Looked up the book series after watching the trailer for the new tv show coming in May of the same name and seen the first book is only 99 cents, didn't see it listed anywhere else here, can not see an end date to this either

A murderous android discovers itself in All Systems Red, a tense science fiction adventure by Martha Wells that interrogates the roots of consciousness through Artificial Intelligence.

"As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure."

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid — a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.

But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

Murderbot is so great. I expected to hate it when I picked up the first one but they are just fun, engaging reads that don’t outstay their welcome.

    Worth the dollar.

  • One of my favourite easy to read book series.

Worth a read for even non sci-fi fans.

  • oo, a 7 book series.
there's complete graphic audio of the whole series too.

Anna told me she read this series for free.

I went to the bay to hear it

  • Great book series. First trailer has me very concerned about the adaptation though. Looks to have missed the tone of the books completely.

    • I thought the trailer got the tone of the books pretty spot on ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Time will tell I guess.

I hope it's a more faithful adaptation of the book than the Wheel of Time series has been…

      • I felt like they nailed it too. Been a while since I read the books though…haven't read the last yet.

I was pretty stoked to see the trailer. Thought it was a year or two away!

  • If you’re looking for a similar new, Australian book to read afterwards, Letters to Our Robot Son is coming out end of the month in print.

Oh this is how I find out they are making a TV series!!

I've been meaning to read this series for quite a while.
I didn't realise the books were so short at around 150-170 pages each. I wouldn't pay $17 for such a short story, but $0.99 is good!

  • Wasn’t expecting this to be so good. The best out of the first few I read of the series, but I haven’t finished yet (and the others are still pretty good). The first one is also short and works fairly well as a self-contained story, so it’s a low commitment.

  • Thanks OP, great little novella, $0.99 well spent lol.

I'm going to have to check out the rest of the books now.
