Any user feedback on this versus the venerable Tapo C210?
Better sensor, better detection/AI, better night vision. Great fixed & wired camera.
The C210 has PTZ so if being able to reposition is important that's a factor.
In terms of image quality, the sensor on C120 is very good. I'd say overall it's equal to or better, probably because it's a generation newer.
I'm using one as a baby cam and sometimes I wonder if the blind was left open because the low-light vision is so good. The main reason I chose it though is because it has 'invisible' IR so the baby can't see the red night vision LEDs.
I think the sensor is the same as the one used in newer TPLink VIGI cameras (I have set up outdoors). Even dull moonlight is enough for those to remain in colour mode (not cutting over to IR) so I imagine that if you had one of these outdoors it would be the same.Or even the c110 which goes cheap also
I have both and i prefer this. I think this is both indoor and outdoor, compared to c210 which is just indoor. This one has better detection, and better mounting option. The c210 has pan/tilt though of you need it.
They released a firmware update to record videos on the hub
Was that recently? I had a friend mention it didnt last year when looking for cams. Is that hub really limited to 512GB?
Yes it is from the latest firmware update(1.3.1). You can choose to record either to hub or camera but not both. Yes hub max sd card size is 512GB
@ozmma: @ozmma Does this new firmware also support the D210 and D230 doorbell cameras to connect and record to the hub? Thanks
I have the D2301 doorbell recording to the hub. The other C210 cameras don't. Local recording only. I don't have subscription. Have latest firmware update
Do we have to call to order this?
I tried to click and collect and not available online.Have several of these, excellent bang for buck. So much better than the Wyze cams i had before.
i'm looking to buy a few of these camera on my house. do they connect individually onto my Wifi?
i'm happy to pay for subscription. Do I get to see the videos in real time + recordings? up to 30 days is fine
Yes they all individually connect to your WiFi. Yes you can use their app to see realtime as well recordings from cloud(subs) or on device local storage(sd card).
Does the cloud storage videos as well?
Yes if you buy their subscription
Yes, individually connect to the wifi. You need microsd for storage in each unit. And you will be able to receive notifications as you have set. You will only need subscriptions if you want cloud storage. I have 4 of the tapo units as security cam round the house.
I have 6 of this… They are value for money. I bought this during amazon prime day. It was $59. It is frequently priced at $59, you can consider it as normal price.
Pros:
- Video quality is good.
- Can record 24/7 to local storage.
- You can use any usb adapter power these(5V 1A).
- Works well as baby monitor as it detects baby cry sound very well.
Cons:
- It detects pigeons and cats as people and so setting alerts to app is useless.
- Notifications wont have preview unless you buy their subscription.
- Forget rtsp functionality, they are just there on paper. Stream is so unstable that it is unusable. Anyway, one should buy wired cameras for such stability.
- Their adapter is weatherproof so the camera can be placed outside but not the adapter. You can use any usb adapter power these(5V 1A). So
- They push updates gradually so some of your cameras will be on older firmwares. Not a big deal but I hate it. I bought an outdoor adapter for wyze(micro usb) and spliced it with the cameras cable.
From my 2 cams. Depending on the shadows, it may pick up my cats as only motion instead of a animal, I don't think I've seen it label as a person.
RTSP has been rock solid for me, though i have an almost enterprise level wifi setup. It has the usual two streams, one low and one high quality. My neighbour's all black cat roams around at night and is detected as person in my backyard. I was alarmed couple of times and then turned off the notification. Same thing for the birds in backyard. I have one in driveway that detects headlights of moving car as motion. I think this is the limitation of onboard machine learning.
I have ASUS routers(GT-AX11000 & TUF-AX6000) as access point in AiMesh mode. I tried setting up recording in frigate with object detection as onboard detection isn't good. It will go on for sometime and then the stream will break. This happened frequently and internet said wired cam is the way for stable rtsp performance.
Can one install it by themselves?
Or need a handyman?
Since it is not battery powered, if u need power point I guess u need an electrician.
Was 49 at amazon for months, price matched at jb and used $10 coupon to get it for $39. Decent camera.
