Amazing deal! It's $300 cheaper than any other price I can find. Time to get a Costco membership just for this.
But no upvote….
Weirdos.
PS. Odds are, you'll get slapped for "soliciting votes"
might be because M4 chip, would cost more and mac’s have long support life , but some people want newest models.
I got downvoted on this comment? I’m literally Just stating it’s a good deal? What a joke.
Probably because you said it’s a good deal but didn’t give it a positive vote. Could be read as sarcasm, lazy etc.
its a good deal
dont get ur panties in a bunch
Great price. Almost insta buy for me.
Great price, when you consider how expensive even used base M2s are.
How do i get a membership
you can sign up online but you have to go to the physical store to get a card.
You can sign up and then cancel and get a refund
How much time do you have to cancel and still receive a refund?
Whole year i think
Other retailers may be able to price-match
Not available at OW sadly
That was my first question/thought too.
actually decent deal.
HODL for EOFY sale next month will probably even cheaper
Apple need to shift a lot of old stock of iPhone15/M3's so expect to see some good deals like this as jbhifi/goodguys dont like loosing out sales and have a lot of pull with apple reps too.
Yeah can see lots of retailers still got different configurations of M2 & M3 stocks, bet next month they will all try to get rid of them during EOFY sale.
which retailers are those, because I can't see any that stock the 256gb m3's except for costco?
well its out of stock now so i hope you're right
Anyone know how this compares to M4 instead? Worth upgrading?
At this price, it’s a no brainer over the M4. Anyone on an M1 or earlier would be worth an upgrade but definitely not from an M3, especially if you’re running 16GB RAM.
Not sure about being a no brainer, M4 air with discounted GCs direct from Apple is around $150 more (AOC).
Not everyone is comfortable falsely purchasing through the Education store and not everyone has access to discounted gift cards.
@Be careful: They aren’t discounted, you just get money back in Everyday Rewards and Flybuys points. That still doesn’t account for people not wanting to using Apple Education fraudulently to obtain the larger discount.
@MaximumEffort777: i think need edu email account unless someone knows better, and i think its tertiary nor secondary school, not sure [email protected] works ?
@garage sale: Nope, anyone can order from there but if you do an instore pickup you may be asked for proof of being a Uni student, teacher etc. If you choose delivery you won’t be asked for ID but a lot of people just don’t like taking the risk or purchasing under false pretences of actually being eligible.
I’ve ordered many times through AOC for delivery without issue.
FYI: The M4 is the new ARMv9.3b instruction architecture, where as the M3 is the lastgen ARMv8.6-A that's now more than a decade old and its why the new M4 is such a powerhouse of a CPU from Apple. What does this mean, well Ill be honest M1/2/3 are all perfectly good and will have OS updates for a while yet but going forward, the M1/2/3 is like the old Intel 32bit and the M4 onward will be the 64bit equivalent with a much longer life-cycle support. But if your just surfing the internet as I am now, its overkill… Now can you do better, I think yes if your ok as I am with a Lenovo running Win11 or *INX as you can get 32gb, 1tb and OLED screen and its hard to pass up on and why I jumped ship instead of getting another macbook (I have bought the M4 Mini for the desktop though) but the Lenovo is what Im typing this on now
Doubt it makes much difference if you are getting the 16GB RAM model.
Good points all taken, but meh….if anyone care all that much, they probably wouldn't be macbook air's kwy clientele to begin with…
Work being on cloud, at least in our use case I primarily only need a computer that can run browser and local processes efficiently. So we have not even felt the need to upgrade from M1 8GB.
*you're. Also unclear as all M chips are 64bit
I think he's trying to make a description for it layman. But in reality that level user wouldn't understand 32 v 64bit
@srhardy This is not entirely true ARMv8.6-A is only about 5 years old this instruction set is many iterations on ARMv8. ARMv9.3b introduces substantial improvements over ARMv8.6-A, particularly in areas of vector processing, security, and multi-core performance. However, this progression is more about refining and expanding capabilities rather than a fundamental shift like the 32-bit to 64-bit transition you attempted to compare it to.
In real world performance it’s around 20% increase in multi threading but 40-60% in AI tasks. This is much better value for money than the m4 air. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/6040vs5749/Apple-M4-10-…
Interesting, though where can I find a Win11 Lenovo with 32Gb, 1Tb, and an OLED for this price? As unless I'm blind, I can't see anything like that - even on Ozbargains
Lol just because it’s better numbers doesn’t mean it’s a better laptop, assuming you’re talking about this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/904415
it’s got 7 hours less battery life and is made of plastic.
This has 10 and is aluminium.
It depends what you’re looking for but you get more performance out of lessor hardware as it’s more efficient on the MacBook.
Take a breath mate!
typing this from my M1 Max MBP 16 with 64GB/2TB
if you haven't surfed ozbargain on a 16 inch miniled panel you haven't lived
Lol. I better get it
have same issue, have intel macbook air for surfing, have been looking at win11 with an oled screen as upgrade to the $480 gen11 i7 pristine refurb from ozbargain deal, mac mini sounds like a good gap filler on the desk.
Cheaper than an iPhone. Interesting.
