Blockbuster Hartwell [VIC] Closing down. Free VHS Movies

40

Got a text from Blockbuster Hartwell, unsure of their closing date. The DVD's/Blu-Ray's were pretty expensive for Ex-rentals (assuming they will come down in price closer to closing).

However, there is hundreds of old VHS movies which you can take for free (or make a gold coin donation to kids help line if you feel inclined). Some good titles, picked up Aladdin, Finding Nemo, etc. Some good kids stuff as well.

Very much pot luck!

They still have VHS movies? No wonder they are closing down

    • Thought the same thing.

  • They should have just made a bulk donation to the museum, probably the only place you'll find a VHS player these days too.

  • who still rent movie out?

    What is the VHS?

  • Video stores closing down… every time i pass one, I wonder how they didn't close down earlier.

Yeh surprising how video stores have lasted for so long…

  • I drove past them recently, suprised to still they were still around. I used to visit that store a lot for new releases.

But now we have kiosks outside supermarkets. Where will we get our classic movies from?
Foxtel? We need netflix in Aus.

    • what's the difference between netflix and quickflix? Are the prices cheaper?

      • Pricing isn't drastically different but netflix has a huge library, quickflix is pretty pathetic by comparison, I'm guessing local licensing/distributors who think VHS is still "cool" are to blame.

  • Can I neg this cause i want betamax?

    • Only if you want laserdisc too

Believe it or not, Beta is still around! Although domestically it lost the war in the early 80's to VHS, professionally Beta SX is only recently (and currently) being phased out by News and TV crews.

    • by News and TV crews.

funnily enough they get rented out about as often as VHS's at blockbuster….

    • so what are the news people using now?

      • +1

Nothing since the budget cuts, they are just recycling the news and blurring out faces so you cant tell who it is.

What the hell are you on? Why would ANYONE use something like tape thats half of DVD resolution when they can buy many digital solutions at extremely affordable prices and not have to keep buying tapes???

  • Reminds me of the recent South Park Halloween episode 16-12 where Randy Marsh ends up buying a blockbuster video store cheap and no customers visit.

I went last night, they are selling ex-rental new-release DVD's for $15 and older releases for $8. Not very cheap… yet… I asked the cashier when the sale would finish, and they told me the end of Jan, so I recon I'll return around then when they're desperate ;)
