What coupon do you mean?
Maybe theyre refereing to the $10 for joining JB Perks.
Good deal!
I just got deluxe and did my first batch. Amazingly creamy texture ice cream. Seems very forgiving as i just did cottage cheese/protein yoghurt and milk base and it turned out great and healthy!
I probably would have got the standard if it was this price when i bought deluxe!
Is it easy to make ?
Very, you add ingredients to the tub then freeze, takes 2 mins in the machine.
How long does the tub/ingredients need to be frozen for before the machine can be used?
They recommend freezing for 24 hours
Ive done it after 10 hrs, depends on your freezer i suppose. We have a deep freeze we use.
Yeah super, for me I like healthier options and I literally put 250ml milk and a scoop of protein powder and the next day I have vanilla ice cream and mix in wafers or oreos
What's in the protein powder…?
Protein
powder
rotein powde
Is the NC501 worth the extra $$
I've heard it uses higher quality parts and has a bigger tub which is the main reason I haven't purchased the basic model.
I'm not even going to buy the deluxe model as I've heard of certain issues with things shearing off and breaking it you don't use the device perfectly.
I'm going to wait for the soft serve version to come to Australia and hope its even better made then the Deluxe.
The bigger tub can be a negative for freezer storage and depending on how many people are going to be eating and/or how big your appetite is
yes
Deluxe is not so noisy, more programs like frozen youghurt and all the drinkable, shows remaing minutes, pints are 24 vs 16 Oz. but the max content you can put in the pint for freezing is just over half.
Just used my deluxe for first time and agree it is not as noisy as expected from reviews. My vitamix is way noisier.
The concept of a pint not being a pint is so ludicrous to me. Except people are stupid enough to run with it, which makes it appalling more so than just ludicrous.
A UK pint is 568ml, and a US pint is 16 Oz. That's it.
It's a fine product.
The best secret I've found is to add a teaspoon of vegetable glycerine to each pint.
The glycerine makes it way less icy and means you can usually scoop it straight out of the pint rather than having to remix it every time.
Is that similar to xanthan gum? Have been told to add that. Without it gets super icy (making protein ice cream), but if I do add it the bottom of the tub turns to mucus and a horrible texture to try and eat.
I find that adding about 5g Cottees Instant Vanilla pudding mix does the same job without any weird textures. That said, I use full fat milk so it's not that icy without it.
not sure. i haven't used xanthan.
buying the glycerine is a bit wierd because it's also used in many non-food uses but mine literally says "non-toxic" on the bottle, so you know it's good :)
my Dettol Multipurpose Cleaner Citrus Lemon Lime Spray also says "non-toxic"
Guar gum is meant to be better.
The official recipe book doesn't include either though. Sometimes they recommend cream cheese, other times nothing. So definitely not essential.
Xantham can be used as a thickener to improve texture.
Guar gum is a better thickener for frozen goods, but harder to find.
Both are pretty rough on the stomach, in anything more than a micro-quantity.
I prefer just using collagen (unflavoured). Otherwise, the pudding-mixes work well too (modified cornstarch).
Vegetable glycerin is fine also.
Does that mean you don't even need to "cream" it? So you can make ice cream just by freezing or the initial spin is still required?
No, you still have to do the initial spin.
Often, but not always, you will have to re-spin it when you want to have some more ice cream the next day.
The glycerine fixes that issue.
edit: re-spin
I use condensed milk instead of sugar. makes it super smooth and creamy.
Beware. These are extremely noisy!
you should get the cover like at boost juice
Is that what they are for!
probably to prevent juice explosion and then the noise
I found my vitamix to be way louder. Deluxe almost seems quiet in comparison
This doesn't even have a compressor! How is this even a deal?
its actually not a "ice cream maker"
but a mixer / blender that turn frozen content into creamy
it use a special blade that put down from top to bottom to create the creamy texture
this is a pretty good review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0K48ZQES7U&t=1314s
Then it shouldn't be called an "ice cream maker"
If it is used to make "ice cream", then calling it an "ice cream maker" isn't much of a stretch
will they likely released a model with compressor?