Is it breaking Apple's law by offering a big discount?
Lol
apple store will price match up to 10% on macbooks, but they seem to have deals better then 10% when model comes out, in this case m4.
Can I use the QR code of the member who applied online or do I have to wait to get the physical card from Costco first?
Can I use gift cards to buy this?
M3 has 8 CPU cores while M4 has 10 CPU cores. Pretty sure spending the extra 270 or so is more worth it for m4 no?
The base M4 is also 8 cores. The 10 core chip is another $130 or substantially more if you upgrade the RAM or SSD.
That’s for GPU cores. CPU cores it’s consistent at 10 cores for all m4 models
Completely missed the CPU part. But no, spending an extra $270 on 2 CPU cores isn’t worth it for everyone, especially for basic everyday tasks.
If my M1 is fully capable of surfing the interwebs, would I need an M3 or M4? Battery life over 4 years is still above 90%, crazy good
If it’s only for the basic use you mentioned and it’s handling everything you do now, you definitely don’t need to upgrade.
I think you're answering your own question.
If I'm good now. Am I good?
Yes, you are
Apple fanboys dont need a reason to upgrade
keep m1 it'll serve you a few more years and then some if you look after it.
still no reason for me to upgrade from M1 Max even for creative workloads. only newer Max chips beat it, and even then why would I pay another few thousand to shave off a couple minutes here and there. m1 was revolutionary step forward, the rest is incremental.
m4 is quite a step up in performance still (single thread), but will you notice in day to day life? nope.
I'm shocked that a Macbook is the best value laptop at this price range by hundreds of dollars… What is Apple smoking? Are their sales declining?
Yes, I'd say they are….
Competition is a good thing for the consumer
they hit it out of the park with M1 chips lol
Mac sales were okay in Q1. People might try to buy before Trump tariffs. iPhone drops from 1st to 5th place in China. They still earn more from services.
https://www.businessofapps.com/data/apple-statistics/
https://9to5mac.com/2025/04/18/apple-is-the-only-major-phone…
it’s because they have a new model, and m3 chips are probably still being made on a cheaper chip fab line at tsmc.
Thank you Trump
I guess new stock with 145% started to take effect. No one in US would pay doubles.
I would replace the first word there with something more suitable! I haven't been in penalty box for yonkies lol
why get a surface when nice macbook are these price ….
You need a device that runs Windows perhaps?
work runs office and windows apps, we only have 30 mac’s in a fleet of 2300 PCs,
This only came out last year. Are they refreshing the macbook air every year now?
Do Officeworks or HarveyNorman pricematch deals like this?
Was eyeing up the Microsoft Surface Pro X Plus, but with current pricing, I could get an Ipad AND this Macbook for similar.
NO PRICE MATCH JBHIFI.
Thanks for this, saved me from checking with JB if they'd price match.
The M3 13" 16/256 config not stocked at HN, TGG or OW for those wondering.
It's all depends what you need. Extra $300 https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5000447/shop/buy-mac/macbook-ai… gives you latest one
Have to agree..
300 is a lot. But a macbook isn't something you tend to upgrade regularly. I kept my 2011 11inch air for a decade before yeeting it.
If you expect to keep it for a long time, buying the latest may make sense.. Especially if you need specific functionality like the dual screens etc. Or perhaps eventually expect to need.
Lots of various threads on M3 vs M4.
The reason I would want the M4 MacBook Air is that it now supports dual external monitors, where prior generations do not, only a single. As an FYI I have a fully spec’d out 13” MacBook Pro M2 today, but I do prefer the form factor of the Air. My home office is setup with dual monitors connected with a caldigit ts3 hub, so lid down mode at home.
yup it's no "one size fits all" and why apple has this range diversity, to a degree that it's sometimes confusing even when you know what you need (for instance, real hard to choose between 15 Air and 14 pro since m4 non-pro skus are priced very close)
I started off with 13 air but now I do everything on the go, and carry MBP 16 around and won't have it any other way (but would love to shave off a bit of the weight lol)
Got the 24/512 model price matched in OW for $1662.47.
Noice!
I've never had an Apple laptop, so thinking if it's worth switching from PC env. to Apple? How hard is it to get free software for it? I can get most of the things I need for free for my Win laptop (3D modelling, video-processing, word-processing). Is the situation much worse for Apple?
There are a lot of small differences in every day use, just depends on how quickly you can learn. Just like going from Android to Iphone.
Apple comes with its version of MS office and other software etc included.
On the plus side, the Macbooks are built tough. Kids had them last 7 yrs plus with daily commute to school/Uni.
If I'm mostly using web-based stuff or Google Chrome, will there be a lot of difference?
No difference at all, Chrome is the same on any operating system.
Thank you! Just bought one, but with bigger SSD
1699 now and in stock…
If you select a colour it'll show out of stock
it’s is for a 15” , it’s a very glorious screen and you look at screen more than the cpu if it’s m3 or m4 , especially handy if you don’t have a 4k monitor when working from home, or you work in library a fair bit on the go.
Got one in-store in Canberra this afternoon! My 2013 MacBook Pro is still kicking on but probably about time to upgrade lol
Nice deal
