    Plenty of nits.

Similar performance to Ryzen 7 8845HS. iGPU not quite as good.

anyone what the battery life is like by chance ?

    • -4

Says on the link. Keep in mind it's got a 4 cell battery, which is kinda small

      • +4

        Still 84Wh though

        • -3

It'll be fine for office work. Anything intense will drain it quickly

      • +5

4 cell would have been small if it was the old 18650 cells but it's pouch cells and 84Wh which isn't small.

        • Yes, number of cells is somewhat meaningless these days.

      • +2

I don't know much about battery tech but i would have thought the Wh is a better indicator which is 84Wh's and that's not at all bad.

      • Mate 84Wh is close to the max battery size you can bring on a plane

  • +6

1.4 kg i think, according to an Amazon listing. Don't know why they always omit the weight

    • Anyone got recs for current best value under 1.1kg?

I know this one is approx $300 more but Can anyone pls give their expert recommendions on this Asus Zenbook and its Battery and Performance in general . Thanks

    • +1

Not enough RAM for that CPU. Doesn't look like great value IMO.

    • +1

That intel chip is not as efficient as their new Lunar lake or the AMD chips (last gen or this new gen) you will get a lot better battery out of these or Lunar lake based laptops, performance i can't really comment on but i think overall you better off with a laptop with the newer CPU's if you want mobility. also the iGPU of these new chips is leagues ahead of the one in that intel chip.

  • More like AMD`s lunar lake, sinple core better multiple cores not that good and better bettery performence

  • +1

Anyone got thoughts on a good 2-in-1 I could get with this coupon?

    • +1

Never seen a good 2in1 32GB deal for long. They want to charge for close too 2k. Not worth and wasting of time.

  • -3

    This or MacBook Air 14”?

    • +1

Depends if you like MacOS or Windows.

    • Don't know about a performance comparison. But I have had both Windows and mbp and Windows never come close to the macs track pad. Macs don't slow down like Windows machines overtime too..

Also screen, batter life would be better on mac

      • i'd like to think the OLED on this laptop would beat the IPS on the air

        • I actually bought a m4 mbp just yesterday to replace my 10yo mbp retina. Performance and sound are night and day difference but screen is not so surprisingly (watching some YT vids)

    • +1

There is no 14" MacBook Air

  • +10

Don't expect cashback to be approved through Shopback

    • +6

      agree, im done with them

      • I was one and done. Didn't even get that cashback either.

    • +1

      Shopback is useless.

    • Approvals were far worse than the competition.

I gave up trying to get my small balance out. Every attempt at the transfer would fail.

    • +2

Count me as another who was refused advertised cashback from Shopback, despite several attempts at follow up.

I won't be using them again.

  • What is gaming gonna be like on this? I'm currently looking at a Legion Go, playing older titles like modded GTA:V

    • +1

It’s integrated graphics, not ideal for gaming.

      • That's what the gaming handheld like the Legion go uses.

    • It's about 30% slower than the 880m, so somewhere around the 1050ti performance. GtaV should be pretty playable.

  • +3

I maybe in the minority but I don't trust the longevity of OLED screens on laptops. Wish they had a similar spec non-oled option as well.

    • My oled tablet has been on for 4 years and is still as good as day 1

      • +1

It depends what you are doing with it.

If you spend 8 hours a day in a code editor without dark mode, the screen will degrade noticeably. If you only do a bit of gaming + netflix everyday, then the device will probably be e-waste before you notice any degradation.

  • Is the whole body metal?

  • -1

    No Fingerprint Reader…

    • +1

They don't seem to put the fingerprint reader on the ideapads much anymore, maybe they just get people to use Windows Hello with the webcam?

  • The extra $20 for wifi 7 /Bluetooth 5.4 is worth it

    • +1

      of course! more future proofing

      • Unless I plan to upgrade my home routers to wifi 7 within 3 years and I might but still don't see any benefits due to my average use cases and nbn speed limit.

  • Ooh or this for $1699 (if I can figure out how to make it work, ie get the advertised price).

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-5/ide…

The 140T in the 200H series is an improvement on the 140v iGPU and better than the AMD offering. For an additional $170ish, prior to cashback.

    • only 24gb ram and 512gb storage compared to the 32gb and 1tb in this deal. Are you sure?

      • For the newer processor and better iGPU.. my thoughts are yes.

I was able to get the price though their chat, cheaper through edu $1620, but because it’s a seperate quote - wouldn’t get cashback.

        • OP deal is $1279. I don't think an extra $420 is value for half storage, less ram but a tiny bit better chip.

          https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-compare/intel-core-ultra-7-255…

          • @evasive: Sorry if I led you astray, but if the actual link was working ($1699 before cashback) then it would be $1449 after cashback (which may not even work for the OPs deal based on others past experiences) I’d pay the difference. But yep each to their own. I want it more for the iGPU.

