I am not sure that this is an ATL on the P8a 128GB version but it looks pretty solid anyway.
The 8a is currently listed at $797 at JB and $150 more for the 256GB. Maybe not as crazy cheap as some of the recent P9 Pro deals but worth a look if you are in the mood for a smaller handset

What are the vast improvements in 9a?
IP classification and peak brightness:

Not sure I would call that vast.not much
Battery life seems much better.
I am curious is Google pixel still the gold standard of android phones? it used to be stock android was always the best version of android. And you get updates almost instantly as they get released.
Samsung Galaxy series is the prime candidate for android gold standard phone. Some people prefer the pure Android experience and for them Pixel might be a top choice but there are other option. But Samsung generally has the best hardware.
samsung doesn't have stock android so its not a gold standard of android only stock is a clean version of android.
@kungfuman: Hardly a reason to call it the gold standard of android phones. It's the all round experience that counts. Tensor chips are notoriously inefficient and not a flagship level of performance and pixels are known to have pretty lousy Battery life.
@dazzles: When u understand how software development works u will understand why stock android is a gold standard over a heavy skinned bloated version of android
@kungfuman: If you believe stock android is the gold standard and nothing beats it then why bother asking the question in the first place? Google develops android itself so it would be the only true stock android.
lol at your comment about understanding how software dev works. If you did you wouldn't be asking this question in the first place.
@dazzles: the question was directed at if 3rd parties were still bloating android or actually going with a stock version. there used to be a time where hardware manufacturer would build phones with stock version of android on them like Samsung did back in the day, these phones were know as the google edition phones back in the nexus days. So the question remains is pixel still the gold standard? or are third party manufacturers making there own phone with stock android on them again?
So you can cancel after 1month and get it for 499 + 30?
Based on past deals, yes*. Even better, the $35 plan is currently $12 on amaysim.com.au. They're also regularly discounted at Coles/Woolworths; make sure you buy a $30 or higher plan.
* Past performance is no guarantee of future resultsI purchased the $35 plan online for $12 with an esim. Then after logging into my amaysim account I was able to order the phone without the $30 sim plan.
So if I cancel the esim after the Pixel 8 ships then the total should be $511, seems like a good deal to me.I've just tried to do this, but it says the account I ordered is still in "activation mode", and won't let me select it for purchase. Spewing!
@gdogdiggity: Oh no, I did already have an account with them from a previous sim. Maybe try again later once the esim is activated?
@Loopyloop: I used a previous sim account too. Perhaps the difference is I had to choose physical sim as my phone i'll actually be using the account for is an S21FE, I'm trying to buy the pixel for my wife.
@gdogdiggity: No I did not, once they put me on the activation page with the QR code I could select it as a suitable service to purchase the pixel.
I treated the esim as an extra cost with no intention to actually use it for the pixel 8a, and I thought that selecting a physical sim could only cause delays.@Loopyloop: This here, we have living legends who've also attempted exactly as mentioned, except perhaps for the other physical sim delivery instead which did not show up in the mail.
@quincymac: I had to buy in a hurry so ended up just buying an esim and doing it straight away, eating the 30$. Still a good deal!
It's a good price.
Thought this was a deal on a smashed phone
Thankyou! My mum needs a new phone ASAP, was going to pay $797 at jb tomorrow because I couldn't find a deal, absolutely perfect timing 👍
Why you need to spend this much though? Wouldn't the Motorola G75 ($294.30) be good enough for your Mum?
Well the camera's on those motos ain't that great
Why do you think their mum is too old to need a good phone?
There are lots of mums aged between 40 and 70 with grown up kids who want and need good phones with good cameras.Agree. My mom is 75 and healthy. She has S24 as she needed good camera phone.
Whether or not this phone is good is debatable. As I linked to below on GSM Arena there's reports of overheating & fast battery drain.
Good price but all time low was $349 JB Deal during pre-sale
What!!! Was that a Sim plan deal?
nope! just a really good deal
Is it always like that when Google release a new model?
@Suricate: it was good with 6a, 7a and 8a presale at JB but when it came to the recent 9a the deal was crap
ding ding ding
I haven't tried trade-in
Can I trade-in any model as long as it's a smart phone? I have a windows phoneAfter trade ins and work gift cards I ended up spending only something like $200 and that was because I took the 256gb model. Sure my battery life now goes down to 80% on one train ride to the city but I can probably use the now $300 trade in value on a pixel 8a towards another phone if I trade up soon.
Does this have battery issues?
I got rid of my last pixel phone because of the poor battery life. I would have hoped with the larger capacity the 8a would have been better, but guess Im sticking with my Oppo for a while longer
I'd prefer nothing 2a over this…only bcoz of the battery size and heating issues.
I wish some of the major brands would begin moving to 256gb minimum, 128 is really becoming quite limiting and cloud storage isn't always suitable 🫠
I wish they don't remove the support for micro SD.
Pixel 8a or A56 for the same price??
Cheers OP mothers day sorted
Does it come with Graphene OS ?
No… It's a Pixel… It comes with vanilla Android.. It'll be Graphene capable though, but you'll have to do it yourself.
If you need to ask that question though, I'd suggest you learn a lot about Graphene before you try and do it, including apps and functionality loss (possibly functions of maps, and NFC for cardless payments
These are the steps I followed:
1. Purchased this for $12 https://www.amaysim.com.au/sim-plans/28-day-sim-plans/unlimi…
2. Filled in some details to set up the account - I did not activate the eSim.
3. Authenticated my account via SMS (to existing mobile)
4. Purchased phone via the above website.
5. TODO Cancel auto-renew subscription!!!
I'd prefer the 9a when it becomes cheaper solely for the vast improvement over this model , still seems like a reasonable price though ✅
