If you have a folding bike or are willing to take your wheels off, you can also request a regular taxi instead of a maxi-cab to reduce waiting on the side of the road or to stretch your dollar further if you're right on the limit of the $50 callout. I've done this with my road bike before when they couldn't find a maxi-cab in the area. Obviously if your bike is filthy it's up to the taxi driver if they're willing to take you.

Some additional advice, you call through to the regular RACV roadside assistance call centre for this service, and they're usually used to dealing with car drivers calling up. So when they ask for your reason, you should simply give one of the above approved reasons as your answer. One of my mates had a simple spill and fell over due to slippery road and answered that he had "an accident" and the lady completely shutdown the conversation saying that he had to deal with insurance when all he wanted was a lift home. Obviously it varies depending on the call operator you get, but make it easy for yourself and never give "accident" as your response, it's just not worth the hassle.

    • Awesome advice. Thanks 👍🏼

    Does this include e-bikes ?

So I can call them if I'm too fat and lazy to ride up a hill? Asking for a friend.

    • Theyll ban you if you do it everyday

With RACV, having more than 1 policy gives you some sort of discount. Does the RACV Bike Assist count as a policy and give me discount if I take out a car insurance policy with them in the future?

    • +2

Yes, got it applied last time

    • It’s $10!

      • +4

I think he meant it's best to take up this policy and get a bigger discount on car/home etc

        • Yes this is what i meant. Hoping to get a bigger discount on car insurance than the $10 I pay for bike assist.

Any way I can use it to extend the existing plan?

    • It can overlap.

Just sign up using the link above.

  • You'd be like just give us a lift mate far out

If it's anything like their car insurance expect a hike in the second year.

    • Yes an outrageous increase of 50% to….$15

  • Just used this a few days ago when I got into a pretty sizeable crash + flat tire. Person on the phone said a trip up to $60 despite the site saying $50 so take that as you will. I also got a station wagon taxi and the trip would have been ~$35-40 for 10km in north western suburbs according to the taxi driver.

    • So they covered a crash, roadside doesnt usually cover crashes for cars as they say its on comp insurance interesting they are covering bikes

    No NSW 🥺

  • Just signed up. What’s stopping me from abusing the free taxi, as long as I have a bike with me? lol

      Your conscience.

I already had a similar intrusive thought: "Someone stole my bike and I can't get home." No bike needed! (Not sure theft is covered, assume not).

      • Common bike emergencies we can help with:
        Punctured or flat tyre
Too tired to ride, lost or dehydrated
        Severe weather
        Injury preventing you from riding
        Broken spoke or other breakdown

It seems that theft is not covered.

        • Theft is covered by your theft policy for your bike. This has an excess

I've used it like that in the past. The taxi driver doesn't care if you have a bike with you or not

  • Thought this was for motorcycles, bummer :(

  • anything like this in WA? nice service, nicer price…

  • e-scooters included?

    • no

      • We know every cyclist is different, so we cover a range of bike types, including:

        mountain bikes
        road bikes
        hybrid bikes
        folding bikes
        speed bikes
        cargo bikes
        touring bikes
        e-bikes or electric bikes.

    • You can join Wheelchair and Scooter Assist or Total Care, which includes Caravan and Trailer Assistance, Bike Assist, and Wheelchair and Scooter Assist.

Wonder if they'd notice or cared if it was myself and my kid taking the taxi home, because kid got too tired to cycle home…

    • +1

That's why these sorts of services aren't around for long, always someone who wants to take the piss.

  • Stacks with my silver membership. $9. Winning!

  • +2

I took this up recently (at this price) mainly to be eligible for the cashback on this electricity plan but I also bike a lot so it might be of use.

  • FYI for South Australians: looks like similar coverage is already included with RAA Membership:

    Bicycle road service
When a breakdown or puncture interrupts your ride, we'll do our best to get you rolling again. If repairs can't be carried out at the roadside, we'll arrange for a taxi to take you and your bike to a safe location or place of repair (up to $55 a year).

  • That's exactly what im looking for, thanks for sharing l, just bought it for $9.5

  • So let me get this right. For $10 you get eight call-outs a year, which equals as much as $400 in free taxis home. Is there anything stopping a person who hasn't suffered an issue but who just wants to get home for free, even somebody who doesn't own a bicycle, from getting this membership for the free trips home a year?

    • I believe you'll need a bike by your side when you get picked up. Otherwise, you can't say you're tired from a bike ride without a bike itself.

      • +2

Ive used this for a few times, the taxi company doesn't care/doesn't check.

They even mistakenly sent a non-maxi taxi in the past.

  • +1

This would be a good policy to have in the back pocket to keep your years active if you shop around your bigger policies.

    • +1

Yes, saving my Silver Status. All for $9.00

  • Can i call out for my kids bike if they need it even though the policy is in my name.

  • Can I use this membership to get discounted EV charging via Charge Fox?

  • I’m on a bike ride now, freezing! Haha. Good to know I have cover from the last deal if I get a puncture
