Can I ask why you’d be printing photos out while your on holidays and not when you return home?

    • +6

      For fun, really.
Will be visiting/staying with old friends and their parents who will appreciate having physical photos they can hold in their hands and frame.
Saves having to get them printed then posting overseas or having someone else print for them etc.

Will become my home photo printer once i get back. Handy to be able to print one or two pics every now and then rather than waiting to do them in batches at OW.

So you can leave naked picture of yourself overseas

    • It's not necessarily for on the go. I find it quite handy to have one of these just for printing photos to complement a laser black/white printer for printing documents, which both have incredible shelf life for only occasion printing needs, unlike inkjet printers.

    • I saw a write up from a Ricoh griii shooter who travelled with his camera and selphy , printing out photos as he went. The idea actually seemed pretty fun. Take photos during the day, get back to hotel , print out a few snaps while sipping on cocktail

There's a guy on social media who walks around taking photos of random people on the street using his DSLR, throws in some quick edits, and then prints on the CP1500 to give as gifts. Maybe the same person?

        • +2

          Nah it’s not

I think the person you maybe thinking of is the guy on shittok/ instagram under username ‘happy2find’

He shoots with a dslr, edits with an ipad and prints out with selphy

    • A really fun thing to do (for some) on holiday is a 'thought journal'.
It's like… a scrapbook of moments and thoughts you have.

The Instax things are much more suited, but overall, thats why a lot of people want to print on holiday. To share a photo with someone 'now' or to paste the visual along side their thoughts asap.

It's probably a very specific personality type that likes this (guilty :p) but yeah, I find being able to jot down something like….
'Wow, such old cars!' then put a photo of what made me think that, really brings the experience back to life when you revisit it, and helps remind you of things during story telling.

I used one to print passport photos and it was accepted so it was kinda worth it.

A bit expensive when you need to buy ink and paper. I will just go to officeworks to print.

    • +1

I find them better quality than office works/HN.and obviously much more convenient.

I've had mine about a year and absolutely love it. Awesome little printer. Would recommend if you're into printing photos/photography.

    • Selphy prints are much higher quality than office works, kmart and the likes.

How is a 150 dollar printer better than some 10k fuji print lab printer?

        • Interested in the Selphy, but curious about this too, can anyone confirm how it stacks up against Officeworks/Kmart prints?

          • +1

@bsnizzle: I wouldn't agree than they are MUCH higher quality than store prints, but I personally find them marginally better quality from a sharpness perspective but with much more pleasing colours. As someone else said OW etc. can be weirdly hit or miss. The only print I've seen the Selphy do not great is a stark white snow scene with extremely blue sky, got some odd haloing on the people, but still a nice print.

As before, I love my Selphy, my fridge is covered in prints now.

@andyfc: Thanks for the reply - super helpful! Will pick one up :)

No idea but the both sharpness is poor, kmart colour is too red and officeworks is too dark. Also Officeworks is a pita to deal with, my least favourite store experience of all time. I used to own the og selphy and they were awesome.

  • Cheaper than Instax and more versatile.

Purchased one from a recent post on here. Really great for family, social and work events. I have found people love the immediacy and tangibility.

I purchased a cheap (but solid) case for it from AliExpress and I just take it anywhere there is a chance it'll be useful given how small and compact it is.

  • Are the prints glossy like old school photos?

    • My old school photos are very very faded by now. (the ones that I can still find) Yours are holding up better?

      • I'm not asking about how well the ink holds up. I'm asking if they have a glossy finish or matte finish?

        • +1

Glossy. But can also do semi gloss and satin. I unfortunately can't comment on the other two, I only print gloss.

Edit: woops, just saw you found your answer

    • Found my answer here https://cam.start.canon/en/P001/manual/html/UG-07_Reference_…
You can do glossy or satin/semi-gloss.

      • Not a huge difference irl

I kinda prefer the full gloss

  • How big is the picture can someone share it? Reviews do not actually show picture size..

  • +2

Requires a separate relatively chunky power adapter. It's a shame it's not USB C

    • Some people have bought a DC to USB C adapter and found it has worked.

  • Hmm sitting on the fence here. How does the qualiy compare to officeworks level prints? For $200 (printer + 100 prints) i can get at least 1300 prints from the OW

  • Nice! Mother's day gift sorted

  • Set one of these up for a DIY Wedding photobooth with a DSLR. It worked well enough for something DIY.

  • Got it price matched at JB through live chat and they also knocked $5 off the RP-108 paper to make it $39

    • Thanks for the idea. I managed to get it for $150 plus another $10 perks discount.
