In addition to the Ryzen 7700 deal I've organised another price drop on previously popular Ryzen 5700X for those who are still on the AM4 platform and looking to upgrade.

It has 8 cores, 16 threads, base clock of 3.4GHz, boost clock of 4.6GHz and a default TDP of 65W. While AM4, this CPU is still perfectly for gaming and multi-core tasks.

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD

  • local stock of these is around $250

good purchase, would just at it but curiois if the 5700x3D about to jump up on special sub $200aud

    • +12

Good luck trying to get a 5700X3D cheap. AliExpress sellers cleared out most of their inventory ages ago and now that it's ceased production the last inventory has skyrocketed.

      • damn :( thats why i havent seen in like 6 months

      • +2

If you're still using AM4 and looking for your final CPU upgrade, you're probably bottlenecked in other ways anyway and 5700X will be fine.

  • +2

Bought from this store in the last sale, was very poorly packed in just a little wad of foam but it works fine and seemed unused.

  • On 5600 any point upgrading to 5700x? Or will it be a barely noticeable upgrade/performance?

    • +2

What issue are you noticing exactly on the 5600?

    • if you're gaming not much of a point. productivity will be a little better if you can utilise it.

      • Will an upgrade from a 3300X to this improve World of Tanks? 32GB RAM, RX 570

        • depends on the resolution you play at. I'm unfamiliar on world of tanks probably be some youtube videos that will show you.

          • @frondono: I play at minimum settings and it's fine. Game smoothness is mostly determined by the ping, which is decent on Telstra and Vodafone, but not good with Optus. Other than that, it doesn't use much bandwidth, and it's pretty much a single-core intensive game (like most?).

Any hardware upgrades would be to see how things improve further and maybe allow me to allow more realism in the scenery, which I currently forego for performance. Ideally, I'll have a system where performance difference is negligible between minimum and maximum settings.

I heard this CPU was fairly good value, but I'm always curious as to how much of an investment in an upgrade would reap a noticeable difference. Also, curious as to where the first bottleneck would emerge, as I also have heaps of room in the graphics card department to play with.

I have way too many YT vids lined up and thought I could just quickly some free info here without trying to come up with search queries about something I'm not all that fussed about. Basically, I'll probably end up upgrading the CPU because I can, and something tells me I'll sooner or later get a cheap boost, but if someone who sounds like they know what they're talking about says, 'you won't notice anything', then I'll buy some KFC chips with extra seasoning.

            • @eloque: if you're playing at 1080p it would make some difference. higher resolutions not so much. if you could get your hands on a cheap secondhand 6800 xt that would be the best upgrade for a reasonable price. or something around that tier.

              • @frondono: a 5600 is all you need unless you can get a cheap 5700x3d

                • @frondono: Cheers, yeah, I think a 6800 xt would be good and the way to go. I'd love a 5700x3d, but they're probably hard to get cheap now, being discontinued and possibly sold out. Probably treasured by current owners, but I guess a few will probably move to AM5 eventually. I'm actually keeping my eye on ARM for my next build. Anyway, I'll look around. Thanks for the guidance.

                • @frondono: Looks like you can get 7900 XTXs for the same price and 7800 XTs for about half the price. 5700x3Ds are going for $429 at scorptec but under $200 with some Aliexpress sellers, although I still haven't dared purchase anything thru the latter site.

      No

  • Worth an upgrade from R5 3600? Motherboard - Asrock B550 Phantom Gaming 4. GPU - RX 5700XT. Cooler - Peerless Assassin 120 SE.
Really only considering as frames on my favourite game is terrible. CS2 - 240hz monitor but 120fps :(

    • +1

Yep there should be a noticeable improvement given the higher IPC and single core performance in the 5700X compared to 3600. Your cooler would be fine with the 5700X and I'd make sure the B550 BIOS is updated to support the 5000 series.

    • I got around 25-30% more fps in cpu limited games upgrading from the r5 3600. Also are you sure it's not a gpu bottleneck, what % utilisation does it sit at?

  • Anyone know if it is worth the upgrade from an r5 2600 with an rx 6700 (non-XT) for gaming?

    • +1

Yep basically what I said above to Dumb Dog. Make sure your mobo is 5000 series compatible and if so, updated to support it.

    • +2

      2600 (zen1+) to zen3 is a significant jump.

    • +1

I went from the same cpu, a 2600, to this one, a couple months ago on the last sale.

I have a 4060ti, so not too different.

I generally game at 4k / 2160p, (far from top gfx settings, but for 60+fps min rate at this res)

I noticed a huge difference. Returnal at 1080p went from 45/50 fps on the 2600 to 150+fps with the 5700x cpu.