feels overpriced for essentially a specialized blender
and more work to freeze ingredients 24 hrs prior..
many people want to make their frozen desert now .. not 24 hrs later
I got a ice cream maker with compressor and it does takes around 1 hour to freeze
this one on the otherhand, takes 24 hours to freeze, then take 4minutes to blend
so unless you need to have it done on the same day, both are still time consuming in some ways
one of the advantage of this one (ninja) is you can prepare multiple tubs (multiple flavours) and freeze them at the same time
then just blend them when you need
while a ice cream maker with compressor can only make 1 tub at a time (1 flavour)
1 hour to freeze this one on the otherhand, takes 24 hours to freeze, then take 4minutes to blend
so unless you need to have it done on the same day, both are still time consuming in some ways
that is a huge difference 1 hr vs 24 hrs..
when people want to make ice cream,
then can go buy ingredient or bought it already,
and make it NOW and wait 1 hr to immediately eat it..
Usually they want to eat on the same they they want to make it.
24hrs is a longer time to wait..
and you need to planned what time you put in the freezer so it suits you 24hrs later to make it..
which you don't know if tomorrow you would have same free time to make it at that same time tomorrow..
OR they might even forget to make it tomorrow at same time…
one of the advantage of this one (ninja) is you can prepare multiple tubs (multiple flavours) and freeze them at the same time
then just blend them when you need
many people's fridge/freeze can most likely can fit one ice cream tub (along with all other the frozen items they got) so unlike to be making mutliple tubs..
Also how many ice cream tubs are people actually eating?
Most just want to eat one tub at a time.
while a ice cream maker with compressor can only make 1 tub at a time (1 flavour)
with the compressor if you want, you can still make more than 1 tub / flavor, just wait 1 hr for the next tub.. vs 24hrs for everything..
AND also people can combine flavours + mixes e.g. fruit etc in one tub.. ie mix and match which is what many may do
and scoop it all in one tub after it is finished..
how many tubs are most people gonna make?
Most people are just gonna make 1 tub and if they really want something different, combine flavours / mixed in 1 tub..
and for a few others maybe 2 or 3 tubs at most.. that is like 2 to 3 hrs..
@pinkybrain: there's no right or wrong answer here as every one's lifestyle can be different
for me, i got both machines and have use them in different use case
I use the ice cream with compressor when the kids want to participant in making ice cream
letting them to put ingredients into mixer, then pour into the maker and see them transform to ice cream
(I still need to first use a separate blender to blend ingredients such as fruits, nuts etc)
I use the ninja creami for regular ice cream / sorbent making
especially having one of the kid with dairy allergy who cannot have regular ice cream
given said them, no matter which machine i use
I do need to prepare all the ingredients before hand
so for me its unlikely that I suddenly want to make icecream now
I will normally get ingredients from supermarket (eg. thicken cream, fruits etc) at least the day before anyway
there's no right or wrong answer here as every one's lifestyle can be different
for me, i got both machines and have use them in different use case
yes, didn't say there is right or wrong answer..
I am just saying that people who bought this machine and making justification that this machine (overpriced specialized blender)
is the right price vs a model with compressor which maybe cheaper is ridiculous
and also justifying that 24 hrs wait is similar to 1 hr is also ridiculous
I do need to prepare all the ingredients before hand
so for me its unlikely that I suddenly want to make icecream now
yes, but the point I am making is there is more pre planning / thought and more work required with this machine vs getting one with compressor…
As I said
1) you need clean and prepare the tubs for the ingredients to freeze
2) freeze it AND
-planned what time you put in the freezer so it suits you 24hrs later to make it..
which you don't know if tomorrow you would have same free time to make it at that same time tomorrow..
3) 24hrs later, If you remembered and have free time at this same time, now need to scoop all these harden frozen ingredients into the machine and make it..
4) probably need to clean those tubs too since the leftover cream or whatever has melted inside the tub..
VS
-If want to eat ice cream today, go buy ingredients or if you already bought it prior, prepare and make it today and wait 1 hr later
-no need to prepare and clean any tubs to freeze, just pour the ingredients into the compressor out of the packaging.
