  • does anyone know whether the 13th/14th gen degrading issue was ever fixed?

    • -6

Doesn't matter: that's the practically price of a Ryzen 7700/RTX 5070 desktop system.

        • -1

It's not the only deal in the post? There's a 14700F/4070 desktop deal listed, which is terrible value given it's at the same price as 7500F/5070 pre-builts, which would perform better for gaming.

In a month's time that's going to be the price with a 7700 installed instead.

You're also looking at me responding to a question about Intel CPU stability, and ignoring that additional context.

Also referring to the 5070, not the 5070 Ti… who are you and who are your mates that you opted to swoop on this comment?

The OLED monitor price was hot garbage, FYI.

I RMA'd mine in february, my replacement 13900k has already degraded again and am returning for refund.

  • 32" 240Hz OLED at 27" 480Hz OLED prices, 4070 desktop system at 5070 desktop prices, laptop deal doesn't hold much water either.

    • You mean this deal?

But it is lower resolution and smaller. Some may find 4K and size more valuable than refresh rate. 240Hz is plenty.

      • And yet you can get the 27" UHD 240Hz versions for $1100, 32" is a downgrade by comparison and should only ever cost maybe 10% more due to materials.

But let's not bother with 4K OLED 240Hz HDR technology as it typically requires data compression to work, so they're all fake frames, right?

i don't understand why 32" is a downgrade by comparison. I have 27" 34"UW and 32" and 27" feels alot smaller in comparison. This monitor at this price is not amazing but not terrible either, samsung odssey oled g8 at the same price on ebay as well and Alienware equivalent is alot more expensive at $1700 (+ a bit curved rather than flat). I think most people buying 4k OLED cares about the 4k resolution + the OLED rather than the 240hz, it just so happens 240hz came with the package.

Previously asking about the 13/14th gen degradation cause theres a few legion and hp laptop flash sales going on with 13/14th gen intel chips. I understand desktop will always be cheaper $/performance but some people prefer the laptop over desktop (looking at laptop for other family members).

          • @alarm921: Oh in terms of laptop it's probably a decent choice, but I believe the 5070 mobile is a decent step up? Models are already $2400 there.

My point with monitors is that if you've got it within 60cms of yourself, 27" is enough for immersiveness, and we're still chasing higher pixel density and motion acuity. For example, a 28" monitor would be chasing 10K resolution and 1000Hz+ to be the 'ultimate' monitor.

So still a long way to go, and that's without even considering brightness for HDR.

          • @alarm921: I agree. I like to put my monitor a bit further away to reduce eye strain, so going from 27" to 32" is wayy better. I don't have to reach for my glasses as often.
