Best umbrella I ever owned, this is rock solid…

"The last umbrella you'll ever buy" - I wish this were true. At some stage I will leave my umbrella as a gift for someone on the train.

    • +12

Blunt should change it to "the last umbrella that will break on you"

      • +16

should be Blunt, the next umbrella you'll forget

      • Exactly!

    • I’ve started getting around that by tying my umbrella to my bag. I have a neoprene wine bottle holder and tie the handles with a piece of ribbon.

    • +3

Same.. Had one for years then left it on a bus.. Still miss it :(

      • I feel your pain, did the same and no good Samaritan returned it at the bus terminal.

        • Blunt, if you lose it, you ain't getting it back.

    • +4

I traded in my car last week and left mine in the boot!

      • +1

        J. Peterman wants his Kennedy's golf clubs in the boot

  • Anybody know what 'outlet stock' means? Lower quality gear?

    • +10

I mean… have you taken a moment to look? Rushfaster literally explain it in black and white when you look at their listings.

      • No. I did not take a moment to look.

In hindsight, that may have been more functional.

Ever since my $150 Blunt umbrella got wrecked by only ONE windy day and Blunt refused to send a replacement, I will forever comment on any post regarding Blunt to say "BIG NO".

    • Pointed comment. I see what you did there ;-)

    • +13

This is the sort of anti-brand dedication that I come to the comments for. So often I find the person harbors the resentment towards the brand less because of any specific product failure, and more because of how they perceived they were treated unfairly or rudely when dealing with customer service.
Things can break, that's life, but don't be completely shit to your customers.

My blunt umbrella was excellent, but it was also stolen right out of my trolley at Costco.

I don't think I'll ever buy an expensive umbrella again

  • +2

I'm gonna get some hate on this but this umbrella is not really compact and practical, taking up a chunk of a standard backpack. Also disappointed with the inward curved sides which means on heavy raining days, slightly less surface area to cover you. That said, as everyones been saying, its a strong sturdy umbrella that would last a long time.

How does this compare with the Xiaomi Umbrellas?

    • My perception from looking at plenty of comments around Ozb is that the '12 bone' Xiaomi used to be great but recently saw a quality drop…

With that said, I bought the above mentioned from AliExpress as a new user for $3.87 delivered at the end of March, and received last week. I'm sure OPs is higher quality, but there is no way I'm spending $70+ on an umbrella unless mine breaks easily. Build quality of the 'quality decayed' Xiaomi is still great as far as mine looks. I've only used it once tho.

    • Don't know yet, but you can buy at least four of them at the cost of this blunt one.

  • +3

    That's an expensive umbrella.

  • -3

What's the deal? Is this discounted or something?

  • +1

Thanks OP. Bought 2 execs and 2 metros. Execs for dog walking. Metros for leaving in the car..

First day in Australia in 2016, I bought one from 711,it's still with me. Lost it multiple times and found 😁

  • +2

This item is unsuitable for my use as I lose many umbrellas.

  • Does it work in Melbourne?

    • +11

No, it’s geo locked. You need to use a vpn if you want to use it in Melbourne.

  • +4

What on earth do people do to their ‘cheap’ umbrellas that they feel compelled to spend anywhere near $100 on one!??

I’ve owned maybe 3 umbrellas in my life, each one $5-10 at most, got a good decade out of each.

  • +1

The last umbrella you'll ever buy.

    Until you lose it.

  • +1

I still have 2 out of 3 wormwoods going, I'm good for now.

    • Me too!

  • What is so special about it? It doesn't even have a second canopy.

  • +2

Bought the Xiaomi for $7 from Ali Express.

Also: Blunt Umbrellas are designed in Auckland, New Zealand, and manufactured near Xiamen, China - $77 for the privilege.

    • Isn't this the way with everything? Designed in California, made in China. Etc etc

      • They gloated for a while about being manufactured in NZ, then did a quick 180 when they realised missed profits

        • Or they couldn't scale in NZ to keep up with demand, hard to produce tens of thousands of units within weeks to meet dfemand, not enough workers etc

  • got one of these and found it smaller than what i was expecting given its length size. maybe im too used to the classic ones too

Blunts look great but this is not a BIFL brand and that's reflected by the short warranty period. Our rarely used Blunt XL suddenly stopped closing one day - the little catch that holds it closed just wouldn't catch.

Blunts are heavier than normal umbrellas so give you a sense they're high quality. They are in the sense the heft probably comes in handy for self defence confidence maybe.

And they look fantastic. Rounded design means you don't have to worry about poking out people's eyes on a crowded sidewalk.

But if you want an actual Buy It For Life, Davek umbrellas not only have an unconditional lifetime warranty (Blunt is a stingy two years, four years if you register an doesn't cover postage nor "wear and tear"), but are slightly lighter. They also go on sale a lot (I'd never pay the RRP). If you lose it, you can buy another at half price and we've found the code for that works more than once.

Also, Blunt's compact model has a pretty inefficient open canopy coverage vs folded size. Blunt Metro is 37.5cm closed (which is actually too long for some messenger style bags) and only 100cm opened.

Davek Solo is a much shorter 29cm closed yet has a 109cm canopy.

For the stick umbrella, however, the Blunt Classic is actually 8cm wider when opened (120cm vs 112cm for the Davek) and 5cm shorter (84cm vs Davek 89cm) when closed.

Other downside of the Daveks is they don't look as flash as the Blunts ie way fewer colours and no Collab designs.

But for me, the Davek's lifetime warranty and loss protection discount makes it worth the cash splash more than Blunt.

    • What is a good price to pay for a Davek Solo?

      • +1

Black Friday usually is 20% off otherwise they have 15% site wide at least yearly. They sometimes have BOGOF sales, though they are rarer. They often have buy an Elite and get a free Solo, or by a Solo and get a Mini.
