        • thank you!

  • anyone planning to go to this from a 42C2?

    • Me!

    • Nah. 42 c2 is still good and i can barely game over 120hz at 4K anyway

    • Nah waiting for the LG 32" WOLED 4K glossy monitor that's reported to be released later in the year

  • If you are using side monitors and want to continue using them just keep the curve in mind. Have yet to see a nice set up using side monitors with this thing. Vertical seems to be what a number of redditors are doing

42" flat OLED + 2*24" in vertical. Best of everything. I just don't have table space

      • Have the 42C2 and same set up for side monitors, works well with a flat display of course but not going to go well when the central screen has that curvature.

        • 42" as a side monitor. How BIG is your desk?? :D

        • What's the issue with curved central screen?

I havent seen setups with this monitor in particular, but have definitely seen setups with a curved central screen. (I have a curved main screen, but only one secondary side screen, due to OS limitation.)

Not suggesting that you are wrong - just curious what the issue is with a curved central screen, as I havent heard this before.

          • @caprimulgus: I had the Samsung 49" and it's a much shallower curve so you can have monitors on the side and they still fit in well, back far enough, align them nicely etc.

On this monitor the curve isn't shallow, so think this monitor in the center, the extent of that curve and where your side monitors would end up.

This is one of the few pics using side monitor. It kinda works but you can see how close that side monitor will be when hes sitting at the desk to fit in with the angle of the curve
            https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/1jfdto…

            • @Osiris: Ah right - so you just meant how steep the curve is (not all curved monitors). That makes more sense!

Fwiw, I reckon that setup looks alright! (My side monitor is probably closer than that!) :)

  • And what gpu do you need to run this bad boy and distance for working on documents etc for work.

    • +1

I'd guess you'd want a 5080 as minimum to do it some justice but a 5090 probably better

      • +4

Still shocked people are paying $6000 for a GPU. I thought $2000 was crazy when it first happened but here we are

    • Work
Recommended distance is 80cm from eyes to the screen, as everything is equivalent distance
Make sure your GPU supports HDMI 2.1 or DP 2.1 to be safe

      Gaming
Depends what the game is, and what your expectations are regarding resolution, graphic settings, minimum frames, etc.

You could run this on a $500 7600XT if you drop the resolution to 2560x1080 and happy with 60 FPS in most games

      But if you want to run it closer to 5120x2160 and 100 FPS, you'd want a 7900XTX / 9070XT or 5070 Ti / 5080

Value for money, 9070 XT probably the pick of bunch if can find one for <$1200, and the games you play support FSR4

Realistically only a 5090 would let you run everything maxed out but that's like $6000

      • Value for money, 9070 XT

When spending $2.5k on a monitor, value for money doesn't really come in to the equation.

        • +1

          I don't quite agree there

For like 20 years I've been buying and building PC's.
If I was to use napkin math, I'd say my GPU was always about half the price of monitor it was designed to drive
Even in this scenario, I'm using my 7900 XTX which I got for $1400 to drive a $2400. Not far off that rule of thumb

All of a sudden having the top tier GPU at 2.5x this monitor is insane to me

          Hell, I still think it's crazy that AMD's "mid-range" GPU is $1200+

          COVID really messed with pricing

          • @abowen: Whilst it did, reality is that scaling wise some components are gonna feck with ratios over time.

Gfx cards are simply incredibly intensive to produce cf monitors, especially at the level of tech being done.

A power supply or case hasn't kept up with rest of components for example.

  • I'd say my GPU was always about half the price of monitor it was designed to drive

Looking back over the past few years I have to disagree there when aiming for high end. Numbers all over the place.

    When I go back years to 2017 1080ti - $1249 which I paired with Acer Predator XB271HU - $888
Then much more recently AMD 6800 - ~$1000 (can't find receipt) paired with Samsung G7 32" UHD - ~$1000 (receipt in my son's Samsung EDU account so guessing)
    Then 2023 RTX 4080 - $2000 paired with (2024) Dell AW3225QF - $1500 (missed the sales)
    Now 2025 RTX 5080 - $2499 paired with this $2,243.73

In summary, it's really bad value for money unless invested in gaming

    • Well I did say my numbers, not everyones

Other purchases for me from my (poor) memory

      • 5700 XT for $700 with $1100 LG 34"
      • 6900 XT for $1500 with $1800 AOC 49"

I also don't think post-COVID GPU prices should be entering this equation, as my point was COVID pricing has made things absurd

Yours are more 1:1 ratio, that's why I'd still say the 2.5:1 ratio is absurd

Then in saying that, if the 9070 XT is half the price of this monitor, isn't that the "value for money" option?

In summary, it's really bad value for money unless invested in gaming

Issue is the Dell 40" is still $2250 it's the only aspects it will be better at are rendering text + no burn in, but every other metric this monitor smashes it.

  • Already expired ?

    • No idea why, I'm still getting that it's in stock. I removed expiry warning until proven otherwise

Maybe people don't know they're supposed to be registered with MyLG for extra 5%

      • According to chat the code UGMNT5 had to register interest by end of the 9th. So yesterday. No way to claim that code otherwise. However they did give another code for 5% through chat but that would make cashrewards ineligible. But got it through edu anyway.