-no need wait 24 hrs later
-no need to scoop frozen harden ingredients in the tub into the machine
-no need to again clean those tubs etc..
Imagine this was masterchef and the contestants had to use one these Ninja machines to make their ice cream..
that would be ridiculous
@pinkybrain: Different take on the compressor.
If i had to wait 1.5hrs from 'wanting' ice cream to eating it, i wouldnt bother.
Its practically the same as preparing it beforehand for the creami ie. Before you know you 'want' icecream.
At least with the creami you know you can have icecream in 3-4 mins.
If i had to wait 1.5hrs from 'wanting' ice cream to eating it, i wouldnt bother.
No you make it, then leave it churn and do other things,
you would not even be thinking about it, then when it beeps, you got ice cream you can eat.
And it is not 1.5hrs,
from what I seen, time is like 45 mins to 1hr..
Its practically the same as preparing it beforehand for the creami ie. Before you know you 'want' icecream.
No it is NOT practically the same..
You have a desire to eat homemade ice cream NOW..
you go buy the ingredients or if you already had bought the ingredients..
Take ingredients out and prep it, pour into compressor set to churn for 1 hr..
Go do something else for 1 hr, then 1hr later when it beeps or whatever, then eat the ice cream…
At least with the creami you know you can have icecream in 3-4 mins.
Not the same, the desire / thought to make/eat ice cream, requires you to go to the store..
buy items, prep items and freeze it..
then hold off on that desire for 24 hrs, and also make sure 24 hrs later you got free time at that same time to make the ice cream
Maybe 24 hrs later, you might have other commitments (so you can't make it)
OR forget to even make it…
OR 24 hrs later you may no longer have a desire to make or eat ice cream anymore
This is like being HUNGRY NOW,
-buying the food,
-prepping the food,
-and waiting 24hrs before you can cook the food to fill your hungry belly..
VS
-buying the food,
-prepping the food,
-cook the food and after 1 hr of cook time, eat the food to fill your hungry belly etc.
So what you are saying as them being practically the same is NOT practically the same
and what you are saying is ridiculous.
Blenders do get pricey too, compared to the pacojet the creami is a steal, although I wish it was made more sturdy. Hopefully as more players enter the price will come down.
I don't agree with the more work bit, I find it less work as I make it in bulk in 1 go. So at anytime I would have 5 or more flavours to choose from. Even with a compressor ice cream maker, the whole process from making the base to resulting ice cream would take 1-4 hours depending on the recipe.
I don't agree with the more work bit, I find it less work as I make it in bulk in 1 go
it is more work because you need to prepare all the tubs, put/mix the ingredients in those tubs and freeze it..
think what time is suitable to freeze now that 24hrs later you would have same free time (which may change tomorrow ie not have same free time tomorrow)..
then tomorrow 24hrs later, if you remembered and have free time at this same time, take those frozen ingredients out..
Now the frozen ingredients is hard, so you need to use more effort to scoop those frozen ingredients out of those tubs and into this machine..
You are probably going to need to clean those tubs that had frozen ingredients in it prior to scooping the new ice cream into it since the tubs would be have melted leftover cream or whatever inside the tubs..
So yes it is more work and effort.
ALSO as I said, when people want to make and eat ice cream, they want to do it now, on same day,
not wait 24 hrs later..
So this is just an overpriced specialized blender,
and I think Ninja will likely eventually released a model with compressor,
since there are many models with compressor that is sold cheaper than this..
@pinkybrain: It's really not that hard haha. We make a milk/cream/sugar base, enough for 3 tubs worth and then mix in a couple simple different things to each one to change the flavour e.g. some chocolate protein powder or vanilla essence. Then we're set with ice cream for the next week or two with a quick spin required.
Probs would be more effort for us to make 1 tub at a time when we feel like it and wait 1 hour. Much prefer this "meal prep" kind of method. But yeah there's no wrong option, all lifestyle preference.