      Helldivers2 at 4k went from ~60fps to a solid 75/80 fps.

    • Absolutely yes.

  • I've got a 3800x - this will give me 11% increased performance. Not sure if that's worth it.

    • if I had a 3800x I'd wait for an x3D upgrade path

  • +7

Thanks OP! Just bought one to replace my 1600 I've had since 2018.

    • +2

      nice performance boost

  • +1

Is everyone still getting this price? I'm only seeing US $145.78 and only one promo code can be applied.

    • +2

Same for me as well. Appears we may have missed the opportunity.

    • +5

Looks like the deal is over. I'll see if I can get an extension

      • Please do. Would love to grab one.

      • Could you get a deal on the 9800x3d pls

  • If you don't have a AM4 m/b, DDR 4 memory and don't mind pay a bit more… Get 7700 for $220 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/905461, it may cost around $100-$150 all up (with m/b, RAM), but it's a good upgrade as it's on lastest AM5 platform, upgrade path much better, performance much better.

    • Yes this only makes sense if you have an older AM4 system already

      • -2

Not really makes sense if you have an old 3700x or 3900x… don't really seeing the 'jump' LOL

        • this would be good to upgrade my techfast that came with 5500 (pcie3.0)

          • @AeymothSky: Yep definitely

            • @Clear: Hopefully I'll get the next deal.

Do you reckon it might drop further?

I'm not really in a rush to get one though, but it would be nice, I have a 5700x in my main system.

And a 8845hs that runs hot in my laptop would be the next best cpu i have, i think haha.

              • @AeymothSky: I don't anticipate further price drops. The AUD rate may improve.

                • @Clear: Cool, yeah either way still a great deal,

Looks like I paid $291.50 from an shopping express deal back in December 2022. For a 5700x

        • I bought this in the last deal, and sold my old 3700x on eBay for 120 something. Pretty happy with it.

          • @ricol: Insane, that's a fantastic resell. I might try that as well with my 5600.

        • I've got a 3900X, so this would be an OK upgrade? I originally wanted a 5700X3D, but it seems you can't get them anymore?

    • +1

      AM4 has a lower entry price machinist AM 4 MB ($80) + 5700X ($131) +ddr4 ram ($65) is total of $280.

      Cheapest AM5 is almost double that motherboard ($150) + 7700 ($220) and crucial ddr5 ram ($125), totalling of $500.

      • Yea am5 motherboards jumped a tonne while ddr4 ram dropped like a stone.

If you dont intend to upgrade for a very long while when am6 is out, am4 is still very compelling.

        • I also simply find it more cost effective to buy end of life gear. Am5 is a pretty big jump, but I'll be bottleneck by the GPU is majority of the games.

And this is coming from a simulation/strategy gamer, where my games are often bottlenecked by CPU. My 5600 is sufficient for now.

  • +1

Damn, that was quick. Missed out.

  • +1

This deal still seems to be live. I was just able to purchase.

  • Just ordered it, says 13 available now.

  • Just ordered one A$131.71
Plus 12% CR waiting for track.

    • It's not an affiliate link is it?

      • idk what u mean by that but no?

I opened the cashrewards app and click on the aliexp thingy, in the app press the open (aliexp) and then checkout in aliexp :D

got an email like ten mins later with the tracking confirmed :D

        • Cashback rules for AliExpress are the individual products need to be affiliated in order for the cashback to be valid.

You can chuck in item links to https://portals.aliexpress.com/linkchecker.htm to see which ones qualify

          • @twig: then i guess it is affiliated,

idk so far, most choice items etc are usually eligible so that works :D

            • @AeymothSky: I just checked the link https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006997220285.html and it is not, so no cashback I think.

              • @kajidzz: Idk then man

My last couple aliexp orders, they track w cashrewards app and have been approved

Not sure if the affiliate thing is different then?

              • @kajidzz: Important: Cashback is eligible only on purchase of affiliate products. Check product eligibility on this link by entering the product ID or URL.

Ah on cashrewards site it does say that,

I guess it won't be approved then?

But it did track. Oh well i guess I'll see what happens.

I'm just hoping it arrives and works properly no issues either way.

  • looks like all 3 codes are used up

    • Codes didn't work when I went through Shopback but worked without it.

      • Yes you are right, I clicked through CR and could not use the code. I ended up using AUOZ10 before I saw your post.

  • Worth upgrading from Ryzen 5 1600?
    ROG Crosshair VI Extreme Motherboard
    Occasional gaming, mostly productivity..

    Thanks in advance

    • +2

      Yeah that'd be ideal.

Don't forget to update your bios first of course.

  • Doesn't work for me just comes up code is single use only it originally applied but when I went to click purchase the code no longer worked.
