No idea about this brand but its the cheapest 5090 I've seen out in the wild albeit its from Amazon UK so not sure if warranty and all of that is the same.

LOL this is like a Lamborghini having a 5% discount.

    • +15

      Link please!

        • Surely not

    • +3

i dont think people who buy lambo's care if there is a 5% discount, or any discount

      • +5

Yep. Mercedes has done this for the past couple years. No negotiation, the price = the price.

        • +2

Mercedes has done this for the past couple years

Thought it was pretty much all makes and models due to the shortages etc.

        • Same as Toyota.. therefore Toyota = Lambo?

      • +2

in all seriousness, lambo buyers don't want the one that's on discount, or even available this year at MSRP. the exclusivity is the whole point.

    • It is a good deal for AI developers and power users.

    • moon lambo moon lambo, token token, use case use case, block chain bro, blockchain, buy buy buy.

  • +9

From personal experience, Palit seems like a solid brand. I've had no issues with my Palit 3060 Ti over the past four years.

i save the most when i dont buy lol

      The real ozbargain member.

      • +1

I thought the real ozbargainer buys first and thinks later.

        • -1

          That was so 2024.

    • I feel better now thinking about the 2k+ I paid for a 6900XT

  • +9

Just remember you wont be able to play older games with PhysX at 100%
Unless if you have a 2nd gtx/rtx card.
Yes you can put your older RTX 4090 install in 2nd PCIe slot and use that for PhysX 😀

    • +6

I still don't understand why Nvidia did that? Was there an official reason given?

      • +1

Don’t quote me, but I happen to remember it being like ray tracing but way back when, in terms of it being a new game rendering technology that was developed and available on GPUs, enabling it came with a performance hit (like Raytracing), I think game developers didn’t adopt it like they have raytracing so most modern games don’t actually implement it anymore and older games that do have it have it as an option that you can toggle on, like ray tracing (though some modern titles are forcing raytracing of course)

So, I don’t think it’s the biggest deal

      • +5

PhysX is 32-bit CUDA; their CUDA architecture is 64-bit only now

    • +1

It's not as simple, given how many slots each 4090 and 5090 use.
I had to use a PCIe riser cable and make a custom bracket in the full tower case for a similar setup.

    Missing ROPs edition?

    • -1

could be the 1 in 1,000,000 bonus ROPs version - buy it and let us know 😂

  • +4

So what if you get less ROPs that was advertised, you will have to return it all the way to Amazon UK?! https://www.techpowerup.com/332884/nvidia-geforce-rtx-50-car…

    • I think it is very very unlikely this is from the earlier batches with the ROPs issues, these things have sold out instantly, everywhere.

  • Using this for local AI. very good.

    • One of those LLMs? What's the local ai useful for?

      • +6

yes Local LLM, text to speech, text to image, image to video, a lot of things you can do. its becoming a hobby now.

Some ALibaba shop managed to mod this into a 96GB VRAM version just for AI

        • which LLM are you using?

          • +3

@jar-unit: Qwen3 32b Q4 just fits on the 5090 vram with a reasonable context window

      • +4

Video upscaling and also Stable DIffusion. Topaz AI just released their new and most powerful local AI model Starlight Mini. I tested it, it brings my RTX 3080 (10GB vram) to a complete standstill. I sure wished I had a 5090 to test it out.

        • yes theres so many things coming up in the local AI space, almost daily. its very exciting and a good new hobby for me so yeh spending 5k on this hobby isnt too bad compared to other hobbies.

          • +2

@Jaduqimon: woah. Sounds fascinating. Any good resources for a starting point for an absolute beginner?

            • @seamonkey: What gpu do you have? Can just look up some youtube videos to get started. Thats how i got started a few months ago lol

              • @Jaduqimon: Don't have one at all that's worth speaking of. Got the wife a 5950x and a ASUS ROG Strix X870-I but refused to get a GPU that could handle anything more than Minesweeper because it was during the covid days, and the 5950x was a bargain at somewhere around ~$1400 the magically made it through all these years with I don't even know what it is, it's probably worth $30 bucks the current GPU. Which is amazing because she actually teaches graphic design and spends a lot of time in Adobe, in short we delayed the purchase but can't really get away with it for much longer.

