BYD sold 322,846 vehicles globally in February, rebounding 8.9% from 296,446 units in January

@soulfuljyl: thanks for the stats ccp bot

              • @[Deactivated]: take your xenophobic traits and go back to Japan, hopefully you can save Nissan and Honda…..just sayin…..
oh wait what caused the crash sales figures of jap autos? hmmmmmmmm lol

                • -2

@soulfuljyl: happily, and you back to China you ccp bot

            • @soulfuljyl: @soulfuljyl @subwoofer
Don't you have some dog to cook?

I saw Xi was in Russia praising Putin for his genocide in Ukraine. No doubt you've got an excuse for that too?

      • +1

Why world anyone want to buy a Chinese made car? Stick to Japanese all the way.

  • +2

115kw for a small SUV is terrible. It's around what the eco hatchbacks get and even they're not sufficiently powered.

    • +5

again it depends on your use cases

a girl at work has a friggin Hyundai Venue with a weak piss 1.6 n/a - she reckons it 'goes ok'

for pensioners going to shops bowl and women its prob. ok

but i mean do the friggin math

115kW 200Nm pushing 1.6 tons - you can have it

take a trip from parra up to blue mountains and work out how shit it is

      • +2

I've done plenty of trips in the base CX-5, including upper Blue Mountains, Mt Ousley, M1 to Gosford. Not once was the power a concern or issue.

  • -2

I just wish they'd change the entertainment system to allow input when driving. I understand it being a safety hazard from the driver, but the passenger should be able to tap the screen. The stupid wheel toggle thing also annoys me.

    • +12

I disagree. The wheel is great, so easy to use instead of touching the screen and it then looking horrible with smudgy fingerprints all over it. YUK! Not to mention the difficulty of pressing the correct buttons while the car is moving. My other car allows this, and I'd much prefer it had a system like Mazda does.

    • Conspire to get Tesla ui designers into mazda. Now you have to touch the screen for the most basic tasks.

    • +1

I think they did that about a year go. The new ones should all have the option to allow touch input while driving.

    • +2

Perhaps it was a software upgrade, on mine on day 1, I enabled touch while driving it works fine with Apple Car Play.
I actually use the dial a lot on the center console.

If you can't find it shout out and I will go and take a look, exactly where.

      • Oh wow that is great to know!

  • +13

IMO for this money and class I'd pick the Honda ZR-V.

Or a mazda 6 wagon with it's 2.5 litre engine for $1500 more.

    • +2

Agreed, I'd pick sleek looking Mazda 6 too, but Isn't Mazda 6 being discontinued here?

    • +8

The 6 is one of the best cars Mazda has ever made.

      • Going to go further and say the Mazda 6 Hatch was one of the best cars. Although in crash tests the sedan was safer.

        • +1

The latest model 3 hatch is also is cracking little car. And in that Mazda metallic red, looks fantastic.

    • +1

I have a 6 sedan and I'd love to get the wagon for the looks and practicality, but I just can't justify the changeover price. Another benefit of the wagon for me, it's a little shorter than the sedan so makes it just that little bit easier to fit into a tight space. e.g. My garage.

      • Shikes, never would have guessed the wagon was shorter than the sedan.
The CX-5 certainly fits in my garage easier than the 6 hatchback. Combined with the extra height far easier to park and for us oldies get in and out. But the 6 is a nice drive.

    • +3

I bought a Mazda 6 Atenza turbo sedan about 9 months ago. Demo with just under 3,000 km. Only paid $45,000 drive away. Incredible car for the money. Old platform but a very good one with multi link rear suspension.

    • +1

Agreed. The ZRV is so underrated. If Honda weren;t so greedy, they should price the base model at 35K driveaway and it would be a top seller. The car is rock solid. Basically a Civic in SUV form and the power is just right, whereas the base model petrol HRV is way way underpowered and even the base model CRV is a tad underpowered for its size. The ZRV is just right.

      • Agree HR-V is a joke with a 1.5 NA engine. Even the previous gen had a 1.8.

        • The hybrid paired with the 1.5 is pretty good for most urban driving. Worth the extra coin.

    • Honda only has a 1.5ltr turbo engine.

      • +1

putting out 20 more kilowatts and more torque than the mazda

    • You might want to consider that XR-V has a CVT instead of a real auto in the Mazda.

