Anyone flown on this airline before?

    • I spoke with a mate on Friday who has. He said no issues, well worth the savings.

He stayed overnight in Shanghai for free as part of his travel through China with China Southern.

      yeah

they're fine. No better or worse than most other airlines

    • Taken this exact trip before, to GZ then AMS. Flight to GZ is almost 10 hours, and the next leg is 12-13 hours. Might want to consider overnight or extended layover in GZ so you can rest up a bit before continuing on.

Planes can seem a bit older though its been quite a few years since taking this trip.

    • We flew with them last year to Rome. Service is decent; on par with the smaller Asian airlines but nowhere as good as SIA or JAL or Cathay. the A350s they use are new; the 787s are slight older and not as comfortable.

Transit through Guangzhou airport was a bit annoying as you had to scan a QR code to fill in a form just to pass through their temperature check gates before security for the transit lounge, at least the new terminal now has more food options and a convenience store too where they take foreign credit cards.

Get the cheap flight and spend at the destination.

    • Yes a few times, they are totally fine

Guangzhou airport is a bit time consuming with way too many staff needlessly checking your passport, and all your suitcases for tiny cell batteries that will definitely explode and bring the plane down

Flew with them to LHR this time last year. 3 of the 4 flights were on their new A350 and they were very comfortable, I'm over 6 foot and an ex-front row forward and found the seats to have loads of width and legroom. 1 leg on the older 787s that was more than ok. Service was good, as good as most airlines. All flights were on time which is the main thing for me. We had a 8.5 hour stopover on the way in CAN. Managed to get a exit visa out of the airport to a hotel near by for a quick nap and shower before heading back to the airport for our flight to LHR. Would fly with them again without hesitation.

      • lol @ 787s now being considered "old". I flew on 757, 747-200s and DC-10s, now those are old planes.

I have flown them many times to Europe and have always found them to be good. On time, good food, good selection of movies, very generous luggage allowance and honestly you just cant argue with the prices. I've also gotten the free hotel for a long stopover (over 8 hours) which was also fine. Last year I booked to Rome and had a long stop but my booking class didnt allow me to get the free hotel, so I booked a hotel at the airport and had a shower and sleep for a couple of hours before the next leg for less than $100. I recommend them :)

  • Do these random third party flight people ever work though? the 1 star reviews and all the negativity around them makes them sound like bullshit

    • +2

Aunt Betty is owned by Fight Centre - if that makes you feel more secure.
In general they are fine as long as everything is fine. Its when you need to make changes that it can get difficult

    • +1

Do they work? Yes. However the last 2 times I’ve used them I’ve needed changes and making contact with them is almost impossible. Call centre staff who don’t understand the English language, don’t let the fact they’re owned by flight centre lull you into a false sense of security. I’ll never touch them with a 10 foot pole ever again. For context I’m referring to Aunt Betty, I have no comment on others.

  • Good deal for that time of year.

The only option close to this price is China Airlines (of Taiwan) to Rome or Vienna on a handful of days.

  • Any sale on business fare?

    • Why would someone downvote this comment?

  • By the way I haven't flown in a while but I remember when the pilot(s) used to stand at the front of the plane and greet the passengers as they boarded/exited the plane. Why isn't this a thing anymore?

  • I have flown with them. They are very good. Enough space polit service etc
Shanghai airport limited things…very boring airport but enough space to have a nap etc