@pinkybrain: You don't scoop anything out. The prepared tubs go straight into the machine. They can stay in the freezer for months if you like. Many people have multiple tubs prepared and they take them out when needed. 5 minutes later you have ice cream.
it is more work because you need to prepare all the tubs, put/mix the ingredients in those tubs and freeze it..
Now the frozen ingredients is hard, so you need to use more effort to scoop those frozen ingredients out of those tubs and into this machine..
I don't think you understand how this machine works - You freeze the ingredients in the same tub that you then put in the machine to blend it.
So yes it is more work and effort.
The actual work involved can be VERY minimal depending on what you are making - much less than required by a compressor-based ice cream maker.
You can literally just dump a can of tinned fruit in the Ninja tub, freeze it, and then turn that into a frozen fruit sorbet type dessert.
For a compressor-based machine, you would have to ensure the tinned fruit is blended and smooth and then consider all the additional washing of the blender, etc.
This also ties into the idea that the Ninja can be used to make "ice creams" or frozen desserts that would not be possible in a regular compressor-based machine. Compressor-based machines typically need a minimum fat and/or sugar content and the right level of viscosity. The Ninja can make lower fat and thinner mixtures into an "ice cream" or frozen dessert which is great for people on specific diets or trying to minimise calorie intake. The two types of machines have some similarities, but they also have different use scenarios.
ALSO as I said, when people want to make and eat ice cream, they want to do it now, on same day,
not wait 24 hrs later..
I would suggest most people have the ability to plan ahead a little.
Even making ice cream "same day" requires planning ahead by at least a few hours.
Additionally, some compressor-based ice cream makers I have used suggest chilling the ingredients for a few hours before trying to churn them in the machine and/or freezing the product after the churning process to firm it up fully.
This is also much more convenient if you have a larger group of people since you can make far larger quantities in much shorter time.
E.g. Waiting 3 x 2 minutes (or even 3 x 4 minutes) for three batches of ice cream would be tolerable for most people, waiting 3 x 1hr (some compressor-based take longer) would not be reasonable for most people.
@pinkybrain: Not the sound harsh but you sound like someone who knows nothing about the machine or ice cream making.
Have you made ice cream before?
Your comments don't reflect reality, if you have personal experience on ice cream making and the machine you used please do share, but giving these anecdotal comments doesn't help.
It's a copy if a pacojet, which is thousands of $. It's nothing like a blender mixer. It slices frozen mixtures in a particular way to generate texture resembling churned ice cream. Many "ice cream" makers don't have compressors but use frozen bowls, so the compressor comment is irrelevant. I use a compressor ice cream maker and then the creami after freezing my ice cream for the texture.
Many "ice cream" makers don't have compressors but use frozen bowls, so the compressor comment is irrelevant.
no it is not, cos I was talking about machines that has a compressor..
no one is referring to frozen bowls here.. so your comment is irrelevant
You seem to be justifying your own personal preference. Do whatever you like. But you're also misunderstanding how this works and why people like it. I have both a modified Breville compressor ice cream maker and this device. I use both, often making the initial ice cream using the compressor and this machine to create texture.
You seem to be justifying your own personal preference.
LOL, no..
you people who own this machine are justifying your expensive overpriced blender
so that you feel it was a good purchase rather than just an overpriced blender..
I don't own either so there is no justifying of anything
there is nothing for me to lose or gain if compressor or this machine is better…
Essentially I am just asking why this machine is so much better than ones with compressor that is sold cheaper
and people who are answering are giving stupid ridiculous answers
People who bought this machine do have something to lose that is why they are justifying their purchase..
People who own this are justifying that
-24hrs wait is same as 1 hr wait
-prepping ingredients before hand (preparing the tubs) is same work as immediately putting all ingredients from package into compressor etc..
-talking about compressors when they are not actually compressors but just frozen bowls (nobody said that except for you)
But you're also misunderstanding how this works and why people like it
Nope … you people have said the process and how it works and it just looks like more work and wait time..
Is it not more efficient to 'meal prep' multiple flavours at once?
