Anyone else getting a message about not reaching a certain spend threshold to use PayPal, and therefore having to pay by a different method?

    • What was the value?

      • +2

Yesterday was for 3 items totalling $16 and today was for 4 items totalling $17. Both times I wasn't able to use PayPal (these last 2 times were a 1st for me not being able to use PayPal via the AliExpress app).

Here's a screenshotAnd the strange thing is, the only option for PayPal is to pay in 4?

        • Yep getting the same result as you in metro Vic. I was getting the pay on 4 option only but through PayPal you can change to pay in one.

Shame they have removed PayPal for small purchases but I can only imagine the fees. Ali have always been good in my experience in refunding so somewhat trust worthy.

        • I get that for PayPal Pay in 4 but not PayPal itself (if you scroll down). I always use the desktop site or app and never the mobile site, as it has less money saving features (Coins discount page).

          • @Clear: Can you elaborate on the savings features?
Also, any chance Onti is on that brand list? Fell asleep whilst checking out and I'm kicking myself! Would've been a 10G switch for $25 OOP!

        • +3

If you place order without selecting a payment method, and then leave the page, it'll give you something like 24 hrs (?) to pay for the item. Then you can login to desktop instead of the app and it'll still be there and you can select PayPal (no pay in 4 bs) to pay. I did this just last night on some $13 item (that was like 45% off in the coins page), and had the same problem being unable to pay until I did the above.

          • @Halsmich: I think I'll just delete the app and use the desktop version from now on. At least I now know the issue is not just on my end.

            • @Lizard Spock: I was having similar issues like this for a while, which got to the point I could no longer pay through the app and I would have to pay via desktop similar to Halsmich said. Turns out my account got flagged for payment method verification on a recently added card but I didn't get TOLD this… I had to ask support chat before I found the problem and they could do the verification which then fixed the rest of the payment methods including Paypal.

You'll want to keep the app specifically for coins, since that's the only way to find and checkout with the really big coin discounts (40%-95%) unfortunately.

          • @Halsmich: Good call, doesn't seem to affect cashback tracking either.

        • +1

On the website (on PC), you can click on "more payment options" and normal PayPal should still be there.

But it does seem like they are making it more difficult, for some reason.

    • I’m getting errors paying with PayPal and even with card and Apple Pay today, anyone else?

      • Errors on desktop or app?

        • On app, trying to use coins discount

    Add 20% fake gst

      • I might even slightly pay attention to this when 'they' stop having unnecessary daily canapes & horderves in Canberra.

    • +3

You're being ripped off, AliExpress only charges me 17.5% GST. ;-)

I don't know how they get away with this.

      • +3

easy, we keep buying, they keep charging. even with the high gst, it still comes out cheaper then anything locally.

      • +2

Because everytime someone complains here and I provide the means to report it, people downvote me. It's like they don't even care about the issue and just want something to complain about.

        • Even if we do what you ask, will it make a difference?

          • +6

@SeanConnery: Whinge on OzBargain where the ATO and AliExpress won't see it, or have heaps of people contact the tip off line that there's GST fraud occurring. Which one do you think is more likely to grab attention and make a change?

I'm happy to hear a better alternative that could resolve this issue if anyone knows of something.

          • +1

@SeanConnery: The only way to make a difference is to report it.

        • didn't downvote you. merely brought it to others' attention. i didnt question it until someone asked about it last deal

      • +2

I reported this problem when I purchased something during a recent sale. Even provided screenshots. All I got was the obligatory "We have to charge tax on all purchases, we've escalated this to blah, blah, blah" spiel, even though I clearly stated I was charged far more than the 10% tax I should've been charged.

In seriousness though, even with the tax charges, it was far cheaper than local stock.

    • +8

Two options. Whinge on OzBargain where nothing will change or go through the only way to stop it. I'll save you a step by telling you that their Platform GST number is 3000 1251 4525 for easier identification.

      • +3

And to clarify further, their platform GST number is their Australian Reference Number (ARN) that non-residents can apply for to charge GST without an ABN.

      • OK, thanks for that, Clear.

I went through the process on the ATO - for those others complaining, it's a quick process to fill in their form, please also report AliExpress.

        • direct link to tip off form

          what options do we select?

ATO & TPB or just ATO?

is there a somewhat template response of what to report?
          miscalculation of GST?

  • Receive error - This code isn't quite valid yet

    • +1

On the Ali site it says starts in 22hrs & 22mins from now.

      • Ended up putting two and two together! The original post said it started on 19th 5pm AEST so got a little confused.

  • +2

Are you sure it doesn't start tomorrow 5pm? My banner shows a countdown ending tomorrow.

