That's a lot of Kogan credits.

    • +2

      That's a big Twinkie.

    • +1

Is this AU stock or overseas grey import?

  • +11

I cancelled my EB pre-order and went with Kogan as well because like you i have a ton of credit…

Just be aware though their 5th June delivery guarantee fineprint says if you don't receive it on the 5th they'll give you $10 kogan credit to spend by the end of the year. That doesn't sound overly promising.

    • +6

sounds suspiciously like they don't have confirmed stock to fill the pre-orders.

    • Did you get a full refund? I have $100 Kogan
      Credit from credit card spends.

    • How can you cancel the preorder?

  • where do you guys get those credits? refund?

    • +8

      Kogan Credit Card.

I got one when they were offering like $600 credit to sign up, but i've kept it as it's not a bad card. Zero fees and any points earned get converted to kogan credit. It's nice to have money sitting to spend on gadgets when I want.

Then I use reward gateway for 5% - 10% off gift cards to top it off if required.

      • i found it fairly useless,
because if you do a balance transfer (like i did),
you're not allowed to use the card for any purchases because it then invalidates the BT early reverting to a Cash rate on that statement.

but i did use the credit

        • The BT transfer limitation is fairly common for most if not all credit cards, some will default to 20% interest instead of the 0% they promised, the moment you use the credit card.

          • @OpayuOnam: It's a shame i didn't have that with westpac nab or latitude

I would have thought its their best interest to encourage people use their cards to accumulate merchant fees

            • @cski: Strangely enough, whenever I have considered the balance transfer, reading the fine prints has revealed that the moment you use the credit card the BT converts to cash advance, even for latitude with an existing account!

  • +6

I am not intended getting it on launch day, if I were, I will probably grab one with gift card at JB. Easy 10% off. Make sense if you have tons of kogan credit. Seems like there is no stock issue yet, all retailers preorder still live.

I remember when N64 games were $80 at release 20 years ago

      • +3

Yeah, the newest generation didn't live in the N64 era, and most of us forget those prices too.

      • +12

This might hurt but that was 30 years ago not 20.

        • Ouch. 2005 was Wii territory I believe.

I do fondly remember my first NES…
          Like tears, in rain.

        • Want to know what is also nearly 30 years old that will make you feel old if you're anything like me last weekend when I realised - Happy Gilmore is 29 years old ….

      • +2

Nintendo games in general rarely get cheaper. Its a weird Nintendo thing. Same thing for Switch 1 games and Cube games. (at least for the popular ones)

        • +2

Yeah they are like the Apple of the gaming industry. Rarely sales and bargains. 65 dollars for Skyrim? Sure why not!

Having said that, I bought a PS5 disc edition recently but their prices are still high as well. I was so used to the PS4 where you can get games like God of War (2018) for 15 bucks.

      • I found parents atari game and it had $99 sticker on the front

    • +6

I mean, you probably should compare it against something like a Steamdeck or ROG Ally, not a second hand Switch Lite from cash converters.

Not sure how many companies would do well by pricing new products in comparison to used prices of lesser models of their 8 year old releases…

        • +9

          How'd Mario hurt you???

    • +4

I wish you weren't downvoted. This is the truest ozbargain opinion. At this price I won't buy one for a couple of years. Nintendo dragging their feet with technology and innovation once again while gouging on console and game prices. Can get a rog ally gen 1 for near that price.

      • -1

Are you still waiting for a Switch 1 price drop?

      • +3

It's only the predominant opinion on every other social media site that actually combats brigading. But OzB gonna OzB.

  • I wonder if these are grey imports?

    • +3

No, kogan itself sells official oz stock. Third party however is most likely gray import.

  • Sounds like possible to price beat with Officeworks😋

    • Have you tried? I was wondering if they offer price beat on pre-orders. Their website explicitly says it only applies to 'in stock' items, so I was dubious they would price beat pre-orders

    • I rang to check - they don't price match pre-orders. Item must be in stock (at Officeworks and the retailer you are trying to match the price with)

    • Don't think OW would price beat this as it's locked behind a membership. Although I may be wrong and some people in the past were able to price beat Costco with proof of membership.

  • In theory, I could price match my EB preorder, no?

    • +3

EB doesnt do price match for consoles.

Even if they did, this price is for Kogan FIRST members, which they still probably wouldnt match, as it is locked behind a membership.

  • If I do a pre-order now, any idea on when the invoice is actually sent?
Im going overseas in July and plan to give this to my nephew, so I would use the TRS scheme.

A lot of money for a minor spec bump

    • +2

But a lot of money outthere so people will still buy things they dont need to bump their ego and showing off

    • +1

Is it that bad? I haven't followed anything from the news, but having released a game on Switch a couple of years ago I couldn't get over how under-powered it was compared to other gen systems.

      • +3

Considering it's getting Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, and Wild Hearts, it's looking to be pretty powerful.

Also if you don't mind me asking, what game did you release?

