Howdy
It's been a while since we have done a surface deal. I've matched some AMD Surface Laptops with some docking stations and done a cracker price on them.
All products are A Grade with Min 80% battery.

It's very easy to justify since 8GB is still sufficient for light duty work and would still meet the needs for a lot of users.
Not for this much money…
I agree, but the Surface range has always had premium pricing, if you're just comparing specs there have always been better value options.
@howcan: Fair enough, I'm forgetting that most manufacturers put crap tier displays in their laptops.
Incorrect. You're probably comparing similar spec heavy POS with rubbish quality screens from Dell, ASUS or the like.
Is the ram upgradable by any chance
No.
I disagree - $180 Less plus 16GB Ram, Thunderbolt Port, USB C Charging, Touch Screen

And half the pixels on the Lenovo. Not at all comparable there.
My laptop is mostly used as a thin client - either web browser or remote desktop of some sort. So I could manage with 8GB, but 1080p for work with multiple windows would be painful.
Any deals on the4 Surface Pro 7? https://www.australiancomputertraders.com.au/microsoft-surfa…
Sandstone metal or platinum alcantara?
Shows pictures for both, but no mention of which one is actually on offer.
Hope it's metal
Spec seems to be metal one though
Hey colours may be mixed. I am fairly sure they are silver though.
Surface Laptop 4 SSD is upgradable:

Not the most comparable but there's this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/145651991963 $506
Acer Swift 3 S 14" Ryzen 5 8GB 512GB SSD Laptop Computer NX.AB1SA.002
Google says it's a 5500U
do you get warranty? Is the screen without any scratches?
I bought 2 Grade A laptops from them, and both of them have issues straight out of the box.
To share an alternate view. I have a Surface Pro tablet which had a battery charging issue. Called them and within 10 minutes had a return label. Dropped it off to AusPost and shared the receipt. They shipped a replacement via Express Post and had it the next day. Can't complain about that service.
If the product is faulty, it should not be categorized as Grade A. This experience has been disappointing, and I will not be purchasing from them again.
I have to chime in to say I've bought half a dozen PCs from them and I've never had any issues.
I think used/second hand tablet/laptops are always a gamble as they get more hands on abuse from previous owners.
Yeah I've bought a lot of PC's and monitors from them. They're great.
These are old used laptops, there will always be a percentage with issues, even if they've been "refurbished".
What matters is that the vendor will swap your unit with a minimum of hassle.
As others have said if you have any issues you can reach out to customer support and they will organise anything for you.
There QA is terrible but their returns service is very good.
My dell had a soggy left mouse button which they quickly and without fuss fixed.
But would be nice if they actually checked the computers before sending to customers.
I've had the surface 4 laptop with the Core i5 and that overheated and slowed down. Most annoying laptop ever.
Ryzen has gotten better, but still they may not be as well suited for laptops.
I've got the AMD Surface 4 Laptop and that has been fine
I've had the surface 4 laptop with the Core i5
I've got one and it runs fine…
I got one last month.had a similar problem. Opened up the shell. Put on some new thermal paste. The fans haven't spun up since. It's a relatively old laptop and then thermal paste was crusty.
Use an ifixit guide, it was pretty straightforward.
These things overheat like crazy nevertheless great price
Anyone running Linux on one of these?
Tried Linux on my Surface Laptop 1, some drivers didn't work, check it at https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface/wiki/Supporte…
My advice, don't do that on a Surface
As a general rule, if you want linux, buy something made by a company that actively supports linux on their machines, such as Dell.
Microsoft is no longer actively hostile to Linux though.
And with WSL it is easy to run Linux utilities under Windows, and even full GUI apps.
Yeah. I’ve been looking at Starlabs, Framework and the other one I can’t remember the name of. I won’t be buying anything Microsoft, don’t want to give them my money. But half interested in a second hand cheapie.
I ran a distro on my SP2 from the microSD card, worked alright but had driver issues and had to hold down vol- from memory on startup to get it to show the boot menu.
I don't recommend a used Surface Laptop 4 if it has the fabric suede palm rests, they get really dirty and gross. I've seen some at Harvey Norman and it's another one of Microsoft's worst ideas. If it's the metal version then maybe you could consider one. I purchased the 16GB 256GB metal version in late 2022 and upgraded the SSD. I still use it occasionally.
Thanks, snapped one up to use for kids homework
Although cheap, hard to justify 8GB ram in 2025
