I think you meant to make the Hilux sound like a better option, but failed.

  • +3

The real question is why would you order this over a GWM Alpha Hybrid, given the recent furore over off road capability/towing?

    • +3

That godawful massive badge is a deal breaker

    • +3

Better on road experience, drives like an EV

    • GWM has the spare tire sitting in the tray, and the tray has a bump in the middle where the battery sits, so it'd be a pain to slide things in and out.

If it didn't have these 2 issues I'd get it over the Shark. I never tow anything (my last ute didn't even have a towbar), so the sharks towing capacity isn't really an issue for me.

I bet a load of BE posters got a semi when they saw this deal on their favourite ute built by serfs of the CCP.

  • +5

I rather people drive these Ute. No red light slow starter and less emission if used correctly.

  • Chinese government smart getting into electric vehicle production.. they are making a killing off their companies they own

    • +2

BYD actually get a heap of government subsidies.

The strategy isn’t about making a ‘killing off the companies they own’, it’s about building local capabilities and undercut other markets.

      • Blah blah blah that sounds like a bunch of sour grapes from people who listen to western propaganda. Let me guess you also believe that China stole American jobs?

      • +3

they indeed do offer many incentives in the form of low interest loans, subsidies, special tax treatments etc but this is common practice - the US and most countries do this for a variety of reasons. in the US for example there is massive 7500 tax credit on EVs/Teslas.

        • and no middle dealers = another 20%-30% cut?

BYD could still beat them up in price in US if they allow lol.

I watched a youtube video something about how yes investing in EV tech, then making LifePO4 extremely high quality but cheap. in china they release a new EV model every 3 days.

towards the end it mentioned they are investing/creating new battery tech now, I think Lithium Manganese Iron and Sodium Ion battery (currently larger and heavier than LifePO4 but they are working on designing it to be smaller and lighter).

The real world highway fuel consumption seems waaayy off.

  • Wish they offered this finance deal for personal customers.

Is there a voice version of this that I can listen to?>

The GWM Alpha especially the diesel and the upcoming PHEV slap hard and people are clamoring all over it. Only issue I have with it is the massive American type front grill but there are black out kits available now. I drove the Hybrid one and even though I am not the biggest fan of Chinese cars…..yet, this one is slowly convincing me that at this moment no other Ute can compete with the GWM on price, performance, tech, long warranty and cheap servicing. The upcoming PHEV model will be even better than the Hybrid. I am just afraid if I drop $70K on the GWM, my high class street neighbours will laugh at me because they all buy high yield vehicles like the BMW 318i, Audi A4 1.8L and the Mercedes C class 1.8L. I am afraid they will make fun of me for buying a Chinese car.

  • I'd love to see a pure EV FCB 5 or 8. The styling is much boxier, like the Shark, which is terrible for aero but nice aesthetically

    • In my case a iCaur V23 will suit me fine for less.

  • Good value for the price. Only things that hold it back, is the towing capacity and going off road. It has some problems going up trickier hills.

  • How is the BYD driving assistance? I know it's not at Tesla's level.

And how is the sale so far on Shark 6?

    • Tested myself, Australia versions have no lidar, so don't expect to have any free upgrade to God Eye self-driving like in China plus not approving by gov any time soon. The current driving assistant on one lane is just ok, works better with enough daylight and visible lane dash lines, and with mostly high precautions.

New Tesla Y took back the top sale and a lot with their whole new design. Tho their FSD has had some serious issues here that people are taking them to the court.

  • Anyone here own a byd shark and can share personal experience? I am on the fence here with the 2% finance - that is insanely good value (along with the base price) for a PHEV UTE. I have driven it and it drives reasonably well - easy enough to manuver on open roads - but parking is another matter entirely. Going to have to spend some time parking due to sheer size and getting used to manuevering.