        • +2

Bilkins' Folly - I'd suggest the Steam version over Switch XD

          • @Hurg: Good stuff, seems like a neat puzzle game from what I've read up.

            Congrats on launching that game!

    • Should of gone to spec savers

    • -2

When will people realise Nintendo isn't about the specs? Go get an Xbox if that's what you're after

    • -1

      it is 6-12x faster

gpu 1536 modern cuda cores vs 256 legacy ones
nvidia dlss that can double fps
      12gb vs 4gb
256gb fast storage vs 32gb slow
cpu 8 fast cores arm vs 4 slow arm
screen 1080p 120hz HDR vs 720p no hdr 60 fps
      dock has a fan
      bigger and ergonomic

this is the biggest jump of any Nintendo console to date

      • +4

It is kind necessary since it took 8 year

        • +2

Sure, and the reason it is such a massive upgrade is that the OG switch had pathetic hardware since it was released, just getting worse with time.

I'm just responding to the comment above saying "A lot of money for a minor spec bump", that's very wrong. I don't remember another Nintendo gen that had a similar jump in performance.

edit: it's such an upgrade I forgot to mention two other major changes

          screen has VRR
          gpu supports ray tracing

    • I'd love to know what your definition of a 'minor spec bump' is.

  • +3

    This is OzNintendo !!!

    • +1

      Welcome, Mario

  • 10% BigW from ER can be used for buying switch?

    • +1

      Console no, games yes.

  • Does anyone know - since I don't have a switch 1 or a nintendo account right now, will I still be able to preorder this? Doesn't Nintendo have some rules for this now to avoid scalpers (btw am not one just want to buy a switch and now that the switch 2 is coming and plays switch 1 games I'm not gonna waste my money on a switch 1)

  • This isn’t as good as some of the other Switch 2 deals around but Kogan I know for sure is one of the more reputable companies that delivers on time.

  • +2

I don't understand why the excitement for all these deals here. They're barely deals. And the prices for the new games are insane. $104-114 for a game is the antithesis of ozbargain. And since it's Nintendo, you know that'll be the price forever going forward.

    • +7

It's not gonna be the same price forever you goose. $120 Mariokart now is gonna be $150 for the same Mariokart when it re-releases for the switch 3.

Nintendo knows they got fans sucking at the teet.

  • +1

I just saw footage of MarioKart World, and the graphics look like a Switch could run it? A new device seems so redundant unless they called this Switch 1 Pro/Plus or some shit.

    • Nintendo can't stand toe to toe with other consoles, they just don't want to spend the money on R&D. Shit they probably blew all their budget getting voice chat in 2025 lmao.

Their graphics will forever have textures to "off"

      • Nintendo will never stand toe to toe with other consoles

It's not their business model and they never intend to do that. If that's your vibe, get a ps or xb, and if you want it to be portable, get a ps portal lol

        • +3

That's exactly my point, Nintendo doesn't want the latest and greatest. They'd rather milk the same 3 ips they have and do minimal work to be able to re-release them over and over.

Patiently waiting for a ryujinx 2 tbh

    • +2

You can change the video quality from 480p FYI, little cog icon.

  • sold out on bundle already, damn

  • +2

yeah I on the fence with this I sold all my entire switch game collection over the last couple of months and my switch OLED i am still wanting to get a steam deck over this though, I don't know if this is worth the price of a ps5 original to me that being said I never play my ps5 lol

  • how do you get Kogan credits, is this their 'points' system for purchases or something?

    • +1

I would guess from kogan credit card.

The $300 kogan credit is standard, sometimes they do up size to $400 or $500 kogan credit.

  • wouldn't trust Kogan on something like this tbh…. putting in a $10 credit if they don't hit the launch date is just super suspicious.

Besides, with the Amazon Ultimate gift card discount, you can still get it at JB for $715, and I think slightly less at EB Games - ie. places with a physical store where you can pick it up on the day knowing they have allocated stock for you.

    • Amazon promo on gift cards has ended :(

  • -1

Back in stock but invalid promo code

    • +2

      What promo code lol

  • If I sign up for the Kogan First free trial but then cancel the membership before it ships, will it still come at the slightly cheaper price?

    • I am also wondering this

    • +2

Yes, you’re charged the discounted price immediately after placing the preorder, and you can cancel Kogan First after placing the order.

  • $679 at DigiDirect with code Beans20
    https://www.digidirect.com.au/nintendo-switch-2-console

    • I know this is an old post but is there a new code? Since Beans20 is expired.

  • +1

I guess they have to compete somehow, if you're ok waiting for $20, its a fair deal, I'll be keeping my preorder to pick up on Day 1, less risk of delivery dramas, it'll probably be fine but too valuable for me to risk it without a courier service.

    • yep, I have the same thought.
I know a pre-order at JB or EB or OW to pickup in store will be there on day 1.

Kogan or any other 'online' store may or may not deliver on time (with a myriad of excuses at the ready….) and being a Thursday for the launch date it could mean not receiving it until the following week… I'd rather pay the little bit more to make sure I have it for that weekend :D