  • +12

This model is essentially nine years old.
Underpowered engine, fiddly and frustrating entertainment system, very dated and long in the tooth.
At $30K perhaps worth it, but nearing $40K? Nah. ZR-V or Qashqai is where I'd be looking. Or even a couple of years old used CX-5 and save yourself a bit of money.

    • +1

Yeah but Honda or Nissan with CVT's. Umm, no thanks. I'd take a Mazda with a conventional gearbox over them any day.

    • +3

theres a new cx5 next year right

you're buying a decade old suv really… for $40k once you're insured it and got some floor mats etc.

  • The supply chain is not bad like before but the price will never go back to before.

    • Inflation exists

      • So does corporate greed and opportunistic pricing.

I hope China dumps their cars here and forces these greedy manufacturers to reduce their price.

  • +3

Would be nice to see a decent price drop on the Mazda 3 lineup.

  • CX-50 on the way? Clearing the CX-5?

    • cx-50 already exists in USA but i doubt it would come here
really seems like a best of both worlds option with the rav4 hybrid drivetrain in a mazda package

    • Was really impressed with that after watching a number of review videos of it on YouTube. But as @Gdsamp said above, I don't think it's coming here.

      • Well they already have the CX-60 all the way through to CX-90 and they have the CX-30. Would weird if they don't also introduce the CX-50 to mainstream the model numbering. They will eventually phase out all the petrol only models like Toyota is doing.

        My 2c anyways.

        • That would be amazing if it happens, and I'll definitely buy it if I don't have a decent vehicle when/if it ever comes here.

  • -4

    Go the Y.

  • This or haval h6 hybrid

    • -5

Haval H6 is way underpowered with no resale value if you want to change in a few years.

      • +4

Eh? H6 Hybrid has almost 200KW, almost double this lol.

        • -1

this guy is full of shit

even the weakest H6 petrol is turbo 150kw 320nm

it stomps on others in its class ie. non hybrid… it clearly drops the hammer on this weak cx5

i'd argue its too much power for fwd

          • @tonyjzx: Yeh my brother has one and he gets wheel spin on every take off (he has a heavy foot) but now he is hearing random noises from the transmission or diff, Haval couldn't even figure it out so they sent the diagnostic report back to China to see what they say.

Great cars but get the newer model that will be released soon they would have ironed out any issues with the older model. But my brother loves him regardless.

            • @itsmoe: yeah the new one has the same power figures

i'm guessing they wont give it more power as it will start killing transmissions!

i think for $33k i mean its good value if people can get over the obvious

              • @tonyjzx: My brother paid close to 43K for his, for the top of the line one.

Look I bought a Mahindra Scorprio, not the best decision I've ever made but I plan on keeping it for 10 or so years minimum if it doesn't shit it self before hand. So we shall see how those micro brands do in the next coming years.

                • @itsmoe: You'll be alright with Mahindra Scorprio. My parents still rocking their 2016 Mahindra Scorprio overseas. Never missed a beat.

                  • @OzSikh: Yeh happy with it so far. Been over a year, knock on wood.

      • +3

Do you buy cars to resell in a few years?

I've had my car since 2014, might run it into the ground, but its resale value is the least of my concern.

        • +2

I don't, but a lot of people do. They end up paying extra 10 or 20k just to sell it for 10 or 20k in few years.

    • I drove a Jolion as a rental car and that car was the worst car I've ever driven.

Technically speaking, as a car it was fine. Power was decent and the ride was good. Has a lot of "safety features" but the safety features were probably making me more distracted than helping, and it was freaking annoying.

      Never touching Haval again

      • I rented a BMW 316i in 2002, it was the worst car I have ever driven. No power, noisy as hell, rattling, the ABS system was grinding. I will never ever buy a BMW ever again.

  • +5

The boot is amongst the smallest in its class. The back seat area is cramped.

    • +2

We have cx-5 and this was correct few years ago

      • +2

yeah i didnt like the cx5 becuase it has the weakest rear load area and with a kids car seat in the middle two adults side to side was real squisshy

for a car that weighs 1.6 its a hard pill to swallow

every other suv its it class was just bigger and some even weighed less

        reverse tardis

  • +3

I own a 2017 CX-5 Akera petrol model with over 220000 km on the clock, and it’s never given me any trouble, truly a bulletproof engine.

  • +4

Is this really a bargain? I bought the same car brand new from a regional VIC dealer for $33k driveaway April 2024

  • Would wait for the hybrid coming 2nd half 2025

    • Hybrid is the worst of both worlds. Go full petrol or ev.

What is wrong with Japanese cars? Just interested to hear what you have to say.

