  • Cheapest on Static ice is $616.00

    http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=R500A-SX362…

Hope it isn't a mistake in pricing.

  • WOW purchased one and used paypal, but screen kept freezing kept stopping and starting, did not click the $2.99 insurance the second time around, hope that will not be a problem? Sometimes it pays to sit up late at the computer, will check back tomorrow to see the outcome, guess paypal will refund if necessary.

    • +5

Did you accidently add the Symantec Norton Internet Security option for $18 the first time?? Even paypal is smart enough not to process a transaction that includes Norton products.

  • +3

Sold out. Good luck to those who ordered 1. Maybe try to call if it is not a pricing error or Gerry bought them all?

  • got one by bank transfer, now what? wait untill we see if its a price error?

  • Product sold out, unavailable or discontinued.
    Jasus! Shouldn't be hesitate…. even if it's pinky….

  • Sold out! Just as I bought one. PHEW! Looks up Thank you God

Edit: Still think it might be a pricing error though.

  • Just got one… Lets see if it gets delivered….

  • +1

Now the waiting begins like my WDTV cash back…

  • Product sold out, unavailable or discontinued

  • Looks like the page has been pulled down now. Hopefully a centrecom rep will let us know if the deal was legit or when we can all get a refund…

  • Almost 1400 clicks within an hour.

  • sold out … ):

    • -1

      5m? You snooze you lose

    • Why not have virtual machines ready to go?

  • +2

I still think this is really a pricing error, hope they won't do a hardly normal, good luck to all who bought one

  • +2

So when every ones Asus arrives wanna go around to the Blue Oyster Bar for a late night LAN Partee?

    • +8

No I want to go and show it to Gerry Harvey

      • He can come to.

    • +1

I love how 20 years on the blue oyster is still the proverbial gay bar

  • Now it's been removed.

  • sold out……fcxx

  • +3

Will forgo it. Dont want to get Harvey Normaned so soon again.

    • +1

      feel your pain.

  • I learnt from the asus tablet not to believe in a good deal, thanks Gerry.

    • Who spells Jerry with a G anyway.

      • Is that because Jerry is more popular from the Tom and Jerry cartoon?

  • Bought one and paid by Paypal. Order Status: Awaiting Confirmation (PayPal)
Although I was not planning to buy any laptop but couldn't resist to get a proper Laptop for a tablet price!

    It's OZBargained!!

  • Missed out again. If this is a pricing error, Gerry Harvey will be thanking Centrecom :) HN and Centrecom are not affiliates right?

  • Website states: Product sold out, unavailable or discontinued.

  • wait for other colors of this model

  • Its been removed, so what does that tell you? Price error or did too many people buy too many?
So for those who ordered one are you guys still getting it?

  • +1

Company learned from Harvey Norman ! Easy money as collecting 1 million cash ( 3000 sales if same as havey did)put in the bank for 2 month will make them easy $ 10000, better than sell laptops.

  • +1

Can someone give me a quick crash course on what happened with Harvey Norman? I was on holiday at the time so have no clue what the in house joke is lol

    • +1

Front page hot topic. Pricing error for a Asus Windows tablet @HN. Orders dishounered and Gerry Harvey said, it was the work of professionals.

      • i bought 10 x Asus tablets from HN. still waiting for my refund :(

        • +11

What an amateur, I bought over 9000!

        • +1

why would you possibly want to buy 10? I'm almost glad you didn't get any for being so greedy. 2-3 I can sort of understand, but TEN!!!

        • Mr Gerry wasn't wrong after all when he mentioned about the professional buyers like you ( O)

        • +3

@Kluger, Gerry wasn't entirely wrong but some of us just felt uncomfortable when a robber criticised the act of a thief.

        • @cwongtech Is that you Gerry?

  • +2

Centrecom doesn't looks any better than HN according to Leonheart1's link. Hope it was not taken over and ultimately controlled by Gerry.

  • Oh I see…

  • +1

finger crossed, just transferred $301 in their account.

    • its bloody painful to get neg after money transfer.

      • There a + from me, feel better now? Cross your toes as well if you think it works.