            • @PhoenixAUS: Do you have any further insight as to how much better the iGPU is? And does this intel chip run way hotter or worse battery?

              • @evasive: I was reading this comparison of the 140T vs the 140V.

                https://wccftech.com/intel-arc-140t-igpu-benchmarked-xe-lpg-…

And considered these, the 140V vs the iGPU in the AMD (860m).

                https://youtu.be/zFoa42yiY_0?si=Vn_wSL5ZgwrxkhpG

                https://youtu.be/JWati8uuyG4?si=mEUx7lW6_6Qxdva5

The 140V has much better FPS than the 860M in comparison and the 140T is an improvement on the 140V.

Example: the 720p The Last of Us benchmark on the 860M vs the same benchmark (at 1080p) on the 140V.

                Temps, unsure.

                • @PhoenixAUS: That's an Nvidia GTX 860M in the video you linked, not the radeon iGPU. Totally different thing.

Notebookcheck's comparison tool has the 140T (in the Xiaomi RedmiBook Pro 14 2025) as being 4% faster than the 860M across the games tested. From what I've seen, modern Intel igpus benchmark well but have poorer game optimisation, which often negates a lead on paper.

880M/890M models with high clocking ram are probably the best pick for gaming on an igpu these days, if you can grab them at a nice price.

                  • @snep: Oh no! Then I really had it all wrong. Thanks for the pick up. Still faster than the 860M.. but not to such extremes haha

                    • @PhoenixAUS: No worries, easy mistake to make when the names are the same. Don't get me started on RX 7600 vs Ryzen 7600 etc…

                      • @snep: @snep
The question now is what is better after cash back?
                        Option 1:
                        - Ryzen Ai 350
                        - 32GB RAM
                        - 1TB SSD
                        $1191.76 after cash back.

                        Option 2:
                        - Core Ultra 7 255H
                        - 24GB RAM
                        - 512GB SSD
                        $1275.46 after cash back.

I am leaning towards the intel, as you can upgrade the storage yourself, and the 255H seems to perform considerably better AND use less power.

                  • @snep: Yeah looking at the notebook check review and the section on fps, seems to be slightly worse than 140T but not particularly different.

I wonder if one of the chips gets way better in some other way (whether that's heat, efficiency, battery life etc) otherwise I see no reason to spend more for the intel variant

  • Thoughts for light gaming such as CS?

    • no problems with the 860m

  • Been considering the 16 inch version for basically the same price, but the two minor annoyances are only the 14 inch seems to have a glass trackpad. And reviews said the one on the 16 inch version is very very loud when you click on the Gen 9 version.

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-5/-le…

And the lack of a glossy IPS screen option. I'd prefer a small sacrifice for longevity. My current laptop is going on 12 years - and I'd expect to keep it long enough for OLED to be an issue.

    EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20VyS7eIrCg

It seems like the keyboard was upgraded from the Gen 9 version, but I can't find any reviews talking about if the trackpad was also changed in the new model…

  • Do we have any youtube review on this laptop with similar specs? All i am getting is of intel ones

    • My current laptop is going on 12 years

Terrific effort 👏 Any teachings you can give to the young chaps wanting their lappys to go the distance?…

    • Not Youtube, but the best you will probably get right now is Notebookcheck's review. However, for performance there are a couple of Ryzen ai 350 reviews for both mini-pcs and laptops that are up.

      • Thanks, right now in my mini pc i am using 7945hs rx. 350 ai is faster than that

You can get this for $1441.76 if you sign into your Lenovo account, add it to your cart on computer do the Wifi 7 upgrade option, then you will see an additional cart threshold saving of $107.24 - at this point, go to ShopBack app, click thru on Lenovo, sign in with your Lenovo account and the saved cart will be pulled up with the additional discount. Then proceed to buy and collect $205 cash back.

Total price is even less at $1191.76 after cash back.

Note: you can also add it to your cart in the ShopBack app while logged in, then go to your web browser on computer and login/navigate to cart, then the threshold extra discount will apply, then return to ShopBack app on phone and refresh cart. Then discount will also show that way.

    • I can't get the price to show $1441.76 even after changing wifi 7 upgrade, can someone help or @evasive ?

      • do it on a computer, not mobile browser. Make sure you are also signed into a Lenovo rewards account.

        • I did use a laptop and Chrome browser, but still not showing $1441.76 instead is still showing $1,549

          • @Spesial: Not sure. It worked for me and @PhoenixAUS

  • Update 2: You can also get the ideapad Pro 5i with:

    • Core Ultra 7 255H
    • 24GB RAM
    • 512GB SSD

    for $1525.46 before cash back

The question now is what is better after cash back?
    Option 1:
    - Ryzen Ai 350
    - 32GB RAM
    - 1TB SSD
    $1191.76 after cash back.

