  • What is this body in line with comparing to the Nikon Z series?

    • -2

Nothing exactly. It's a very capable sensor (same as r6ii) however in a very basic body - veeeery light however.

Think of your most basic mirrorless camera, stick in a FF sensor, that's what the R8 is.

Z5ii would be the nearest Nikon in price, maybe marginally slower AF (both cameras fast though) but full featured body with IBIS, nice EVF and dual SD slots. It is heavier though.

      Google Gemini says:

The Canon EOS R8 is best compared to the Nikon Z5 in terms of similar full-frame mirrorless cameras and their price range. The Nikon Z6 II and the Sony a7IV are also mentioned as comparable, but the R8 is positioned in the middle of the higher and lower-end options. The R8 is considered a replacement for the EOS R and EOS RP models, but it's also seen as a step up from the Z5, with features like in-body image stabilization.
      Key Considerations:
      Nikon Z5:
The Z5 is a great entry-level full-frame option, while the R8 offers a more refined experience.
Nikon Z6 II and Sony a7IV:
These are higher-end options that offer more features and capabilities than the R8, including IBIS.
      Nikon Z52:
This new model is also being compared to the R8 and is seen as a strong contender, especially for its sensor and color reproduction.
Canon EOS R8 vs Nikon Z5:
The R8 is slightly larger and heavier, but has a more traditional SLR-style body, while the Z5 has a fully articulated screen, higher resolution EVF, and longer battery life.
      Canon EOS R8 vs Nikon Z f:
The Z f is considered a better-built camera with a higher-resolution screen, EVF, and burst rate, but the Canon has better video specs and a more familiar design.
Canon EOS R8 vs Nikon Z6:
Both are great full-frame models, with the Nikon being a higher-end model with better ergonomics and build quality, while the Canon offers more portability and video features.

        Sorry but Gemini sucks 🤣

Aside from "opinions", multiple actual facts are wrong there.

Whats with ppl negging? Just asking valid questions lol.

      • -2

        Negging clowns or Canon fanboys.

Honestly, I'd avoid. Canon aren't the friendliest with third party lenses.

Nikon are really good these days and their lens options are catching up to E-mount options (Sony).

I shot almost every system under the sun, and prefer working with Canon. but I am not super happy that if I want relatively high res sensor for studio work, I am forced to buy R5 where I would be overpaying for things I don't need. 20mp (R6) and 24mp (R8, R6 mk2) doesn't quite cut it.

so I am shooting (don't laugh) EOS R. 30mp sensor same as in 5D mk iv, just with newer processor. RAW output is really good, and 24-105 L lens is as good as primes, shooting F5.6 in studio light. 30mp is a sensible step up from 20 or 24 and a bit more freedom cropping.

but on and off I look at decent sensors with at least 40mp. when canon makes an R8 or whatever model name such thing will get, with the output and resolution similar to R5, but in simpler workable photo-centered body, I'll take that. I understand everyone is hung up on video, but what should us photographers do. oh please Canon also make it compatible with a battery grip for portrait orientation lol

right before that I had Nikon Z6 and eye autofocus was killing me. the number of shots I had to throw away was annoying. old EOS R does a miles better job. I did like Nikon otherwise, and S series lenses are good (35mm, 85mm, 105 macro amazing for portraits), but their universal lens 24-120 F4 S didn't impress me. Sony excels in focus, and has good sensor output, colors can be fixed in post, but ergonomics and design just sucks. I spent 2 years with A7iii and no I am not going back to Sony. although I almost bought A7riii very very recently, but in the end I didn't because no I am not putting up with their ridiculous ergonomics.

  • I have this for last 6 months. This is good. Small and i use a 16mm rf lens. Sharpest picture and video

This price is usual price at Amazon and most retailers. I got mine like 2 -3 weeks ago with Ebay 15% deal for $1697 or so from Nofrills (Ryda)

    I also got 28mm for travel, R8 + 28mm f2.8 is smaller and lighter than my 6D

  • Picked one of these up for a good price second hand and have mixed it with mostly adapted EF lenses (so many of those around) and the RF35/1.8. Was coming from M43 so the small body was a big appeal (was using the EM1 and then OM1).

Works well as an every day carry (in 3L Satchel) and takes fantastic photos. The auto focus and specifically face and eye detect feels night and day better than what I had come from and the full frame "look" is something I have enjoyed as well. Great all around camera and a solid upgrade from the Canon RP that I was looking at (at least based on the specs) if you are looking for something a little smaller (that still has good ergonomics/grip).
