㅜㅜ

      • I looked at it a couple of hours ago and it was in stock, but OOS now. Oh, and I bought the "Last one" back on Monday, which is why I didn't post it 😔. Keep an eye on it, they may restock.

    • noooooooooo I wanted one

      • Relax man. They come on sale every few weeks.

  • I was able to order one for the price listed in this deal this morning.

Fingers crossed it will ship and also TopCashback as well.

  • While out of stock, I was noticing " This product can't be shipped to your address." Is that just something that pops up for out of stock products?

  • There are various third party sellers of this M4 Pro on AliExpress for various prices higher than this link. They all seem to have the AliExpress guarantee of refund for non-delivery. But are there risks with buying from some of these 'non-official' resellers?

    • " This product can't be shipped to your address."

Yeah this means it's out of stock. They may add further stock later.

But are there risks with buying from some of these 'non-official' resellers?

      What are the store names?

  • In stock again.

  • It seems to be back in stock. Just bought one. Checkout said '1 left'. But item still seems available.

  • This vs Nvidia Shield Pro as a Plex client? (not server). Looking for something to plug into a new tv.

    • why not download the plex client for the tv and run the app on the tv?

cons of mini PC for video client - no dolby vision support, no native HDMI CEC (can be worked around with usb/HDMI dongle), may not have apps for various legal streaming services for 4K video output.
pros of mini PC for video client - KODI etc. run super snappy, can run video upscaler on the mini pc if you don't want the TV handling upscaling, can run emulators up to PS2/WiiU/Gamecube x2 resolution.

  • Ordered one for AU$175.87 (didn't bother to change to USD as I don't have a card without international fee).

  • Why i can’t see the item via searching exactly the same words on aliexpress? I cannot use my shopback by clicking on go to deal button via ozbargain.

    • +1

AliExpress search engine is a bit weird. Easy solution is click on the above deal link to get to the Ali item, add it to your cart, then click thru from Shopback or wherever, go to cart and either buy it there, or click on it to go to the item page and buy it there.

    • +1

I add to the cart before going through cashback. Otherwise copy and paste the SKU from the url into the search bar

  • hey can I run a minecraft server on this for a few guests comfortably?

  • +1

Wow. Why would someone get a Pi package over this complete package and even more do if they didn't intend to use Win11?

    • +1

      Maybe they need the pins.

    • Smaller footprint, lower power, definitely the pins

  • Is this good to get for just doing office work like using Microsoft apps and browsing?

How is this so cheap with windows 11 pro?

I'm thinking of getting this for the wife since she's using a NUC I got 5 years ago.

    • as I've posted multiple times.. I've been using an n100 based mini PC for over a year for daily web browsing, 1440p youtube video watching, email, torrenting, usenet and o365 app usage instead of my gaming desktop which uses something like 20x the wattage. We use NUCs at work but are testing N100 mini PCs as replacements.

      • +1

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry didn't see your replies earlier.

  • I have a DS920+ with my Plex server and media. Would separating the Plex server onto a machine like this improve my experience or not worth the money?

    • why you dislike your currect plex experience? if none then nothing to improve

    • It would improve the Plex experience for sure, but whether that's worth the price is up to you. It can do other things that your Synology can't do and that might add to the value proposition too.

      • What else can it do?

        • +2

dockers (arrs suite), VM, email server, etc etc

          • @McMaferMur: I'm running DSM 7.2 with an emulated Synology SA6400m with SHR, HEVC put back into the synology ecosystem (after they removed it) and other stuff.. with Jellyfin video streaming, Jeelyseer video request system, the arr's suite and a few other dockers (16GB RAM total, generally 8GB in use). At some stage I'll set up tailscale vpn and maybe nginx reverse proxy for ease of use/better security. I could probably run opnsense firewall and Home Assistant on the NAS (which has an intel n5095 CPU - with less processor power than an intel n100) as CPU usage is generally less than 10%

  • DDR5 would have been a killer to get at this price. There are reviews of the older N100 with DDR5 beating N150's with DDR4. (At least in benchmarks, not so sure in real use if it makes any difference).

    • +2

I don't think people are using these PCs to be running stuff at the absolute limits.

Most folks get this to run low powered applications and aim to keep the power usage of the system to as low as possible.

I know I am going to be using this to learn how to utilise Proxmox, Docker and Jellyfin. Trying to migrate away from paid software.

    • look at the benchmarks, it's literally down to single digit differences with geekbench in most cases. The point of getting a mini PC like these are to do low processor tasks like email, web browseing, youtube playback, maybe some coding etc. If you need more CPU power for rendering, audio DSP emulation etc. then get a mini PC based on the AMD CPUs as they have a much higher processor and GPU capability (and about 2x-5X the cost as well).

  • Has anyone seen anything cheap like this with similar specs but 4 network ports? Bonus points for 2.5GbE

    • +2

Searching for "firewall mini PC" on AliExpress gives you plenty of results with the Topton/Kingnovy ones popular. You can get the Intel N100 and other variants with four Intel LAN ports. If you want something smaller there's these kind of small Mini PCs with 4 LAN too, but they're double the price.