You can 'meal prep' multiple flavours at once in either machines..
if that is what you want
The difference is one needs to wait 24 hrs before you can cook it
the other you don't
@pinkybrain: "I don't own either so there is no justifying of anything"
Ok, now it makes sense why you sound like you know nothing.
Ok, now it makes sense why you sound like you know nothing.
No you are one that is justifying your expensive blender/churner.. and making dumb justification as to why it is better than one with a compressor.
This machine is not a space rocket or some hard to understand concept machine..
This machine is essentially a blender/churner that you put frozen cream into, and you churn for 3 to 4 minutes
WHILE
the ice cream compressor, you put unfrozen cream into and it churns while it freezes the cream..
NOT that hard to understand..
So don't make it out like you KNOW something more than that.
You can't even technically call this an ice cream maker..
It is just a churner / blender..
and if you churn it for too long, you end up with a liquid
@pinkybrain: I never said it is better than a compressor machine, I was just describing the workflow, these are 2 different machines and favour different workflow, both machines have their use case.
You can call it a glorified blender/churner all you want but tell me of another machine that can do what it does apart from the pacojet, I wish there were more makers of this type of machines, there are gripes I have with the build quality but no one else makes one unless I have 10k to burn on a pacojet.
You could say get a compressor machine but that doesn't work for my use case.
What else would you call it, a frozen thingy blender/churner? It makes ice cream so an ice cream maker isn't technically wrong.
We can agree to disagree, but as someone who doesn't make ice cream with either machines, you came across as ignorant.
@ozlurker: They are ignorant. Same crap spouted on any ninja creami deal. Absolutely no one cares if they want there ice cream NOW (stamps foot) then waits an hour for it 🤣
@pinkybrain: You should reflect on how much time and how many words you've spent today arguing about an ice cream maker on ozbargain. And then hopefully have some shame 🤣
How many of these ninja creami deals have you jumped on to complain its not a compressor? You seem salty AF like you bought a crappy compressor unit 🤣
Love my Creami, I'd be included to go deluxe. Pair it with aftermarket Pints from amazon and you are sorted. Even my kids eat my Oat milk based vegan icecream 🤣
can you share your oat milk based vegan icecream recipe?
got a kid at home with dairy allergy :)
Is oat better than almond
I had this machine and sold it. I believe the blade cuts into the actual tub and releases plastic particles. Believe me im not a tin foil hat guy but it was quite obvious after a few weeks of use. The charm faded quickly especially how loud the machine is. If you're a heavy ice cream eater this might be for you!
My thought as well. I really want one but afraid that I will get bored of it pretty quickly
That can happen if you don't follow directions and the mixture is frozen improperly - the blade gets knocked and hits the wall. Has been posted about on reddit several times. Hasn't happened to my mixtures.
mixture is frozen improperly
LOL, how to do you freeze mixture properly?
If the mixture is frozen slanted or your ingredients don't include enough fats or solids or your freezer is too cold. Read posts on this elsewhere if you're truly interested not just here to argue against this product that you don't like.
If the mixture is frozen slanted or your ingredients don't include enough fats or solids or your freezer is too cold.
So even more work, prep and concern about the right ratio of fats, solids and freezer needs to be right temp..
This was not even mention as being part of the prep in the above comments…
Read posts on this elsewhere if you're truly interested
Why read elsewhere?
People here who bought it can tell us if they want to..
not just here to argue against this product that you don't like.
Did not say I hate it..
Just saying that this machine would be better if they released a new model with a compressor (go read my first comment)
and saying that people who are justifying the machine as being better than actual ice cream maker with compressor is riddiculous..
If Ninja released a new model with compressor..
So you telling me you would not sell this machine and get the new ninja model with a compressor?
Technically you can't / should not be calling this an ice cream maker since it is not freezing anything.
This is just a specialized blender / churner of the already frozen "ice cream"
This is in the same category as a blender but just with a specialized blade for churning.
Majority of people/cook/chef etc who actually make homemade ice cream, buys machines with a compressor and not this machine…
e.g.

Are you sure that video furthers your numerous arguments above about compressors being more "instant"?
