Pretty average pricing… certainly not ozbargain material

    • I couldn't find this cheaper, are you able to help those people here who might be interested?

  • Anyone got feedback on the ASUS DSL-N12U B1 ADSL2+ Modem Router? staticice pulls up the next cheapest at $74 (not worried about delivery as I can pickup in sydney) but has anyone actually used one of these?

    • I think they offer USB HDD networking, as well as directly download torrents to USB drive.

Pretty good price for the Gigabyte model, true you can get other models i.e. sapphire for $85 but if you are determined to get the Gigabyte this is most likely the cheapest available.

    • whats the difference with the sapphire model?

      • @areyouawiiizard dont say gigabytes are more reliable because ive had a few gb cards @#$%ed up on me

        • -1

Always had a good run with the GB cards, seem to be just that bit better made.

        • I never said they were in any way better… Though I've been using a Gigabyte motherboard and graphics card for ~3yrs now. I used to run the card at 5-15% OCs depending on the temperature in WA for 2 yrs and it's still running fine… That's just my experience though and doesn't really reflect newer generations since they may use cheaper parts now ect.

      • Can't really see much considering the sites selling the sapphire at that price don't provide basic details or an image… Looking up the model number they give, the Gigabyte is clocked 50mhz higher and the cooling "looks" better.

Even cheaper than MSY (selling at $98)

    Strange:
    1GB for $99 at MSY

These cards are crap. Don't expect to play games on this. And 2GB RAM means nothing for a card this low in spec. It's design to fool some unsuspecting sucker into thinking it's actually good, because it has that much RAM and it's OC'd. If you OC a piece of garbage, then it's a slightly faster piece of garbage, but still a piece of garbage.

Spend real money and get at least 7870, which is still on the low end, but not complete garbage like this one.

The 7750 can still play all of the newest games on High Quality settings with an acceptable 30 frames per second, some of which like BF3 and Civ drop down to something like 25 on MAX(not high) settings. Not everyone feels the need to spend an extra $130 on a graphics card just so they can switch form 60fps at medium settings to 60 fps at high settings or just a 10 fps jump at max settings. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/535

      lostn = ftw

i agree with him but you are talking about a $250 card vs. a $85 card… i have a 7870 and its not low end, its arguably better than midrange… its just knocking on the door of a 7950…

      • +1

It's still considered low end / budget for a gaming card, if you are to consider things like 7970 or 680/690 to be high end.

It's not low in absolute terms, but in relative terms compared to cards above it, it is low.

I doubt this card could play Witcher 2 at anywhere near high settings with good framerate.

its just knocking on the door of a 7950…

        I think I'd rather get that, though I went for a 670.

Not everyone feels the need to spend an extra $130 on a graphics card just so they can switch form 60fps at medium settings to 60 fps at high settings or just a 10 fps jump at max settings.

Yeah OK. You can make that argument. You can buy a budget PC, though you could also buy a Wii for $99. Not everyone wants to spend hundreds on a gaming platform just so things can look a bit better.

I like to compare budget graphics cards to low fat ice cream. There is a market for that stuff, but I think those people are missing the point.

I'd agree that buying a pre OC'd low end card is not worth the effort, however it depends on playing habits whether this card is worth it.

Think of all those WOW players or the like, at 1080p this card will fly. Most indie games on Steam will play beautifully, games from GOG.com (except Witcher 2) will run a treat.

Except the latest AAA games, the rest of the games out there will play fantastically.

          Edit

2Gb is not needed on a card like this, but if it's included, then what does it matter?

7870 is definitely not low end, there are a ton more lower performing cards than there are better performing cards.

If you are going to game at all, you are better off spending a bit more and getting a good, bang for your buck mid-range that will last you for at least a couple of years, such as a 660ti. At least then you will be able to run some nice graphics settings on most games, and get a nice playable framerate.

The problem with cards like these is that anything released within the last 2 years with decent graphics will make it struggle already framerate wise, and forget about playing any recent AAA title such as BF3 or Arkham City beyond low settings.

Another thing to note with older games are they often run into trouble with newer graphics cards, which is something I discovered with Neverwinter Nights when trying to run it on my 6970. So the idea to only play older games might not be as sound as you think, unless you intend to play WOW exclusively.

          Rubbish, absolute rubbish.

With old drivers AMD 7750 1Gb not overclocked gets an average of 35 fps at 1080 and on high details with Battlefield 3, no AA:
          http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7770-7750-benc…

Here is YouTube video of Battlefield 3 on Ultra Settings, at a lower resolution:
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkQvQQPlSqM

So what is the cheapest cost of a 660ti? It won't match the 7750 for bang for buck.

          -Edit-
As for older games not working, that's why I suggested Steam and GOG.com. Both have worked to make older games work well on modern machines, not always problem free, but often old games that didn't work from discs now work from downloads. Dungeon Keeper 2 is a great example, gog.com include a fix with its installation that fixes its problems on modern PC's.

        • Lostn opinion on this matter is completely inaccurate:

At 1900x1200, Ultra settings (Ubersampling disabled) Witcher 2 gets 63 frames per second with 7870.

Not sure how that can be considered low end, considering Witcher 2 is at a decent resolution, well past high settings and averaging 63 frames per second.

        • As I said, relative.

It depends on what you're comparing it to. If you're comparing 7870 against a 7750, then it is very high end.

If you're comparing it to a 680, it is pretty low. I was comparing it to a 680. I would call a 7750 card very low end. Anything lower than 7750 does not even register on my meter.

That's just my metric. You can disagree on my scale if you want, but a person's scale is going to inherently be an opinion.

yeah i agree, this isnt a great card, not much faster than the old 5770.

I just got a 2nd hand 5850 for less and it is a much faster than this 7750.
      http://www.hardwarereview.net/Reviews/ATI%20Radeon%207770/gr…

      • Radeon HD 7750 55 Watts
        Radeon HD 5850 151 Watts
        Difference: 96 Watts (175%)

If you don't mind the power, sure…

        • yeah at full load. Like to guess how often my 5850 is at full load?

If my PC was running games all day that may be an issue. But really even if it was drawing an extra 100w for 10 hours a week that is going to cost me all of about 20 cents.

You know, for $10 a year i would take the card that is 20-50% faster.