      • I don't understand why people will want to buy a $150 mini pc to be a firewall? Don't firewalls come on Routers supplied by your ISP? Also a 2nd Firewall on your PC? Am I missing something here?

        • +1

ISP routers are usually basic and the 'firewall' functionality is mostly the same, while Windows Firewall protects individual PCs at the software level. The advantage of having a dedicated firewall appliance is that you're protecting the whole network and that gives you greater visibility and control. Some people like to run pfSense or PiHole.

  • “Item not deliverable to selected address”

  • These were back in stock for me, just ordered

  • +1

Got mine today. China shipping is getting better.

  • +1

I got mine on Friday. Came with a Euro 3A power pack, with a crappy USA adapter. I've ordered a 4A AU power pack, so I keep both usb-c ports available

  • Mine doesn't power on from the same USB-C power/data/video cable my laptop happily uses, using either USB-C port. Any tips? I will get an adaptor so I can test if the normal power cable works.

  • +1

This is frustrating - followed recommendations to do a clean OS install and now lots of devices are not recognised by Windows due to missing drivers, including Audio and WiFi devices. Does anyone have a back up of all default drivers they could share?

  • +1

My SOYO PC came in today. Did a clean install of Win11 and now barely any of the drivers are installed. Does anyone have this issue and if you can know where the drivers can be downloaded from?

  • As an update, I found my Dell WD19TB dock doesn't seem to offer 12v over USB-C, so it can't power the M4 Pro. If I power it separately (either from the supplied barrel adaptor, or a USB-C charger that does do 12V), the other USB-C does provide video fine.

  • Has anyone been able to install Ubuntu LTS 24.04 and have the WiFi and Bluetooth drivers work successfully? Seems like the Realtek drivers in this version are dodgy.

Alternatively what have people done in terms sof setting up a Jellyfin server with this unit?

Looking like I will have to go back to Windows and somehow find all the drivers again. 🥹

  • If anyone has a Plex server working on this device could you please tell me your set up.
I reinstalled windows, got all the drivers through CCleaner and Intel Support Assistant. System randomly crashes (sometimes BSOD, sometimes black screen) from anywhere between a few minutes after boot to maybe 30 minutes.
All I have installed is CCleaner, Nord VPN, QBitorrent and Plex.

I tried several Linux distros too without much luck. Crashing/freezing, lag, no sound, no WiFi or BT.

    Any help much appreciated. 🙏

    • try linux mint, once installed go to the software updater and install a newer Kernel than 6.8 (6.11 seems to be the working kernel for Intel n100 igpu and proxmox at least - because the newer kernel recognises the n150 cpu correctly). I don't have this specific mini PC - as requested multiple times, what is the wifi module please - is it RTL8821CE?

also ubuntu LTS now supports up to linux kernel 6.14 - https://9to5linux.com/you-can-now-install-linux-kernel-6-14-…

      • Thanks,

I tried Ubuntu with kernal 6.14 which did not work. Perhaps could try LM again with 6.11 kernal. Last time audio did not work and was lagging.

        Wifi is Realtek 8852BE.

Windows is giving the following error BSOD.
        VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE
        igdkmdn64.sys

Seems like an Intel driver problem.
Any ideas which one works with the machine and the Intel Update tool with the current version appears to have broken things.

        • +1

at absolute worst, if you really need wifi and bluetooth maybe it's worth the $20-30 and just buy a replacement intel wifi card with known driver support? when I originally bought my larkbox x 2023 intel n100 mini pc there was poor support for the intel AX201 wifi card, but it did get better eventually (I don't use wifi and barely use the bluetooth so it wasn't so much an issue for me).

  • I have done clean install of Windows and no matter what I try with different intel graphics drivers I get BSOD. Happens randomly, not on start up.

    Error is CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated. 🙏

Wondering if 24H2 update is the problem?
Can anyone else confirm if they are okay on 23H2

  • My one of these won't recover after power loss… Anyone else in the same boat? Makes it pretty useless as a proxmox host for me

    • +1

I saw an article covering this issue for one of the other Soyo minipc models, the solution was a bios setting. Try google to find the article, then see if that solution works?

Edit: there’s a discussion on it in the comments section of https://goughlui.com/2024/12/22/review-soyo-mini-pc-m2-plus2…

      • Thanks for the link, I'll do some testing

        • Please report back how you went. I want to eventually set mine up as a server

  • So i got one of these… Did a clean install, used SDIO to install all the drivers. Seems ok, but one annoying problem is it seems to power off instead of sleep? Anyone else face anything similar? It's on USB-C PD for power, not sure if that makes a difference.

  • I formatted my installation of Windows 11 and now I can't find the drivers for the audio device, amongst other things. Can any one provide a link or copy to the drivers? Installed the latest Intel chipset drivers and Realtek drivers, and still can't get audio working from the headphone jack.