  • I decided to give it a miss due to the recent Amazon Prime Optimus and HN Asus tablet incidents.

  • +1

Well after reading the ridiculously long 20 page HN incident I think this will be another mistake.
I didnt order one because I wasnt home :( if I was I probably would have even though I already have 2 laptops for myself. Hope you guys do get it, good luck

  • +5

The true test will be if this is a pricing error, as some expect, how it will be handled. They're already one step ahead of HN … offer pulled from their website within a hour or so if being posted on here.

Hopefully if it is a stuff-up, monies will be refunded ASAP (if they have even been charged yet), and you'll actually be informed of the situation personally by someone at the company, and not by a rep on here, or by other comments on, say, a Facebook page.

  • it does not feel good now. They are selling almost the same laptop for $599…. Not much difference
    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/r500a-sx061p-asus-r500a-…

    • +5

But it's not pink. Likely a pricing error with the remote chance of shifting stock that just ain't selling due to colour.

    • +2

if it's clearance due to the pink power ranger curse then you guys are in luck

but seriously… are some of you guys gonna be carrying these around in public?!

      • a few bucks worth of black vinyl will fix it

however i'm 100% sure this is a pricing error since its under the wholesaler price… they wouldnt buy a laptop for $400 wholesale to sell at $299!

        • They would if they weren't selling. There is no point in having stock that won't sell it just ties up your capital and stops you from making money on it. Good deals generally happen after boxing day/new year when retailers need to bring in new stock that people will actually buy. I'll bet $50 that this is a genuine deal, I can't see centrecom pulling a Gerry when so much of their business is online and they realise it. They are Professionals :P

        • yeah but they coulda easily sold just as many at $399

      • What's wrong with it?
It's definitely looked better than those kids who wear bum showing jeans on the street.

      • Image amongst peers is paramount ! (for some)

      • What is wrong with the colour? I had a hot pink phone once and it helped me to meet many girls as they wanted to ask about my phone.

  • +4

Could go either way due to colour. I bought an i3 from them recently for $399, but in all fairness it wasn't pink.

Worth taking a gamble on as somewhat believable due to the curse of pink hardware. Don't get too pissed if they don't honor it and it turns out to be a 599 instead of 299. Petty common error when using a numpad.

Hope it doesn't cause grief either way.

  • Though the fact that they took the deal of in 1 hour tells me it was definitely a pricing error

  • another pricing error saga will be start in here :)

  • +4

If nothing else, at least this deal is going to give me a fantastic read tomorrow morning.

    • +3

Save it for Monday when back at work. Then you get paid to be entertained as well.

  • This 'deal' was posted at midnight yet was totally ozbargained within an hour? Do you people EVER sleep?

    • ozbargainer never sleep, only some are at work and miss out like me

      • +7

sleep is for the weak….a bargain waits for noone… and the aussie post man never rings twice…..he leaves a card asking for pick up

        • +10

the aussie post man never rings twice

Nowadays they don't even ring once. :(

        • +1

I don't think mine rings once, and he has card prefilled with the date and time so he can leave one and go, I caught him a couple of times

        • +1

Its so he doesn't have to carry over 9000 items in one go. They make you walk up to the local post office instead :P

        • +1

Yeah I think this is where they got the idea for the Parcel Lockers from. Why bother even sending out posties with cards. Waste of postie wages. Just SMS the customer and have them pick up from the PO.

But seriously I'd really prefer self-pickup from many many more locations. I'm surprised some big courier company hasn't struck a deal with shopping centres to set up banks of self-service parcel lockers. After all some people seem to spend half their day at shopping centres and they have their car with them, etc.

        • I don't think mine rings once, and he has card prefilled with the date and time so he can leave one and go

Mine was like this until I eventually caught up with him one day and told him off. Ever since he's been leaving any packages we receive under the side car port out of street view - I didn't even need to ask.

        • Had any missing packages lately? =P

        • Its so he doesn't have to carry over 9000 items in one go. They make you walk up to the local post office instead :P

All very well, but given that my local post office is nearly 20k's away, it's NOT amusing when he doesn't even attempt delivery at 10.30 am, and I then have to wait until 4.30 to pick it up.

