Still on an old version of OpenWRT 19.07 (Current Version is 24.10.1). GLinet team has been claiming to be working on the upgrade now for quite some time, but nothing yet

Looks like base openwrt support is now available, but you will lose the GL parts.

      • What does GL add?

‘Grand Luxe’ trim used to mean electric windows, better climate controls, stereo etc. but it’s basically the ‘mid’ range now, hence why they have dumb incremental trim levels now like GLX and GLS.

@Bedgrub: As long as it comes with complimentary foot mats and metallic paint I'll be happy.

    • What does this mean for the layperson?

  • This only has 2×2 WiFi - claimed 2400 mbps is using 160MHz channel.

    • +1

      I don't see how that's a down side?

most of your phone/laptop, or say the most popular Intel AX2** series wireless NIC, is running on 2x2 and will only reach 2400mbps on 160Mhz

I know it's less crowded with 4x4 if you have a lot of devices all using heavy bandwidth together. but normal house hold this is fine….

    • What does this mean for the layperson?

It has average/typical WiFi, not good/powerful WiFi.

A lot of AC WiFi routers are 3×3, so this AX router will be worse in some scenarios.

      • Absolutely nothing. If you know you need it you probably do.

  • About to get nbn 250/1000 HFC to a double brick 65sqm apartment. This router or erro 6?

    • Flint 2 would be a good router. It was on offer until yesterday. Have a look on here at previous posts.

With the NBN upgrade coming September this year, you might want to consider something with 2.5Gbps WAN port or better.
While the 6GHz band has rather limited range, if you are after gigabit WiFi speed, you have a better chance with 6GHz WiFi 7 or 6E.

    Perfect gift for Mother's Day

  • Hmm might be time to upgrade my mango router

A photo frame with parental controls.. nice.

  • Been using for few months. Experienced once setting issue where wifi connected but no internet. have to factory reset and then reapply setting with firmware upgrade. Cautious of happening again. Kept the old telstra smartmodem gen2 for backup

    • Is this a lot better than the telstra modem? I'm still using that, but I'd get this if it's a lot better…

they are alright for basic needs. such as you only have 100mbps speed interent anyway + less than 20 wifi devices total + no gaming demand/4k streaming…..

but yeah there is a reason those stuff comes free. And the longer you use those (as long as you never have problem for what you need), you never know what you missing out (such as those weird lag comes on once a while, etc etc).

but yes rule of thumb, put them in bridge mode, let modem solely be a modem, and get a good router, to do the routing and switching. This is a good start for not too much to ask.

      • it is slightly better than telstra gen2 WIFI5. faster speed especially on newer WIFI6 devices.

    • I have the MT3000, that happened to me twice now in a year. might be the vpn i was using, just all of sudden no internet for like couple mins.

      • If you have VPN on and kill switch, then likely it's your VPN.
I've used mine a few times while overseas with VPN to Australia, and switched to US VPN for prime without ads etc (wireguard works really well).
Didn't have any drop issues. Running the MT3000 as secondary wifi/VPN since late last year (really like the switch on the side: VPN on/off).
        I have mt1300 and mt3000.

  • Hi, I'm currently using a D-Link covr-2200. Moving to a new place so will set up new NBN connection. Should I keep using covrr or get something like this?

  • What VPN do you recommend that has wireguard support? and no annoying google captchas.

    • I use Proton VPN. Works a treat.

  • Is there a way to setup (wireless) mesh with two GL-B3000?

    • I believe you can only set up an access point

    • You could run it in extender mode.

      • That extender mode is not preferable. Mesh is much better.
