5-star Japan Airlines, a perennial favourite for flights to Japan, has some great prices to many of the major cities in Japan, some direct, some via Tokyo.

All flights include luggage, movies, food etc ;)

Note: Some flights may be codeshare flights operated by JAL's partner airlines - I've tried to weed them out but use the site's filters if you need to specify.

The cheapest days seem to differ for each city but I can only search a few thousand combinations in my limited time, so have just included some below. There's a good chance cheaper ones exist too, and if I find more I'll update!

Word of warning, this is over Summer where the heat can be unbearably hot.

    • Is it worse than Sydney summers?

      • +1

        Yeah it's pretty humid too

      • +2

I found it very similar to qld summers.

35c, 75%+ humidity. Its a shock when you first get there, but i recon as Aussies we adapt pretty quick.

We're used to semi regular 40c days over summer after all.

        Humidity though is real….

        • I've been to Vietnam and Malaysia, so should relatively be the same if that's the case

      • Aug-Sep 2023 was horrendous - even at night the heat and humidity was heat-stroke inducing - I saw a guy brought beside me fainting while they called for emergency ambulance - I gave him my free flat fan (Japan advertising) only because I had a battery fan in my pocket - and he felt better immediately - but no way Jose do I want to experience that again.

Even Sendai Jazz Festival first week of September milady refused to leave our air-conditioned hotel at night to see night performances as it was so horribly horribly unpleasant - instant sweat, stultifying heat - kill me now stuff.

    Fukuoka $975

    Is that near Fukuyama?

    • +4

why's this negged…? that's an actual city in Japan.

      • +18

        Because he's being a FUK-ing clown.

        • Cracks me up tho. He’s here since 2009 lol

          • +1

            @unhuman:

            He’s here since 2009 lol

            …catching negs

      • You been here for 5 years and you still don't get?

      • +1

that's an actual city in Japan.

Yes, their Rose festival is on in 2 weeks !!!

    • +2

90 min by shinkansen or 5 hours drive

      • thanks

    • Nope

  • +4

Never July nor August. Diablo is roaming. 🔥

    • +1

Even September is crazy hot now.

      • +1

Was there last June, bit tolerable but not for kids, stories got worse july and august came. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

    • Yup made this mistake last time and went over July/August.

I think there may still be pools of my sweat providing the local mosquitoes with some kind of BCAAs to this day.

  • Are there normally deals for October?

    • +1

Maybe end of October when school holidays are over

  • anymore snow season deals?

  • +2

There’s a reason why flights are cheap between this period. Hot and humid, ouch

  • +2

    Any october deals?

    • why do you think these dates are cheap - because the weather is expected to be horrible …

  • Any deals from Adelaide?

  • Are there likely to be any sales to Sapporo around Xmas time, or can I expect to pay full freight because of the time of year?

    • +6

Expect to have very little to no discounted rates for Xmas time.

    • +1

Mid-late Feb is more likely for a good price, no chance for xmas

  • +1

Some Japanese locals are suspecting a massive disaster level earthquake/tsunami in July .. just so you know. I really hope nothing happens though.

If you are going, at least be ready on what to do in emergency case of a natural disaster.

  • +3

Anything before Mid September is brutal weather wise.

  • Is it worth waiting for a possible sale for March/April next year or just bite the bullet at 1250?

  • No matter how cheap the flight is, don't travel to Osaka in summer.

  • Do you do multi-stops or round trip?

  • +2

As somebody who did Japan for the first time last year during July-August, concur with others - the heat/humidity is real. I remember coming back and telling others to never go in summer as it’s brutal. Every t-shirt I wore during my time, I’d sweat through (even ones bought there at Uniqlo). It was so brutal.

But now that I’ve survived, I’m so tempted to go back as it’s so bloody cheap and beautiful. I’ve got 1.5-2 weeks up my sleeve during August and am so tempted :(.

    • and you don't need a swimming costume - you can go for a swim in your own sweat … ! ;-)

  • Any deals in J class?