      • Well, the professionals never sleep… :)

  • Why was I not awake 7 hours ago??? devastated!!!

  • Me Too

  • +2

    GERRY IS BACK!!! LOL

  • +1

I also ordered one. was there any tick for accepting terms and condition ?

Even if it is a pricing error , it should be mentioned in the terms and condition.

  • Spoke to one of the sales rep in store via phone and he reckon this was a pricing error and we will most probably get the refund… he also mentioned that retail price is over $600 for this laptop.

    • +6

I cannot believe how retailers do this to customers. If it was a genuine pricing error they should give a prompt refund with maybe a $10 store credit or 5% off next purchase or something small like per customer rather than per order. Seems more than a bit dodgy when stores do this kind of thing and it's not getting something back I care about it's knowing they don't have a mindset of getting one over the customer.

      • "I'll bet $50 that this is a genuine deal,"

        Can i have my $50 first :D

      • HN already set a precedent that nothing will happen to the reputation of your company if you pull such stunts occasionally, and the ACCC won't even bother crashing on you. Now these guys are trying out to see if its true.

        • +2

If the news make it to the mainstream tv media, I guess the story may change a bit. Retailers should not blame their customers for their own mistakes and still think they can protect their reputations. I hope this time will get ACCC's attention.

      • +10

Even if the store does that as a gesture for their mistake, haters are going to hate. Some people will stop at nothing to get the 'deal' they were promised. They feel they have a right to the deal and are owed the deal because they invested time to make the transaction and accepting the offer from the retailer. They have no regard for how much money the retailer would be losing and justify it by telling themselves that the company can afford it. Retailers are businesses, not charities and customers jumping on their horse threatening to gallop to the ACCC really does irk me.

Mistakes do happen, and so do glitches. If the retailer identifies a mistake on their website and offers me a prompt (within 24-48 hours) refund and a voucher/coupon for future use, then they've done right by me.

The internet has undoubtedly changed the way we shop. A web price is no different to a price printed in a catalogue. Catalogue printing/pricing errors happen all the time and Apology notices commonly appear at the front of stores but they don't generate as much stink or publicity. Because of the connected world we now live in, news travels fast and it's allowed us to make a payment to the retailer. It doesn't change the fact that it's still a pricing error.

Pricing errors are one thing. How it's handled is a completely separate matter. What Gerry Harvey said is what not to do, so it'd be interesting to see how Centrecom handles this.

I'm not a retailer or a business owner. Just my 2c.

        • +1

new law - all local internet retailers should not process payments for confirmed orders until shipped.

  • +1

Checked in store, should be the price error, system showing selling at 639

  • +2

lol may be someone press 2 instead of 5 or centrecom have catch on fast

  • +27

Unhappy centrecom customers say its online store reneged on a New Year deal after a website bungle that could have cost the retailer close to the annual GDP of a small Pacific nation.

centrecom chief Jerry Built said a mistake occurred when uploading the sale price of an Asus notebook, which retails for about $900.

It was supposed to be discounted to about $600 but instead was listed as $299, the amount of the discount.

"It went up as a mistake around midnight and by 4am our people were alerted to it," Mr Built said.

But not before about 300 people snapped up many of the bargain notebooks, according to Mr Built, who said it was the work of uber professionals, not everyday consumers.

"It was obviously a mistake and they farking well knew it," he said.

Ozbargain forum members said they had bought the Asus notebooks using Paypal and credit cards and IOUs.

    • and IOUs

      Hahaha. Professionals keep improving.

  • +3

I'm surprised you guys don't realise how dodgy these guys actually are after the xfx 7970 bs recently and many before it…

  • +4

Very glad I was asleep by the time this expired. Just saved myself $300.

Good luck to everyone who bought it. I hope it's not a pricing error.

  • -8

Not really worth posting if there's like, 2 left around the state of Victoria; as it was pretty much out of stock everywhere and this was only posted 10 hours ago…

  • Professionals at work lol

i did recall they had a sale few months back for buy one laptop get one free.. was a celeron win7 for 399? so this could be legit as some of their stocks are parallel imports
