  • Just received my dads 65" "box damaged".. it was perfect, not a scratch on the box so maybe repacks?

Works perfectly. DHL experience was fairly good. ebay store has its fair share of negs but a lot seem to center around refurbs

    • the first 10 negative reviews seem weighted 8:2 to shipping, particularly around edge cases of islands girt by see and i wanna be different and pick it up because i'm a thorn
*TV purchased on 30th April & estimated to be delivered by 8th May. 8th May rolls around & still no TV but a message from Sony to say courier will contact you to arrange delivery.

*Sony, a HUGE international corporation, couldn't figure out how to ship the TV to an Australian address that's not on the mainland.

*The promised delivery of 2 to 4 days is false - you end up dealing with their 3rd party transport agency DHL who no matter how many times you call

*Good TV but Sony Australia dropped the ball on delivery. Wouldn't let me pick it up. Charged $99 to bring it about a 1 hr drive across Sydney.

*Shipping is via DHL & the driver was so hopeless he delivered a completely different model. We rang the recipient of this model (which is displayed on a sticker on the box), who said he also received yet another person's TV

To be honest I purchased Box Opened TV and was happy with the experience, I wouldn't doubt a refurb could have problems with screws missing, different packaging than new, or hardware faults that redeveloped at delivery.

So if you need a TV in 5 days, best drive to good guys

    • do they have anything smaller? i just need a 40 to 50 inch in a bedroom nothing bigger than that.

Why are 2023 Sony TV's still so expensive? Is Sony still the Toyota of TV's?

    • +5

Nah, it's always the Porsche of the TV's ;)

      • lol no where near that level of quality. there are far better displays you can get

    • They never been anything like it.

    • Sony thinks they are the Merc's of tvs though.

  • Are these good enough to put outdoors ? Under Patio ?

    • I am looking at this use case too. If it’s just for watching cricket and the footy is it even worth spending this much or should I get a low end TCL?

  • +1

Very good value for a very solid model.

  • No 100 inch

  • How entry level are these tvs? Thinking of one for my parents

    • The best non-miniLED, non-OLED TV. Other comments say 5-10% worse than the cheapest Sony miniLED.

      • How do they compare to TCL QLED like C655?

        • Likely better than TCL QLED and worse than TCL Mini-LED

  • Wonder if these are 120Hz or 144hz

    • +4

I found the answer in about 30seconds

    • Neither, 100Hz

      • Incorrect. 120Hz. Source: My X90L.

  • Dang it, I just spent $1,600 on a 65" TCL mini led last week

    • +1

TCL mini led is much better in my opinion. these are from 2023.

      • This makes me feel much better. Thank you

    • +2

I wouldn't worry, all the professional reviewers have TCL mini-leds as better. Most who disagree are not being objective (e.g not having experience with both, Sony fans, anti-China brands etc).

The processing may have been enough to make a case against the 2023 TCL model (I'd still favour the TCL), but it's not close with 2024 and 2025 TCLs - the TCLs are better

      • Thanks for the reassurance. I got the TCL855 because my other TCL blew up (literally made a large bang sound).

So far very happy with it. Great image and very fast, although my old one started fast and got slow

  • Is an LG C4 or C5 65” worth almost double this?

    • Depends on your use case. Video games yes absolutely. Movies enthusiast maybe. Sports and general tv no.

      • Is this better for sports or are you just saying image quality doesn't matter that much if you're only watching sports so not worth paying double?

        • Just if you’re only watching sports I wouldn’t pay double for this as the benefits of OLED are not as valuable in a largely uniform green image. Though rtings does review this television as particularly good for watching sport.

    • +4

If you’re asking the question, then probably not. It’s worth it for those that want the best picture quality and deepest blacks. If you don’t already notice that blacks a slightly grey on LED tvs, then this tv will be fine. For those of us that have gazed into the inky void of oled and can no longer un-see those grey-blacks of led…the grey haunts us…gnaws at our minds… it’s a dripping tap as you lay in bed staring at the ceiling at 3am…for us there is no choice…

      • Yes I'm worried about going to OLED and not being able to go back. Although they keep getting cheaper and cheaper so may not really be a problem.

        • +3

Once you go black, you never go back

  • Box damaged is a word for a returned, repacked TV.

Sony Key Facts: 3rd most valuable firm in Japan. https://companiesmarketcap.com/japan/largest-companies-in-ja…

Most their gear is made by contractor Foxcon (here is your conn)

To keep their retailers happy they want them to have the latest stuff on display. Old models get dumped on sites like this.

Yep they still have an electronics R&D team in Japan, they actually make some profitable medical stuff.

Main revenue they get from banks, insurance and alcohol deals. Worth spending money to keep the brand in front of people eyes.

    • Box damaged is a word for a returned, repacked TV.

Does not correlate to one of your sentences below

To keep their retailers happy they want them to have the latest stuff on display. Old models get dumped on sites like this.

My understanding is its to clear stock, as you have mentioned. Previously opened boxes they mark on ebay as refurb

      • nah refurb means repaired. Cheap contractor makes some going out of many faulty ones. Generally parts come from a totally independent contractor in Melbourne.
I had endless dealings with them jokers in the Chullorah warehouse.
Clients who pay full price get never opened boxes, once opened they sell as box damaged

        • Is refurb better than open box? If the box is opened there may be a problem that they didn't fix or some part missing that the customer didn't put back in. Refurb means they've fixed it and made sure it works perfectly?

  • +1

Sony sells damaged boxes, refurbs. How do other brands handle those? It seems to be only Sony.

  • I bought a box damaged Sony 55 inch OLED awhile back, the box was definitely damaged and I feared the worst but hey, all good, not a scratch all in wraps brand new
And TV is working two years now without any issues.