She is literally saying she needs to freeze it overnight AFTER churning to finish the process ;-)
Are you sure that video furthers your numerous arguments above about compressors being more "instant" - She is literally saying she needs to freeze it overnight to finish the process ;-)
No that is what she wants to do if she if wanted the ice cream to be more frozen/solid ice cream..
In the video you can see that it can be serve as soft serve ice cream, like McDonalds..
You can eat it instantly as soft serve ice cream
or if you want it more solid, you can put it in freezer for 30 mins to 1hr whatever to harden it more…
which would be good enough to eat as ice cream on same day..
It is still more instant/faster than waiting 24hrs from when you wanting to eat ice cream and when you actual get your ice cream
So yes it is instant, if you want to eat soft serve ice cream..
if you want it be more solid then leave it in the churner longer or freeze for 30 mins etc..
And what the hell you talking about?
Are you not going to also freeze the ice cream that you churn from this Ninja machine if you want it be more solid?
The Ninja machine can't even be technically be called an Ice cream maker, since it does not have a compressor to freeze the cream while it churns..
It is just an expensive churner / blender, which you need to put frozen cream into it..
And if you keep churning for too long (longer than 3 to 4 minutes) you would end up with liquid cream…
And it is true, majority of people/cook/chef etc who actually make homemade ice cream would buy/own the ice cream machine with compressor rather than this simple overpriced blender / churner..
Let's look it another way, if Ninja released a new model with compressor, wouldn't you buy that model and sell this machine?
Let's look it another way, if Ninja released a new model with compressor, wouldn't you buy that model and sell this machine?
Personally, no, I wouldn’t buy a compressor-based Ninja Creami anytime soon. I already own several compressor models, and frankly, a version with a built-in compressor would completely defeat the purpose of how the Creami works.
The Ninja Creami is inspired by the Pacojet, a commercial-grade, $7,000+ kitchen device used in fine dining restaurants with budgets far greater than the average consumer. So, despite what you assert, chefs do use this tech. Just not the kind of chef you’re picturing, apparently. But I guess you'd call the Pacojet “just a blender,” too?
And to be frank, while they are great in some contexts, in my experience, compressor-based machines typically come with more prep, and more cleanup than my typical Ninja Creami dessert. With a consumer-oriented compressor, you’re not just dumping in ingredients, turning it on, and magically getting perfect scoopable ice cream, there’s often still preparing and chilling the base (possibly overnight), plus churn time, and then often more freezing to get scoopable ice cream. The Ninja Creami, on the other hand, gives me scoopable frozen desserts almost immediately (2-5 minutes) - way faster than a compressor-based machine and in numerous recipes you literally can just dump the whole ingredients in the tub and freeze it.
Even making ice cream "same day" with a compressor requires planning ahead by at least a few hours. For many, the convenience of being able to prepare multiple tubs of ice cream ahead of time outweighs the idea of getting it ready in an hour or two from start to finish EACH time.
You are also overlooking the convenience of being able to prep multiple tubs ahead of time and then use them either one at a time, as required, or all at once for a larger group of people. Most people won't want to wait 3 x 1 hour for three batches and/or run 3 x compressor machines at once.
It is still more instant/faster than waiting 24hrs from when you wanting to eat ice cream and when you actual get your ice cream
You seem really hung up on this idea of a 24-hour pre-freeze as some kind of catastrophic flaw, but that doesn’t mean it is a deal breaker for everyone. It may be a shock to you, but plenty of people don't have an issue with planning ahead. Many people even buy ready-made ice cream ahead of time and freeze it until they want it, myself included. If planning ahead by one day feels like too much, clearly home ice cream making isn’t for you. If instant gratification is that essential, you’re probably better off just buying a tub from the store and eating it then and there.
And what the hell you talking about?
Are you not going to also freeze the ice cream that you churn from this Ninja machine if you want it be more solid?
This just shows you haven’t used the Creami. The frozen base is finely shaved and reconstituted during the spin, which results in a far more scoopable texture than what you usually get from consumer compressor-based models. That’s part of its appeal, you get scoop-ready results almost instantly, without additional freezing. But again, you'd only know that by actually using one.
