Not quite a round-the-world deal, and also not really the best time to visit the USA, but some pretty decent prices esp. for Perth/Brisbane on JAL/Cathay codeshare flights.

Dates are very flexible - just have to trial and error.

Few examples ex Perth

Here's a few examples with the following dates:
Flight 1: 07/08 (to Tokyo)
Flight 2: 19/08 (to USA/Canada)
Flight 3: 02/09 (to Aus)

Ex Perth:
JAL flights stop at Hong Kong or Singapore between Aus & Japan (ANA is direct)
to Hong Kong: Cathay
to Singapore: Qantas
Flights to USA all direct except ANA to Chicago

Vancouver: $1704 (ANA) / $6860 (JAL) / $7131 (ANA)
Los Angeles: $1757 (JAL) / $1872 (ANA) / $6932 (JAL) / $7145 (ANA)
San Diego: $? / $6591 (JAL)
San Francisco: $1757 / $7145 (ANA)
Seattle: $1844 (ANA) / $6591 (JAL) / $7145 (ANA)
Dallas: $? / $7255 (JAL)
Chicago: $1869 (ANA) / $1932 (JAL) / $6446 (ANA) / $7256 (JAL)
Boston: $? / $7273 (JAL)
New York: $2026 (JAL) / $ 2279 (ANA) / $7277 (JAL) / $7792 (ANA)

Can fly in and out from different airports (helps if u want to minimise stay in the US)

e.g. to New York and back from Vancouver = $2019 (ANA) / $7745 (ANA)
JAL 5/8 - 12/8 - 19/8 gives $7000 for Business

Stopover in Hong Kong on the way back (and maybe the way there too idk) gives same price from what I've seen
(e.g. 6 day stopover in Hong Kong from LA on way back is same price)

Can probably stopover in Singapore too, can't find a good price tho.

Brisbane slightly more expensive.

For Sydney, ANA is cheaper, can't stop in Singapore or Hong Kong as JAL flies direct to Tokyo

e.g. 7/08 SYD to HND
19/08 NRT to YVR
02/09 YVR to SYD

= $1649 / $6557 (ANA)

Can also go to London instead of USA/Canada for about $1000 more on JAL business
Maybe possible on economy too, haven't checked.

**imo best deal is from Perth as you can stop in Hong Kong, and Cathay is updating its business class.

It is also possible to start the journey in one Australian city and end it in another (similar price) - find your own way either to/from Perth if you're not from there.

I have seen JAL economy in the $1500s ex. Perth and business ~$5950 but I can't find the dates

Can most likely get better prices than the examples given.

Booking via JAL/ANA directly may be slightly more expensive (insignificant for Business class)**

I'd be a little worried getting into USA after this incident

      Atrocious treatment!

I regularly fly bizarre routes to the US like SYD>DOH>USA purely because I prefer travelling business with Qatar Airways, but given this travellers experience I might have to rethink my round the world detours and any travel to the US altogether.. I've been targeted by US Customs & Immigration previously flying into New York. I got pulled into a room with a bunch of other unfortunate souls - all of an ethnic background - and then got my own little private interrogation room asking questions like, "why did you travel to Saudi Arabia", which I hadn't, and had to hand over my Facebook handle, email address, employers details etc etc.. bizarre, but at least I have a fun story to tell. They even had a suited up US agent pull me aside in Doha to question my travel movements which I thought was quite peculiar. He seemed to be waiting for me at the gate, paid no attention to the plane load of people and was just waiting for me to be identified by the gate staff, and left immediately after my open air interrogation - I felt like Jason Bourne after that interaction. I do find it very interesting that the US has men in black around the world waiting to question unsuspecting (and highly amused) passengers - big brother is watching..

    • This is really the only time being a dual citizen has benefitted me, not that I am rushing to return to the US - although at this prices it is tempting!

Just go to Canada instead. You’ll get your Universal Studios and Disneyland fix in Japan anyway.

      • Go to India a lot cheaper instead going to Canada. Same same. Lol

Went to Ontario, Vancouver and Alberta last year and thought I was in Harris Park. They were friendlier tho.

    • Don't think we'll ever see you in Dubai then.

Somethings a miss, probably was mouthing off

    • You probably have a greater chance of getting detained in America for criticising Donald Trump right now than in China for criticising Xi Jinping…

  • I travelled to Cuba last year, even getting a eVisa now is more complicated (not that i'm in any hurry to travel to USA at the moment)

    • Was it worth it though?

  • Would probably avoid Japan July August.
    Very hot and very muggy.

I guess if you like FNQ you'll survive regardless

  • Any good flights to Canada?

  • Have you tried booking under Qantas for flights departing from Perth to see if codeshare flights with CX/JL applies to Oneworld status credits? I vaguely recall DSC promos only apply to QF metal, but unsure if normal status credits apply to non QF flights that are Oneworld members.
