Thoughts on OzBargain Reviews on Product Review

I just came across reviews and people's comment here: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/ozbargain

I was surprised to see the overall review is very low. All the reviews and comments look genuine (i.e real humans with their experiences and not fake reviews).

Just wondering what are the thoughts?

Edit:
Added a poll as well. How would you rate ozbargain forum community (not the deal)?

First of all I thank you for running a great site, and the effort of the mods, who are perhaps volunteers?
I've accidently stepped out line (broken the rules) and quite honestly in hindsight deserved the ban. But frankly I was completely offended (Butthurt) by the approach and wording by the mods when my intention was purely to help the community here.
Look I get it they "deal" with many thousands of clowns or people abusing the system, and it's an extremely tough unrewarding gig.

My only advice\recommendation is perhaps softer wordings, perhaps caution, may go some way to change the perception of the mods.

PS: I read through many of those comments, really not worth responding to, I wasn't even sure they related to this site, some were really strange,

Noted. That's the general direction that we are trying to move into.

However there will still be tone difference between talking with someone making careless mistakes, verses repeated offenders who just can't stop arguing. In those cases the mods are advised to just ignore further reports and TWAMs (and wait for new reviews on ProductReview).

@UltimateAI: The moderators are full time paid employees. Power Users like myself are volunteers that can edit deals and mark deals as expired/sold out.

Power Users are members on OzBargain with extra capabilities to update deal posts. They are different from Moderators as they have no moderation ability, i.e. cannot remove deals, comments or ban users and domains.

      • Why were you surprised the rating was so low?

        • As it deviates from what I would have expected.

I feel 1 to not a fair rating and can see why Scotty takes it personally. Some comments are very harsh and not productive. It's pretty much doing name calling.

In the end bulk of it is from the other community members. Every post, I expect there will be 20% of troll type comments that one needs to ignore, >40% are really helpful and genuine comments and rest are people trying to be witty with their own style of sense of humour. My personal favourite is where there are always some people who go the extra mile to play detectives and come to inferences based on your posts in the past.

So overall you need to see this is training to not get emotionally attached and walk away in case there is getting out of control.

Moderators are kind enough to even take full threads offline occasionally.

I think it's reasonable for people to look at someone's post history as it paints a picture of what kind of person they are. If people are wanting to hide their past maybe something isn't right.

            • @eug: Yes. Of course. That's what I mean by going the extra mile.
Most people are not going to spend the extra time and effort.

          • @bin555: Lol.. imagine if you could review discord mods.

For all of the real or perceived complaints and issues with the site, mods, users etc etc - is there anything better? I think we should all be grateful the site is commercially successful and lives on year after year and provides us all with literally tens of thousands in savings over the life of our "membership". This is by far my #1 website of all time. My only wish is that "we" (as a community) could attract more reps, I think this is our ticket to the holey grail of bargains. Imagine every product, every category having access to end of lot, wholesale, clearance, pre-order, in bulk, true mates rates etc etc before the general public…..I can only dream.

      And a ⭐️

Didn't even know this existed so just had a quick look - 2nd review in (1 star) states 'A concerningly pro Chinese website' - which is kind of accurate when you boil it down.

    Avatar needs a resize 🤔

  • Some of the comments are spot on, there are a lot of folk with too much time on their hands on OzBargains, they need help and a balanced life.

    • -3

Yep. This site is teeming with downvote warriors with no lives.

  • Does not reflect reality, people with negative experiences are for more likely to provide a review.
That being said, mods can be pretty tough. While some members are self-focused, by and large it's much better here than the alternatives.
The "Chinese" crap comments, speak more for society than the site.
Anyone with a positive experience should always leave a review, I know I try.

  • This post desperately needed a poll for the 5 ⭐️ ratings, so all of Ozb can speak.

i'm sure it will be much higher than the ratings sites, where most are there just to whinge

Good idea. I've added the poll.

I generally fear posting forum questions and deals out of risk of getting cut down for formatting mistakes, /thread comments and the community just on a war path. I generally just hang around answering forum questions.

    • +1

Love to see some stats on how many "moderator" actions were the result of complains by Karens.

    • +1

A lot of moderators' work is actually fixing deal posting mistakes. Full revisions of all the edits can be found under the "revisions" tab on a deal page. We usually just fix up the title to help other users who skim through the deal list, and try to retain the style of the content of the original post, except in the case when the info is lacking or wrong. Sometimes other users might call out for bad formatting in the comments but please just ignore them, as the post will usually get fixed eventually…

In short — don't worry too much and just post the deals.

Generally for google business reviews, how do you tell if reviews are genuine or fake?

  • Bloody brutal. Where to from here mods?

    • +1

Is it? I don't think there is anything to do. It's just a couple disgruntled people. What people CAN do is post positive reviews!

  • +1

Who gives a (profanity) what those whingers think lol? Bunch of sad pathetic losers who are giving reviews for a website that doesn't actually sell anything to be reviewed, morons lmao.

  • -7

Ozbargain would be better without the forums.

    • +2

If you feel that way just don't participate in them?

      • +1

        I hardly do these days.
And I don't think I will beyond these comments. the deals are great. The forums are becoming toxic.
Well, in its defence nearly every online forum is becoming toxic.

        • If everywhere is becoming toxic maybe instead it's you that has become sensitive? Food for thought.

No love for the dunderheads? Harsh.

Reading those reviews just reinforced how stupid and pathetic some people can be. What a bunch of sissies.

  • OzCommunismGain lol but in return I would also rate Productreview below 1 star. Its bias for their own advertiser is more than a joke.

  • Advertising S. 2w · The admins and mods played soggy biscuit with me - I was the biscuit, 10/10

One of the reviews. Anyone wanna explain what that one means?

  • Email we received today, can someone post a deal for Kobo Colour e-reader? :D

XXXXX sent a message using the contact form at OzBargain.

I clicked on your rediculous site when looking for best price on a Kobo colour e-reader. All you show is expired deals. What a complete wase of time. I'm now going through trust pilot, product review etc etc to try and stop others wasting their time

    • I wish we could review reviews. Someone should make reviewreviews.com.

    • 🤣😂

      Clowns, clowns everywhere…

I'm guessing that they didn't find the "find me a bargain…" forum?

Can say I'm sorry to see the arse end of that store as they closed the Ozbargain door on their way out.

Probably sitting in a cafe somewhere with Mr. Pepnimble licking each other's wounds over self inflicted war stories

        • You mean? > Can't say I'm sorry ,etc?.

          • @Protractor: Was typing on my way to the airport on the SkyBus, so some errors or omissions my have been applied.

            • @pegaxs: Oh, you were still in Melbourne, that explains why you mentioned seeing clowns everywhere in your earlier comment…

            • @pegaxs: Skybus is the transport of choice. Watch out for Skywhips.

So 'Kelly' posted this review recently:

Worst website i have ever been to, when you try to submit a post or even comment they ban you and block you. Such a scam, these websites should be pulled down.