From a comment of yours above:
it is more work because you need to prepare all the tubs, put/mix the ingredients in those tubs and freeze it..
think what time is suitable to freeze now that 24hrs later you would have same free time (which may change tomorrow ie not have same free time tomorrow)..
then tomorrow 24hrs later, if you remembered and have free time at this same time, take those frozen ingredients out..
You clearly haven't even looked into how this machine works if you think you need "to scoop those frozen ingredients out of those tubs and into this machine". You don’t scoop anything out of the tubs, the entire point is that the frozen tub goes directly into the Creami. No scooping required, no transfer mess, You spin the frozen contents inside the tub itself.
And if I read this correctly: "think what time is suitable to freeze now that 24hrs later you would have same free time" it seems like you are thinking you need to take it out exactly 24 hours later (or as close as possible). You can literally freeze it days or even weeks ahead. 24 hours is the suggested MINIMUM time. You can think of it just like store bought ice cream, you buy it ahead of time and eat it when you feel like it.
It’s quite hilarious that someone who, by their own admission, doesn’t own either type of machine is confidently lecturing people who do own and use both on how they work. Bold move. 😉
Anyway, I think everyone gets that this product is not for you…
had for 6 months and no issues with this. There's a lot of discussion online about it. Seems that if you don't flatten the top of the icecream the blade can get put off balance and scrape the sides.
We always flatten and yeah had no issues.
Seems that if you don't flatten the top of the icecream the blade can get put off balance and scrape the sides.
wow that sucks that you need to be so careful in prep to not cause damage to the blade
and possibly eating plastic particles..
I wouldn't say we need to be that careful.. it's just a simple instruction thats part of the process. We're not there using a level to make sure its perfectly flat haha. You just scrape a bit off the top easy done.
@Icy12: Agreed, it is just a simple condition of use, not a major drama.
Incidentally, compressor paddles/blades (and even the motor) can also be damaged from incorrect mixture viscosity and fat/sugar ratios which can cause the mixture to freeze or seize up.
Incidentally, compressor paddles/blades (and even the motor) can also be damaged from incorrect mixture viscosity and fat/sugar ratios which can cause the mixture to freeze or seize up.
Yeah but if it does occur, at least you would not be eating bits of plastic..
Also
Odds of this occurring and the blade being damage due to this is less though
since you are pouring a liquid which slowly becomes more solid as it is churn..
but not solid enough like ice etc..
Whereas with the ninja you are essentially put in a solid block of cream
which the blade has to work through..
This is much more stress on the blades
Yeah but if it does occur, at least you would not be eating bits of plastic..
The paddle is plastic in every model I have used, and I can say from direct experience that CAN occur.

Yeah sure it can occur,
just saying the odds of it occurring is lower since as I said
-a liquid which slowly becomes more solid as it is churn
VS
-a hard solid block of frozen cream..
The motor would have to work harder to spin/churn through the hard frozen cream vs a cream that slowly freezes while it churns..
alternatively just use a good 'no churn' icecream recipe
I've noticed many of the ninja creami recipes are no churn recipes essentially fake ice cream when you use stuff like condensed milk which has always been no 1 ingredient in no churn recipes
no doubt, if people are buying to make 'healthier' ice cream fine, if people want to make no hassle ice cream without a machine then condensed milk is a great ingredient. IMO it's still better for you than the mountain of crap in store bought ice cream, can be as simple as pureed fruit, cream & condensed milk
I once tried the Nigella no churn coffee ice cream, didn't quite like it but maybe because I didn't whip the cream enough. Had a fatty sort of mouth feel. Might need to try again.
But yeah if I'm spending all this money on an ice cream machine I don't want to be using condensed milk.
Just beware there is a brand new version of this which pushes the tub with a piston and effectivley makes soft serve. These old creami's will probably get cheaper. or you may want the new model which is yet to be released in AUS.
weird that they still not released a model with compressor (for people who want one)..
it is not that hard to make, many companies have released compressor models.
It's almost as if they released the ninja creami as an alternative to compressor based ice cream makers.
