Not everyone is as privileged as you to hold an Apple device, oh leige!
I wouldn't call owning an iPhone privileged. 😅
You would have to wonder why they couldn’t be arsed to also do CarPlay. I don’t think it needs additional hardware.
Anyways, anyone used this and is it laggy? There are versions that do both, but if I recall, it was a lesser experience for Android as AA ran as an emulated layer via the Carplay integration.
So if you're primarily using AA the best experience is with a dedicated AA unit.
Can confirm.
Got one a month ago without realising, and eventually got it working by plugging it into the USB port that handles iphone/ipods (Pioneer head unit) and it worked, but buggy and would keep "refreshing" the screen randomly. Also picture quality was not quite as sharp as wired.
Just got a dedicated AA unit and it works so much better and smoother.
Hmm, so blended families have different experiences even if getting one that does both? There must be other brands that is not the case.
I bought 1 yesterday, the pro
coping with apple huh lmao
Thriving with Apple.
I've had mine for a couple of years and can hardly fault it. Only gripe would be it's a bit slow to connect.
How slow is slow? Does it more than minute to connect?
I've never timed it, but maybe 30-60secs from when I start the car?
I wouldn't say more than a minute.
That's a big fault for me tbh
@MS Paint: I don't start driving until I put on the GPS and now I gotta wait up to a minute just for it to load?
Is it close to what the description says? 10 secs is bearable vs mucking around with a cable
It's going to be more than 10 seconds in my experience. ~30 seconds is what I would say.
It takes less than 30 seconds for me. So by the time I've got the car on, buckled up and pulled out, it's up and running. It's a non-issue.
You can actually login to the web UI on these and change the connection time. They’re set conservatively. You can be more aggressive with it. Works great.
Can anyone explain how this differs from the little USB one I have now? Seems to connect fine wirelessly
What's the little USB one you have? Would you recommend it?
Copy paste from what i wrote elsewhere:
I paid $14 for one on ali with one of their "bundle deals". Looks to be about $20 by itself. https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005007893488023.html
Just arrived today so i cant comment on longevity but seems to work perfectly and connects in about 10 seconds.
Its a big one
Thanks for clearing that up!
I think a comparison of this one:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/902398
versus this (and considering the Ali. price for both)
Great price OP!
Thank you!
Can anyone confirm this works with later model Toyotas?
Does your car have Android Auto? If it does it should work.
Note, this doesn't bring Andriod Auto to cars that don't have it. It just acts as a bridge to convert a wired AA connection to wireless.
Yes it does but it's a 2025 corolla. A lot of comments on the other thread for the carlinkit kitb saying >2023 corollas don't seem to work as Toyota have done something to block these devices.
Ther was a comment about Not working with RAV4 , see below
But you can return within 30 days if you have Prime Membership"Not compatible with RAV4 2024
Reviewed in Australia on 3 March 2025
Unable to establish Android Auto with RAV4 2024 infosystem. It would appear this device does not support 2GHz WiFi band and RAV4 doe snot have 5GHz WiFi built-in, if this matters. Nevertheless, No connection to RAV4. Phone is OK.:I have a 2020 RAV4 and it works.
It's just an adapter that plugs into the USB port of the car and creates a Wi-Fi network for your phone to connect to so that comment doesn't make sense.
Overall it is better than a cable but it does take up to 30 seconds to connect sometimes and chews through the battery on my phone.
I have this adapter and it's pretty good and great value at this price.
There was an ozbargain for this:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/898705The CarlinKit Mini5Pro. It connects around the same speed as my wired Android Auto (about a minute from car start, because my car is stupid and won't connect until a little bit).
the CarlinKit is smaller and supports Apple Carplay as well; so it seems like this alternate product is better in every way.
I got this one. No complaints from me, seems to connect in under 30sec and is very small.
Also got this one, it connects pretty quickly usually, there have been a few times where I get impatient and unplug and replug the device and it connects in a few seconds again. Gone are the days of hitting a pothole and knocking out the Android Auto connection despite the cable never coming out
Got one. Very flaky on an mg4. Sticked to wired connection and far more stable.
I wouldn't touch that thing. That's a broken USB port waiting to happen.
Grabbed a similar one from vinnies for $6 , been using it for a month without any problems
New to this setup,
I have a 2016 BMW 330i which does not have a wired carplay option.
Would this thing be useful?Would this thing be useful?
This is an Android Auto device. It doesn't have anything to do with carplay.
No, this just means that if your car has wired Android Auto, plugging this in means you won't need to plug your phone into your car for Android Auto to work.
This won't do wireless CarPlay, which is Apple. Android Auto is Android.
This also won't unlock Android Auto in your car if you didn't already have it.
Thanks for the clarification!
Cheers
i got the carlinkit mini 5 se and it seems to be really patchy about the initial connection. anyone have that and have any tips? otherwise might get this one
I also have the same as yours and most of the time I get disconnected specially when in a traffic jam. Maybe due to signal interference from other cars? Not sure but not happy with the product so far
I thought it was something made by Bank of Melbourne
this looks huge, the one i have is the size of a USB stick and connects in no more than 10 seconds - got it from ali express for same price
Link?

Does it have a switch to change between Android and Apple?
You don't need a switch, it connects to whichever phone is connected to your car's Bluetooth. Your can set which phone has priority if there is more than one, in your car's Bluetooth settings.
How do you connect this up to your phone? wifi connection? BT?
These can be handy but a wired connection is a bit more reliable and charges the phone also
I got my Wireless connector because my car doesn't provide enough charge and slowly dissipates. Now I have a separate charger with enough amperage and connect wireless and it's great. And if I'm having a short trip or not worried about my phone battery level, I don't have to think about it.
Reliability? I 'reliably' forget to plug the thing in until i've already started driving!
Other than the above my pixel doesn't seem to like the wired connection for some reason. Keeps pausing an unpausing whatever is playing at random. Seems on on wireless.
I've been using an AliExpress wireless AA device for a while now. Whilst my phone was quite happy working AA cabled, the wireless experience is very different.
If the mobile signal drops out (were a little bit in the sticks here), the phone promptly drops out the wireless AA connection. When the phone gets valid mobile data again, wireless AA reconnects.
There's one or two alleged cures on t'internets but nothing works thus far.
Delivered yesterday and works with pioneer unit withou any issues.
I got this and can confirm it does not work with SonyXAV5000
