I purchased this a couple of weeks ago so I'm gutted that it's now at an ATL price (typical I guess!). I can't vouch for it's effectiveness as I have yet to install this in my car.
I have compared this side by side to a like product from a certain Car Builders product and the only difference was that this foil seemed a little thinner (?) and the adhesive backing seemed a little easier to peel than the other (more dearer) retail product.
I am planning to use this on top of the Amazon Basics sound deadening butyl adhesive mat then lay the carpet back over it. What drew me to this product was that it was 10mm thick which seemed to be a preferred thickness across a few Youtube channels, as well as the price (not in that order of preference).
Again, can't vouch for it, but it's for my budget car restoration which doesn't need top dollar for this step.

    Product weight is 2.4kg so density = 4.8 kg/m³

    Water density 1000 kg/m3

Compare this to a Mass Loaded Vinyl product

Our 4kg Mass Loaded Vinyl is available in a 5 meter * 1350mm roll and comes in black or dark grey. A roll weighs 28kg. Half rolls are also available.

It's 30% extra length but more than 6 times the weight.

    • Would this work on bedroom windows? Would it also block out light?

    • Is the product you linked to the equivalent of the Amazon Basics Sound deadener which has an adhesive backing to a vinyl-ish material?

No that Amazon stuff is butyl rubber. That is used to stop car panels vibrating and re-transmitting noise, like the skin of a drum. It basically "deadens" the panel.

Whereas Mass Loaded Vinyl is used to stop noise propagating through the panel, or even in free air when hung like a curtain, which is the optimum method for MLV.

    • Is this correct? Cheap nasty carpet underlay is 50-60 kg/m³? Really good stuff is 120+ kg/m³???

Is it thick and strong enough to use as flooring fir home gym

    • Even if it was do you really want a foil covered floor?

  • If it really is only 2.4kg then it is a foam product not a mass-loaded product. Hence, will have very limited sound-deadening.

  • Could you use this in wall cavities for sound proofing?

Maybe now I can take the gag out…

I bought this for $80 last year for my bedroom windows, it does okay. Found it for $20 on temu since then, exact same product.
