  • what makes these cast iron pots better than others? any special technology in them?

    • i also wonder why they are so expensive!!!!!!!
i spent hundreds on headphones, thousands on cameras/lens, but i really dont see the point to spend $100 on these "Cast Iron Round Casserole"

Not sure how others are made. You're paying for the brand / reputation, made in France, quality of the cast iron, quality of the enamel, QA/QC and limited lifetime warranty. Compared to regular cast iron the enamelled surface is suppose to make it easier to clean and doesn't require you to season the cast iron. It does stain though. My other enamelled cast iron cookware is a Staub grill pan and I would expect the LC to be similar in quality and last a lifetime.

      • Staub and LC are both good, and some prefer one over the other.
If heard about no knead bread, these are prefect and aldi one's will crack or mine did.
The heat retaining on these are brilliant, and perfect for most slow cooked food ie pork or lamb shoulder.

These require bit of love when cleaning.

    • they are much better at retaining heat which is probably most noticable when cooking dishes that take a long time over fire

  • Last time I tried to buy these from amazon from this deal- http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/62432

but they canceled the order because they "couldn't source this item". But a week or two later they had the exact same item back on amazon. I sent amazon an email asking if I could order them for the same price but they replied "When we contacted the supplier for an update they informed us that they won't be able to source this item. Unfortunately, we are unable to match the price of this item as this item is listed from another supplier at the price of XXXX".

    • Wow. That was a great price if you managed to get one.

Hopefully they'll ship considering they upped the shipping price since that deal.

  • These were 50% off at David Jones last week during the sales bringing them down to roughly the same price, however this price is the usual discount throughout the year.

I find the oval casserole dishes much more versatile then the round ones for ovens, etc and yes they are the bees knees of casserole french ovens - beware of cheaper imitations with similar brand names!

I bought a 4.5 lt cast iron casserole from kmart about 6 months ago for $20 (since gone up to $25) while it is smaller than the above… it is the best Pot I own… It gets a hammering on top of the stove and in the oven…. cleans up easily and has not discoloured at all..

    • Me too! I bought a cast iron casserole dish, baking dish and fry pan from Kmart for $20 each nearly ten years ago and they're still my most favourite things to cook with. The only fault is that one tiny bit of enamel has chipped on the rim of the casserole dish but the cooking surface is still flawless. I never take any special care with them at all.