    • +2

      What you recommend, BYD?

    • +2

This guy is stuck in the 1960's

    • -1

What do you reckon champ? Get a Russian car instead? Lol, the kind of weirdos we see here on a daily basis. 😅

  • +2

There are way better options around this price range.

Dropping $37k for this slow piece of crap is crazy.

    • +2

Chery tiggo 4 is almost half this car's price for leagues better interior and practicality. But this is a "china bad" thread because… reasons.

      • Eh 108kw.

Basically just a lifted hatchback not really an SUV. Price is impressive though

        • +1

i don't think 108 kw vs 115 kw is a material difference to any actual buyer considering either of these vehicles.

    • +1

There are way better options around this price range.

      Feel free to suggest some.

  • +1

    No green color? No deal

  • Any up coming deal for CX-60 40GT?

    • +1

Your best bet is 2024 builds and early 2025 builds as they just released the b spec.
Im buying the gt variant soon.

      • How to negotiate with the car dealer to get a better deal, if any?

  • Hi all, this or a base model Corolla Cross Hybrid? Corolla Cross is ~39800.

    • +2

I had cx 5, never had corolla cross so I don't know how it drives. Cx 5 is fun car to drive but drinks a lot of fuel, especially if you do multiple short trips like shopping, school, childcare etc. If it was me I would go for corolla cross, its hybrid and also holds the resale value well.

      • Thanks! I’m looking at the two. Corolla cross is a little bit smaller, but has a slightly bigger boot and more leg room at the back + air vents. Just the base spec is povo haha and the base cx-5 feels more premium.

        • +1

Cx 5 feels premium but boot space is not much bigger. My wife's honda hrv has bigger space than cx 5

          • @Mregmi: anything is bigger than a CX5 it's not very practical yet a wide ass car

      • Was it more like 8L/100km or closer to 10L/100km?

        • +1

Oh no, closer to 12L/100 km. You can get closer to 9-10L if you do highway and longer distance driving. For my driving need it was just wrong car.

          • @Mregmi: 12L is def what I got for city driving

      • test drive the corolla cross, I had one for a couple of months, cramped rear seats and what I also felt was below average visibility for both front and rear

      • is a POS fuel guzzler that I can second

    • Hybrid all the way

    • If you can get corolla Cross hybrid without waiting yeah… Take that car anyday…. mind you Mazda try so hard to become luxury car brand and jack up the price including service. They even charge me $250 bux to fix the noise cause by their servicing, and refuse to fix the the reverse cameras which globally under recall.

The car itself have excellent reliability but Toyota have even better reliability.

  • So overpriced for what these are.
    Same boring interior/exterior for ~ 10 years

    • Agree. If you want to drive a Japanese car might as well just go Toyota. Mazda jacked up their prices over the years marketing a more luxury brand than Toyota but sub par quality and service. Around 2013-2018 those were their prime years. It's falling off since

  • +2

    Cx5 good value car.

  • great reliable car however the engine and design are outdated at this stage. Would buy a cx-50 hybrid in heartbeat though, since its basically a toyota rav4 hybrid drivetrain under the skin.

  • Got a Tucson Hybrid for us at around $42K, loving the fuel economy getting 780+km's a tank (40L)

    • +6

Check your Owner's Manual, your fuel tank is 52 litres, so you are actually getting about 6.7 L/100km, which is ok but not great.

My Skoda Octavia Wagon 110TSI (non-hybrid) gets better economy, has a similar sized boot, and is nicer to drive. I don't get this infatuation with SUV's, they are so overrated. For most people, a mid size wagon would do the job way better.

      • +6

Don't octavia still use VW grenade parts like a dsg and toy grade water pump?

Sure wagons may still be more efficient but people love high driving positions.

Plus this is ozb and not whirlpool forums, take your wagon elsewhere.

        • -2

Why did you piss off? He says the truth. My VAG car gets 1500km/55 litre and I did not open its bonnet in 20 years except for regular maintenance e.g. oil change. You made a up a fake and fictional reliability crap for those crap cars.
Why you do not take yours to somewhere else. When you stuck and have no response; your way is personal attack.

          • +1

@SYLTB: He's correct about the water pump issue. Many VW TSI engines need the water pump/supercharger replacing at a cost of ~$2k.

I'm on my third VW TSI now. Second one needed fixing but otherwise no issues in 15 years of owning VW cars.

I only average 14ish around town but that's in R mode mostly.