Gotta make sure the power users are awake. Yeah I forgot what day it was.

  • When this sale starts any idea how long it will last for? Is it one week?

  • Are these codes allowed with any cashback offers?

    • Yeah

Ah, AliExpress used to be great—until they recently started using Dragonfly Shipping. Apparently, Dragonfly doesn’t deliver to my location. Instead of contacting me or offering an alternative, they just return the parcel without notice. As a result, I’m stuck waiting nearly two months before I can even file a claim for a refund. It’s incredibly frustrating.

    • Fast horse does that too after 2 "attempts". I sent aliexpress the screen shots of txt msgs and forwarded emails of being returned to sender (Ali). Also got them to check if parcel has been received which of course it hadn't. I got my refund processed immediately. With fast horse people have gone to the warehouses and found their parcels there in the big bins. I've given up using my office address due to the attempted deliveries at 10pm at night on weekends. I'd rather take my chances with them throwing my parcel from the road to the doorstep. Amazon also uses dragonfly sometimes for goods purchased from Amazon US etc. They said they don't contact the courier and I have to, as it's a third party.

  • Very timely OP..had been wondering how to get an x 200 pro at less than the 1000 mark.. this along with a new cashback 50 dollars gets it there for the 12/256 model with Chinese ROM.. thanks.. the Autumn sale 50 dollar was not applicable.. this one is

    • Looks like I celebrated early .. the label is their but it does not work. Tried a few different vendors at different price points, a few different models looks like cell phones are not a part of this "sale" which is a pity given the advancement in phone tech the Chinese have over Samsung and Iphones, specially in cameras . May have something to do with our 3g phase out which they keep harping about on the adverts though I have no idea why a 5g phone is impacted.. well does not really matter since the cashback of 50 dollars from topcashback for new users is now 30 dollars as well :-D I shall never pay more than 1k for a phone so will have to wait and see

  • anyone have recommendations for DIY arcade/joystick set?

Looking to build this one, https://makerworld.com/en/models/520967-arcade-controller-fi… but can't seem to find the same kit linked on amazon

  • And none of the codes actually work with AMD CPU's anyway :/

  • Have tried AUFS25 on a couple of 7700 listings with the Brand Savings Big Save banner - not working at the moment, checkout says code can't be used in conjunction with other discounts. Hope I'm not doing something wrong.

    • No they just lied as per usual

      • shame, they have a couple of CPUs listed under top deals of the sale promo page

    • Yeah same says coupons can't be used with brand savings 7700 and normal big save 7700 CPUs

      • Can't find a single AMD cpu that works with the coupons.

        • Have tried the codes on other items and they work fine, seems to just be blocked for AMD CPUs

          • @topjeggles: That's pretty bullshit, just tried it on a random gigabyte motherboard and it worked but tried on multiple AMD CPUS and nothing works

  • Doesn't seem to apply to the Lenovo Pad

  • After failing to get the codes to work with AMD CPUs I tried a motherboard to see what would happen and I got this error - >

Sorry, the coupon code you entered is based on a first come first served basis and has been used up by other shoppers. Please enter a different coupon code or explore other discounts on AliExpress.

maybe wishful thinking but maybe they fix the issue by tomorrow. :D

  • Any negotiated mini pc deals @Clear?

    Soyo, dual NIC options?

    • Nothing really standing out at the moment. We need a proper sitewide sale for the cheaper prices like before.

  • Coupons do not appear to work as advertised, at least not for the item I have tried it on even though it seems to meet the only criteria of "Coupons are valid for [Brand Savings] items".

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003844532181.html

"This coupon code can't be used in combination with other discounts"

    • +1

Yeah seems it excludes Big Save products. The easiest way to tell without going to checkout is looking for the red discount banner under the price. Big Save don't have it.

      • I was foolish for sleeping on the last round of coupons, but I didn't know they were limited in their usage. I was excited to have a second chance so soon after missing out.

        • +1

Normally the sitewide sales are mid-month with these limited sales at the beginning and end of the month.

  • "Unable to apply promo code. The total after discount (excl. shipping) doesn't meet the minimum purchase amount."

im clearly over the threshold though

    • What price is the product ex shipping and GST?

  • So i'm trying to use the AUFS65 / $65 coupon

    Check out is:

    Subtotal $845.07
    Shipping:$56.31
    Tax: $88.55
    Total $974.21

    • It's not a sitewide sale. You would have ineligible products in your cart and whichever ones are don't meet the minimum spend combined.

  • +1

Sad athat it does not work on AMD CPUs :(

  • +1

Getting an error saying the code is for single use only.

    • +1

Had that when I tried too