        • Thankyou, I'll update

        • Did edu stack with the 5% code?

          • +1

@mthucs: I got a 5% code through chat. But cancelled the next day and reordered as they dropped a 10% code. Details are somewhere in this thread.

  • You'd want a big desk and office to get the most out of screens this size so you can sit back far enough

    • I'm going to be sitting back 80cm for the curve to work as intended

The desk is 180cm in width to ensure I can fit bookshelf speakers on the side but I'm sure can get away with a 160cm desk

  • anyone else's order status showing as "on hold"

    • Mine is too

    • Yeah mine too, I presume that's just the pre-order status

  • safe to assume that 2k resolution on 45 inch will look bad as?

    • safe to assume that 2k resolution on 45 inch will look bad as?

      as bad as what?

      • as bad as 1080p resolution on 4k tvs bad
as bad as free to air tv on 4k tvs

    • +1

129ppi, look pretty good to me.

I have no issue on 109ppi

But if I was a graphics person, I'd probably go for 150pp+ and scale

    • Mines arrived and happy with it

Maybe others could nitpick text but I can't notice any issues

  • What are the actual dimensions of this screen? Yes it's 45" but the spec sheet only talks about the unit as a whole, not the screen height/width? Perhaps put another way, what would this equivalate to as two screens?

    • Without stand 991.6 x 460.7 x 225.5mm

Press the "See all specs" link when you're on the Spec page

      • I saw that, but wouldn't that include the bezel?

    • +1

It's a "21:9" (a marketing term, not an exact aspect ratio) ultrawide, so there isnt an equivalent for two screens. (You might be thinking of 32:9 super ultrawides, which are equivalent of two 16:9 stuck together.)

It would be the equivalent of a 36" (16:9) 4K screen (if such exists), stretched out to 21:9 (ie. a 36" 4K stretched 1.33x wider).

      In the same way that a 40" (21:9) 5K2K is a 32" (16:9) 4K screen stretched to 21:9 (ie. a 32" 4K stretched 1.33x wider).

      Rough comparison:
      https://www.displaywars.com/45-inch-21x9-vs-36-inch-16x9

If you mean pure number of pixels (for bandwidth / processing power), it would be closest to 2x 3200x1800 (16:9) screens.

If you mean width on the desk, it seems to be roughly the same width as 2x 24" (16:9) screens - in terms of width only (will be much taller):
      https://www.displaywars.com/45-inch-21x9-vs-24-inch-16x9

  • +1

Sooooo tempted but worried that the 800R curve would be a bit too much for me especially for photo editing.

Also I feel like with such a strong curve the sweet spot would be pretty small…not sure how it'd be if I want to kick back legs up watching videos.

Might just have to wait and see if the self bending version comes out towards the end of the year and hopefully see what the 39" variant would be like as well.

If all I did was game I'd probably jump on this.

    • +2

      +1 waiting on self bending

Keep checking site every week to see if they offer another registration discount for preorders

      • We've yet to see a bendable display with a VESA mount though

  • Cashback offer only showing 1.95%, just wondering what Im doing wrong?

  • -7

    2560x1080 👏 IS 👏 NOT 👏 "2K" 👏

It's like then mouthbreathers didn't even have the braincells to realise half of "5K" is just "2.5K"

    • +1

5k2k refers to 5120x2160, not the second WFHD 330Hz mode

  • Not really sure what to do with my order at this point, given all the buzz about a 240Hz version coming next year with the updated LG OLED panel.

The only thing keeping me on the 45GX950A is the discounts mentioned in this thread - $1000 off for pre-order, plus the 10% EDU discount and another 5% off. It's a pretty good deal on a new $3500 monitor, but then again, all these discounts may be "priced in" for the 240hz varient coming soon and this 165hz model will be quickly outdated and heavily discounted even further.

It's likely the 240Hz version won’t come with the same offers and might end up costing a lot more….

    • SPEND2000 for another 10% off edu emails

Issue is like most things, there's always something around the corner

I played my monitor on 120Hz and 165Hz mode. 165Hz was a bit smoother but not enough that I cared if went back to 120Hz.
Can only imagine the 240Hz would be further diminishing returns

Also having a GPU that can drive it to that high frame rate is another story

      Each to their own though

  • +3

looks like a new coupon just got added to my EDU account, hopefully its for everyone.

    SPEND2000
    Spend $2000 Get 10% Discount
    Expires 31 Dec 2025

Brings the total down to $2,125.64

    https://imgur.com/a/8X4tRAI

    • Didn't seem to work for me with generic gmail

      https://imgur.com/a/MZBT1TR

I went in via cashrewards and standard, neither worked

    • Awesome I just cancelled my original order and reordered with the greater discount

      • Education email or generic?