    Option 2:
    - Core Ultra 7 255H
    - 24GB RAM
    - 512GB SSD
    $1275.46 after cash back.

I am leaning towards the intel, as you can upgrade the storage yourself, and the 255H seems to perform considerably better AND use less power.

    • @evasive how did you get the lower option 2 by chance.. now I’m back looking at it again! Haha

NVM, got it. Had to tick an additional box. Nice find!

      • +2

Select the base model 5i with the 225H and 32GB RAM, then change the chip to 255H, and the RAM will change to 24GB and you'll have the option 2. AFAIK there doesn't seem to be a way too get the 255H with 32GB RAM or any more than 512GB storage.

The 225H without upgrade does come with 32GB RAM though, but I think the 225H probably isn't worth getting over the AI350.

Let me know what you think between option 1 or 2? It seems to be a bit of a toss up as to which chip is actually better, as the intel draws more power, but seems to be better PPW etc. Also its slightly better in gaming, but way better in graphics benchmarks.

        https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-compare/intel-core-ultra-7-255…
        https://www.notebookcheck.net/Ryzen-AI-7-350-vs-Ultra-7-255H…

    • I'm not able to get the extra discount in cart you're mentioning, while logged in on multiple browsers. Perhaps expired?

For me, 32gb ram would be the minimum these days so I would pass on the intel.

      • @snep

Extra cart threshold discount might be over now. Also, Yoga pro 7i aura edition 14” available with:
        255H
        32G/1TB
        Better OLED panel as well

For $1588 after cashback (slightly more without the cart threshold discount if that's over).

Probably the best option of the bunch, better build quality than the Ideapad also. Not sure why they say the battery lasts 4 hour less though, it’s the same battery size and chip…

        Thoughts?

        • I just wouldn't pay more for the intel chip here. Arrow lake has not exactly been a successful arch. Despite having compute tiles on a newer TSMC node it has substantially worse efficiency than strix point, and that's one of the more important laptop metrics IMO. Machine translated extract from David Huang's excellent deep dive:

Considering the 255H is an N3B processor while the HX 370 is N4P, the measured efficiency in this article is hardly satisfactory. Even ignoring factors like SMT, Lion Cove's performance clearly lacks sufficient advantage at high power, while being completely defeated at low power. In the Lunar Lake review comments, a reader suggested that N3B HP (High Performance) offers no advantage over N4P HD (High Density) at medium-to-low voltages.

While Lunar Lake's low-power design elements (like power-optimized MSC, MOP, PMIC, etc.) could mask Intel's microarchitectural efficiency issues, allowing its overall efficiency curve to approach AMD's processors, what excuses remain when Arrow Lake's Lion Cove exhibits such disastrous results at medium-to-low power?

Furthermore, why can AMD, using an older generation HD process to manufacture a not-so-large core, achieve single-threaded absolute performance and efficiency roughly equal to Intel's N3B HP core? What does this imply about the gap in microarchitectural design capabilities, and indeed, overall semiconductor engineering capabilities?

The above points target Arrow Lake's Lion Cove P-cores, but the Skymont E-cores also fail to reach an excellent standard. In the 8-core test, the 255H's Skymont cores, benefiting from N3B + 8 MB L2 + 24 MB L3, hold a huge specification advantage over the HX 370's Zen5c cores (N4P + 8 MB L2 + 8 MB L3). Yet, the final multi-threaded test results show that Intel's long-vaunted E-core strategy failed to defeat AMD's dense cores, even with so many inherent advantages.

          • @snep: @snep Yeah ill agree the 255H performance is quite similar to the Ryzen 350, however the GPU seems to be significantly better.

Are there new AMD chips out on the horizon? If so maybe I'll just wait for the next update.

            • @evasive: Medusa point is a year away from current rumours.

If graphics performance is a priority, you should probably look at models with beefier iGPUs. Could be a reason to go intel too, if pricing makes arrow lake attractive there.

              • @snep: What's more beefy than an Arc 140T in the 255H? Seems to be about the best iGPU?

                Easily on par with 880/890M.

                • @evasive: Obviously strix halo is in a totally different class, but it's also been very expensive thus far.

You're right, 140T is a strong igpu. Like I was saying if it's cheaper than the higher end strixes it could be a decent tradeoff to make.

                  • @snep: Ah yeah I see. Strix Halo looks cool. I can't see any Lenovo options using Strix Halo, but maybe I am blind.

I wonder if Strix Halo would have better or worse battery life than 255H…

  • dayum missed out. Do you think its still worth it with the 13.2% cashback with shopback?

    Thats if it eligible :/

    • You could do a lot worse
