It looks like anyone can sign up:

      https://www.australianmilitarybank.com.au/savings-account/on…

"Key features of the Online Saver Account are:

Open to Australian citizens and permanent residents from 11 years of age and non-personal "

      • That text won't fit on my phone's screen and can't be scrolled, but I get the idea. Weird I've never heard of this bank.

      • Online banking need to be over18 says the app.

They used to offer the 2% cashback on purchases on their Debit Card.

      • Which one is it

    • +1

I’m pretty sure that’s for the normal bonus interest rates not for the bonus $100.

      • Yep, which is why I unpublished it. ;)

  • it's legal, founded in1959, I searched.

4.35% with no withdrawals allowed is not particularly good for a HISA.

    • +11

I'd be keen to hear how since I also don't want to leave it there for 2 months 😂

Sorry but there is ATO community forum posts asking this question and ATO official response confirms it is not.

How? I have $1,000,000 keen to make $100,000 in 2 months..

      • Easy, just open 1000 accounts : P

    • +3

You can do 60%pa ? I want to know as well. How is your tax return bill?

    • +4

Almost a day later we're all still waiting to hear how we can make "way more" with a similar level of risk (ie zero).

      • +2

He's too busy "making way more" than revisit OzB.

    • Can not believe you were so heavily down voted for this. For anybody who wants high yield look into future grid bots or something like Yieldmax (there are also others I just used this company as one example) funds out of the US, with our tax treaty it's still very lucrative for some of their better options. If you know what you are doing. you could trade the options yourself but I would advise against that without heavy prior experience. There are plenty of high yielding investment opportunities out there you just need to know your risk strategy and know your short, medium & long term goals.

EDIT but also to add a quick 200 bucks for literally just locking up 1k for 2 months is nothing to dismiss that is easy money no matter how you look at it for anybody.

  • +1

10% for 2 month, 5% for 1 month. Not bad.

  • +2

Can you sign up online via browser and not the app? Tried the app wouldn’t let me enter anything in the occupation fields. Man I hate signing up with apps on the phone.

  • +6

Entered all the usual stuff in the app, immediately got “Unfortunately we're unable to identify you, call xxx to continue your application." upon submitting (even without a usual slight delay), then it jumped back to the first screen. Starting over - all the fields are blank again. Either scam or really bad system.

    • same here

      • Yep got the same result! I see some other people are having success with the app - I guess you gotta keep filling out the form until it works.

        • Hmm. Just wondering how much time is involved, because people's time to apply, etc. is valuable.
If you stuff around for 4.5 hours for $100, you might as well be working for minimum wage for 4.5 hours and ignore this "offer" and "save" your time.

              • @ozilicious: nope i dont believe someone love their work. if yes, then how about will they keep working but without pay ? hey they love what they do right…

            • -1

@McMaferMur: ^This. We can snack while watching TV to get our free money.

Not me though, this one looks kinda dodgy.

    • Same here but through the app.
I've got this feeling they didn't anticipate the onslaught of applications. Hope it wasn't work experience boy that uploaded it, especially when someone arrives in the morning to 3,000 applications overnight.

    • +1

I had that issue but I disabled ad block filtering for the app (otherwise, turn it off completely) and it worked. Hope that helps!

    • Same here, what a waste of time.

“Receive $100 cash bonus when you open your first new personal Online Saver account, deposit at least $1,000 and make no withdrawals for 2 months from the account open date”

The way that is written you can wait 59 days to make the $1000 deposit then withdraw the next day, but I have a feeling that is not their intention

    • That’s how I read it too

    • Go to banking ombudsman if it doesn't pay?

"Cash bonus will be paid into the eligible Online Saver accounts by 12 September 2025."

      • +2

        welp thats far

    • "Offer ends 30 June 2025"

      • Thanks, so deposit 1000 before the offer ends, maybe a day or two pending time.

  • +7

"Cash bonus will be paid into the eligible Online Saver accounts by 12 September 2025."

Make sure to set a reminder to check the account once a month lol. Also note the $0.50 external transfer(including Osko) charge to other financial institutions for the Online Saver account.

    • +4

      What ??? 50c to transfer out ?

      • +3

It's listed on their Fees and Charges Schedule.

        • -1

How to avoid the fee ? By direct debit purchase or tapping the debit card ?

          • +1

@yht: You need to create a Military Rewards Account and link it to the Online Saver. You can only change your linked account over the phone so it’s probably easier to pay the fee if you have already linked an external account

    • +6

That makes the bonus only $99.50. Less if you continue to use the account. What a rubbish fee!

      • +5

What sort of bank charges fees to osko? Weird as (profanity)

    • +1

Also note the $0.50 external transfer(including Osko) charge to other financial institutions for the Online Saver account.

It's free if you use your linked account

Free transfers available through a linked bank account

      • Can the linked bank account be an external account or does it have to be an AMB account?

    • Is $0.5 apply transfer to both transfer in and out?

      • I'm guessing probably transfers out.

  • -1

Wondering if I can get the $100 if I open now, wait till day 59th and deposit $1000?

    • $100 Cash Bonus^
when you open your first Online Saver, deposit $1,000 and make no withdrawals for the first 2 months.

    • -2

Wow, didn't think of that, almost put $1000 in on day 1!

      • Are you sure about that ? Does it look like we have to put $1000 first rather than waiting until 59th day ?

  • website getting ozbargained?

    • +1

Probably, got stuck at the Occupation details page

  • anyone successfully signed up?

    • yep, had no problem

    • Well, most if not all the banks in Australia have their domains ending with .com.au. .gov.au is for government orgs only.

  • +4

hehe all the branches are in restricted areas

  • Just signed up, impressed everything was done all online, account up and running with the deposit in my account in about 15 minutes (had some minor bugs/time-out with the app but in the end all OK)

  • Do you need to open a transaction account as well? The website says you need to open one when you open a saving account via the app

    • no you dont need to

    • +1

Can link the online saver account to an external bank account.

However, linking to an AMB transaction account avoids the $0.50 external transfer fee.

      • I think you're on the spot how to avoid the fee. If you link this account to the transaction account to do an internal transfer, then from the transaction account withdraw to an external account, you won't get charge for fee?

        • Still believe there is a 50c fee to withdraw from the Everyday Access account to external account.

No fee for transferring from the Military Rewards account, however that account has your spare change deducted to charity.

          https://www.australianmilitarybank.com.au/sites/default/file…

          https://www.australianmilitarybank.com.au/everyday-accounts/…

Each month, Australian Military Bank will transfer your ‘spare change’ (i.e. the cents on your account balance up to 0.99c) to a Defence related charity selected by you. Australian Military Bank will then match, dollar-for-dollar, the money donated each month and contribute this directly to the specified charities.

          • +2

@simplerick: Wow the bank name should be Australian Robin Hood Bank

            • @McMaferMur: Happy to just withdraw $99 and leave the spare channge of $0.50 there (after $0.50 fee deducted).

          • @simplerick:

No fee for transferring from the Military Rewards account, however that account has your spare change deducted to charity.

A monthly sweep doesn't pose any problem. Transfer money in from the saver account, transfer money straight away to an external account.

Wouldn't want to use it as an actual transaction account, but I don't think many Ozbargainers taking advantage of this deal are remotely interested in that :)

            • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Yeah I realised shortly after posting that the transaction account would be empty for the most part anyway, so not really possible for funds to be swept anyway, haha