My guess is education specific :(

        • Yeah education, but you can use alumni addresses

          • @tjhogwash: My university killed my email address :(

It's going back 15 years, so fair enough

            • @abowen: Me too I graduated in 2002, but Melbourne Uni give out edu.au alumni addresses

    • +1

Can confirm I got the $2,125.64 with EDU account and the spend $2000 discount as well

  • Very tempted… looks like the best value is going through the partner store and adding the SPEND2000 code? Any other stacking we know?

    • Yeah, edu seems like the best

Seems about 40% off total once finish stacking

  • Code expired? Showing "SPEND2000" is a code that is not available on the product or is not valid. Using edu account

    • +2

Need to go to the education hub, from what I read on this thread. It won't work on standard store even if you're logged in to your edu account.

For the corporate partner store : https://www.lg.com/au/partners/login/

      Including SPEND2000 - Total came to $2007

      • How did you get to $2007? After SPEND2000 the total goes from $2,361.82 to $2,125.64 for me. Anything else stack?

        • +1

The partners store has the price at $2230.61 + extra 10%. Access is provided through work.

          This is separate to edu.

          • @Aced21: Did you get SPEND2000 to work without an .edu email? The price shown on partner store is ~$2450 and can't use the code there.

            • @siruba: I purchased using my work email via the corporate partners portal, and it shows the SPEND2000 promotion. The code will not work without being on the partner website i.e. if i went directly to LG website, and used the code, it will not work and I expect the same for edu. I'm not sure what edu uses for their portal, but have you tried going through here? https://www.lg.com/au/partners/login/

      • +1

Thanks! It works. Got final price $2125.64 from through edu email

  • What is the warranty like on this ? they dont even mention it !! Dell has burn in warranty.

  • Ohh, for people who ordered this, does lg charge on ship or on purchase /preorder ?

    • +1

      I'm yet to be charged

So my uneducated guess would be 23rd of April before shipping out on 25th.

    • I was charged on pre-order

      Edit: I paid via PayPal

      • that makes sense, because paypal cant do temporary hold

  • Has anyone had any luck getting discount codes through sales chat? No access to any EDU emails here :(

    • Someone else said they got 5%. Have skim the comments

    • Tried. It was pointless. Maybe with different staff post PH.

      • fwiw I got 10% off through chat last week, just said I wanted to upgrade my current lg oled - that said, the 10% coupon couldn't stack with the 5% off one.

        • lg sa8d coupons dont stack

  • +2

Heads up, edu price is showing up ass $2007 now. SO i cancelled my old and re ordered.

    • +2

Confirmed, I just did this as well. Thanks!

    • Damn! The deal just keeps on getting better! Shame it's out of stock now so I'm too scared to cancel my existing order

      • I think preorders were only up until this morning - for this round anyway, so too late to cancel and reorder.

  • -1

I was trying to buy one just now and website was struggling to load Paypal and Credit Card payment and cleared my basket 3 times, and now it's marked as Out Of Stock.

FFS. I wasn't going to get the edu price either. Gutted I've missed out on the 25% pre-order price as this was my monitor to replace my OG Samsung G9

    • you've had 2 weeks, why wait until the last possible moment???

      • Because I only saw the deal last week thanks to a reddit post and it's school holidays so been busy with the kids and family and hadn't run through the whole justification with my partner - some things it's okay to buy first and then talk about, but $2.5k is a chunk of cash and I like to discuss larger purchases with her in detail first.

    • I feel ya pain Mantzy, I ended up in same boat.

I couldn't decide between this or another monitor then in the end about 11.30 went bugger it ill just get the 45" but to my surprise it was gone. Naturally go to buy the other one and its discount which was meant to run until the 26th had ended early so I missed both. That's indecision for you.

      • Better than paying X, and then as soon as it ships, it gets reduced by 20%… 9 out of 10 times this happens to me. Even with this deal, it was reduced by 5.2% after I applied every possible discount.

If it's any consolation, in my experience, display screens lose more value than anything else—except maybe EVs/Teslas, so by B-Friday the 44.5"er will probably be $1400… almost guaranteed if my order arrives.

        • Can't wait! 28 Degrees price protection is the best. I'll happily take further post-sales reductions. Get the monitor early AND the lower price.

  • People on reddit are saying they're getting apology emails for Mid May (13/5) deliveries when the pre-order was made 10/4.
I reordered last night via edu after noticing the price drop, guess I might be a June delivery aha.

      • When did you order? I'm 39 orders behind you so might be like a Mid May batch.

        • +1

I actually placed a replacement order yesterday.

After it was found out that we could get this for a further discount

    • From a email update:

Leo here from the LG.com Customer Service team, we hope this finds you well.
We wanted to let you know that your order, XXXXXXXX16 has had an unexpected shipping delay, with an expected dispatch date of 13/05/2025.
We're sorry to keep you waiting, and understand this may be an inconvenience.

We thank you for your understanding and sharing our excitement of the newly launch LG 45GX950A-B.AAU.

    • My order was placed 11/4 delayed until 13/5

    • what price drop… shows $3,499.00 and edu $2,974.15 OOS.

      • Pre-order has finished. I think yesterday was last day

        • He is talking about the 24th Price drop on Edu storefront i think lol.

      • The whole point of this deal. There was a pre order discount.
