Bitdefender Total Security (5 Devices, 3 Years) ₹1,904.52 (~A$35) @ Bitdefender India

I bought a new computer after 8 years and setting it up now. I was looking for the best malware scanner on the market - went through quite a few anti-virus testing websites, reports and reviews - Bitdefender Total Security always came out on top as the best a/v and malware scanner. Their india website has a sale on at the moment.
I used NORD VPN (India) and Signed up for a Wise virtual card (Indian Rupees), but at the checkout it gave me an option to pay in AUD, so most likely VPN and Wise card are not needed?
They also have other deals - just pick your own device(s) and duration combo.
Enjoy!

  • You need to provide an Indian address.

    • I found an indian address generator online, it even gave me local phone number options

You'll only need Windows Security and common sense nowadays.

    • +7

Make sure you install Common Sense™ 2025

Where do I buy common sense?

    • I always ran Windows security and Malwarebytes Free on my previous laptop. But MWB is so annoying with its never ending popups. So I tried to find a deal for the paid version. But during my research I discovered that Bitdefender Total has better Detection rate than MWB.

His point is you don't need a 3rd party app at all. Why do you want one?

        • As he states if you read his comment, he was annoyed at MWB’s never ending popups.

          • @BatmanAU: Yeah so uninstall it…

            • @TheJoker: Yeah and leave your device unprotected, oh wait…

              • @BatmanAU: How is that leaving it unprotected? Windows security is enough these days.

              • @BatmanAU: It doesn't have behavioural antivirus.
i.e it's the same as Defender unless their signature database is updated significantly faster

          Batman vs Joker

I've got the paid mwb, does BD block known dirty IPs? Comes in handy with uTorrent even if I'm still using a VPN.
My paid MB is in Brazil I never pay much for it when renewal comes around.

Do you know how uncommon that is though?

    Costs more than double

The website says can be activated and supported in Indian region only. Do we need VPN to activate it for the first time?

  • +3

Thanks, I did 3 devices for 3 years for $1002 INR $18.40 AUD - I did it without VPN and paid via Wise in Rupees but like you said it gave the option for AUD. Then activated the code they sent me on another account but logged in with Indian VPN before I activated it.

Found a random Indian address via Google maps for sign up.

    Worked fine.

    • which vpn are you using for india?

    Normal price on Amazon.in ₹1,899.

Found the 3 device 3 years to be great value at ₹889

How did you change currency to AUD? Cant find it on check out.

Found it. When you enter your credit card details, theres the option to pay using AUD

What is wrong with Windows Security even without common sense?

    • -1

Nothing. OP doesn't really know what he's talking about

      • Which part exactly? That Bitdefender has better detection rate than Windows security?

        • Yes that part. It's equal according to av-test.org. making this deal mostly worthless

Microsoft's real-time protection engine is weaker than third-party solutions as it mostly relies on the cloud and signature detections.
Running a novel, brand new malware sample is much more likely to execute on Windows Defender than on Kaspersky or Bitdefender.

  • You really don't need this stuff. The only thing I have on top of Windows Security is the AdGuard agent.

  • Op convert your old machine to Linux mint…

You need to connect to vpn if you have an old Bitdefender account setup for au. Its only required for adding the activation code.

Third party Antivirus on consumer devices make no sense these days. Windows defender does a good job. These AV companies should just abandon this market and stick to business customers for things like centralised monitoring and endpoint management where they really add value.

  • Say I need 10 devices, can I buy this twice and have 2x active subscriptions under 1 account?

    • You can choose 10 devices from the dropdown menu.
If you buy 2x5 devices for 2 years, I believe you can still only use it for 5 devices, but for 4 years.

    • I have been running Windows Defender with Malwarebytes for what seems like forever.
    • I don't run any cracked software on my PC (anymore) and always try pay for software (except for Adobe, screw you Adobe, GenP for the win)
    • I'm working on a project atm where we're in the process of migrating a client over from Windows 7 Pro, Windows 10 Pro and Windows Server 2008/12 to Windows 11 and Server 2025 respectively.
    • On Easter Monday at 4am that client was successfully hacked with .wait uTox Ransomware - https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/17605-dot-waiting-rans…
    • Within a few hours all the Windows 7 Pro PCs, 2x Windows 10 Pro machines (that didn't get their security updates), the domain controller, file server and multiple other servers were infected with ransomware. It took us a bit of time to isolate all the infected machines. It was a terrible experience as an IT Admin but it highlights the importance of security.
    • Yes these machines were running old versions of windows but 2x Windows 10 computers still got hacked. The hackers turned off Defender on the machines after giving themselves Domain Admin access and adding themselves as a RDP users.
    • The Windows 11 machines running defender were fine (these also had threatlocker installed)
    • After taking one of the infected machines off the network I ran Hitman Pro and RKill to get rid of the ransomware but all the files were cooked (no decryptor available)
    • I follow the PC Security Channel and it seems like Bitdefender is a little stronger than Windows Defender and Malwarebytes.
    • Just purchased 3 devices for 3 years as a precaution for my own pcs are home
    • Remember always have backups of your data (offline or isolated) as this will save you.
  • FYI I confirmed you need a VPN to activate. Surfshark worked fine. Created a new email and found some fake Indian address details online.

    Thanks OP!
    Worked like a charm

To share and help others to decide

    1. Apparently the deal is about to end… do or do not, don't overthink
    2. I was a bitdefender user and was curious if Bitdefender would create any issue with that… nope, same email/account and just "welcomed me back" already knowing my devices, and things I even had to go and clear up as it's no longer relevant.
    3. I used one of these "randomaddress" website with Indian address and phone number
    4. I used Wise, and you pay in AUD to Wise an Wise pay them in Rupee
    5. Took a bit to get the license. But it was confirmed my purchased was valid, identified and etc in less than 8h.
    6. I used their download link to get my installation file, although it looked a bit sketchy…
    7. With the activation code on my email, then I connected using a sysmte VPN (not a browser extension) and used an Indian server. It didn't complain.

It's now properly activated on the official BitDefender website… so it's all legit and good.