        • I use Topaz Gigapixel AI a lot for image upscaling, but I'll have to check out Starlight Mini. It seems like a great option for Apple Silicon users and others that can use unified memory.

@skittlebrau: It’s worth looking at a 4060/5060ti 16gb for ai stuff, or even a 3060 (or any 12gb nvidia card) if you want to tinker. I’ve and some decent results with oobabooga but I’m still learning.

It’s also worth noting that there might be some cuda interoperability issues with the 5xxx as well - my 5060ti I had to get some newer drivers and different versions of PyTorch (from memory)

If you’re starting out, I actually found it useful to use a combination of both reddit and chatgpt - explain your objectives to chatgpt and it’s fairly decent at pointing you in the right direction (I’m using 4o, though)

Huggingface also has a rating system where you can also state what card you have on your profile and it’ll tell you the chances you have of running the model. I’ve also found that following certain individuals on there that release models is good as well. (The drummer etc)

I’m starting out myself, but if you’ve got any experience with stable diffusion you’ll pick it up quick

+1 for this post too, I’d love a 5090 but 4.5k random pc part purchases are no longer something I can get away with

            • @Wally Simmonds: Thanks, I'm definitely looking at minimum 16GB (ideally higher) for a future GPU for flexibility sake. Thanks for the other tips too!

  • +13

    HAHAHAHA.

So house, then car and now GPU?

    • +8

30 year mortgage for GPU when

      • Within 3 years

    • The GPU has over taken the wife's spot!! Now 4th placed! Lol

  • +9

    High yeild investment GPUs.

Certainly Nvidia FU pricing to consumers over data centres.

    • +5

Kinda funny how PC gamers all though their worries would be gone once crypto mining died off a bit… Then alone came AI 😅

  • +2

Between this and the tech fast pre build deal - seems to make more sense than ever to HODL.

RRP local stock 5090 will be here within a month.

  • +15

I mentally purchased one and then regretted it.

  • Only 2 left in stock

  • +5

    gone up in price?

    • +4

      Yup, show's over

  • +3

    $5799 now

  • looks like gone

  • +2

for that price, I demand four fans.^_^

    • +3

For that price I demand cooling by a thousand little angels!

  • Nice managed to buy 4 =)

  • did anyone actually buy?

    • Yup I got 2 for mining as I have free electricity from solar and battery setup

      • What do you mine nowadays?

        • Whatever is highest profitability on nice hash and convert to Bitcoin weekly

          • +2

@Pandabargain: $1.50 profit a day according to NiceHash. That is assuming electricity is free and you can't export to grid.

Seems like a bad investment, unless I am missing something.

            • +3

@Aureus: Then after taxes and wear and tear on the card…

Might be better off just buying bitcoin directly

  • Wow, is that what graphic cards are costing these days??

    • +1

Only the highest end cards, but yes.

    • +1

No, it's not what graphics cards cost these days. It's what nvidia have done with their halo 5090 product to try and inflate prices across the board.

A 5070ti is still top end and can be had for ~$1500, or AMD's competitor can be had for under a grand. And the stack goes down depending on your budget.

      • Yet I paid $400+ for a used 6700XT and I'm already complaining about the high cost!

      • Putting that $1500 price tag into context https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090

Keeping prices equivalent, performance has increased by 20% to 30% over a period of 5 years. Obviously performance has increased multiple times more than that, it just isn't available for sale at reasonable prices. Prices have inflated so significantly that consoles can increase in price and continue to sell, something that has never occurred before.

      • Not at all regretting my used 4080 super purchase. Only paid $1370 for it before the 50 series dropped.

  • +2

Has anyone asked this yet………..can it play Crysis?

  • Damn.! Missed this one

  • +1

Still rocking 1080ti rog strix. Maybe next-gen will be time to upgrade.

    • 1080Ti AORUS here!

  • Goodluck with warranty when the card burns..

  • Looks like my lunchbox when I was 10 years old

  • LOL! 4.5k? Get stuffed.

  • 5080 = $2000… 5090 that's around 27% faster (in 4K) = $4500 or if buying locally $6000. Makes complete sense. Too bad it's out of stock.

    • 27%…… That's funny

  • Horrible design from a cheap AIB
