Good finds and prices, but I think you may have the wrong information about ski season dates.

Def not skiing in Japan in Oct or Nov! Barely anything first half of Dec outside of Hokkaido

  • Which of the 3rd party booking agencies in Aus are preferred? I always worry about support in case of delays/cancellation.

    • +7

3rd party OTAs cannot help you with the slightest flight issue.

Booking direct is about $60 more and well worth it: https://www.ana.co.jp/en/au/

I usually search with Google Flights and then book direct: https://www.google.com/travel/flights/s/zyUiwxmi9bxi5JDH8

I posted this reminder why not to trust a 3rd party yesterday: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/34k68kqw#r75397031

yeah, as per above - booking 3rd party isn't worth the headache if you ever encounter an issue. I've travelled a decent amount in my lifetime, and when I was younger (and looking to save), I'd go 3rd party, but I did have issues on a few occasions, and honestly it doesn't matter who you book with, it's just a headache. Nowadays, I look for deals and book direct, it'll save you that headache if you ever encounter an issue (at least from my previous experience and opinion). It's kind of like insurance, you hope never to need/use it, but if you ever do, you'll be grateful

        This is right.

The difference is night and day.

I felt like a rockstar given such attentive service to avoid a disruption on the last flight with Cathay because I had booked direct.

I do feel bad that I always write 'beware of OTAs' comments on the OPs posts because they often find good deals. Sorry, but it has to be said.

  • Do they ever do one stop to Okinawa?
Or is it more economical for me to book Okinawa myself

Sydney to Tokyo/Okinawa - Okinawa to Tokyo - Tokyo to Sydney

    • There's no direct flights to Okinawa.

ANA will fly you SYD-HND-OKA on this deal ~$960.

Also other competitive one stop options to Okinawa via Taipei (China Airlines) and Hong Kong (Cathay).

      • Thanks for that?
I can find that price via the ANA website direct?

        • +1

Yes, depends on dates. e.g. Nov has that price.

          • @Time has come: Thanks, found it. Looked so promising, sadly the early flights and 10hr stopover with kids would be brutal.
Overnight or midday flights changed it significantly

            • @Owgasm: There is also multiple-cities option, you can choose to stay in Tokyo for more than 24 hours before heading to Onikawa and after returning to Tokyo, with roughly the same price of $960, which may be more flexible.

  • If i want to book from brisbane for November would i be better off flying to sydney for this deal or keep waiting for a brisbane nobember deal?

    • +4

ANA is not great for you.
It becomes too expensive when you add a connecting flight to Sydney. And it's unwise to book a separate connecting flight because it will be unprotected if there is a change to any flights.

      You should watch:
JAL via Sydney to Tokyo (connections from BNE and other Australian capitals are often built into the price, maybe $100-200 more)
      Jetstar to Tokyo or Osaka
      Qantas to Tokyo
      Singapore
      Cathay
EVA and China Airlines via Taipei

      • Yes, ANA doesn't fly direct from Brisbane, Olympic city ??? What a joke !!!

        • Olympic in seven years city.

Is this about as low as ANA gets? Wife wants specifically nonstop ANA for our trip later this year and I'm wondering if I should pull the trigger now or hold out for a potentially better deal.

    • +2

It highly doubt it would get any lower than this. Check out previous deals for ANA.

Ok yeah, you seem to be right. Thanks for the reply, cheers

If you want to experience red leaves, ensure to arrive from Mid to late November. We went there last year from first week of November, they were very green, even Fuji got no Snow.

Good deal, but only 1 checked baggage included, as in recent deals. Need to add around $260 for additional checked baggage for both directions from/to SYD
