790
4PAXFREE

Usually super expensive return to KI on the ferry which is why I’ve always avoided, but this deal makes it worthwhile.

I just purchased return trip for 4 of us with our car for $272 (without promo code $660).

The deal:

There’s never been a better time to discover Kangaroo Island. Imagine an escape where
nature comes to life fresh from winter’s slumber, the wine breathes, and so do you, and the little things feel bigger.

Whether you’re craving a short getaway from the everyday or seeking an adventure of a lifetime, gather your loved ones for the perfect island holiday.

And now getting there is easier than ever…

All you need to do is book a vehicle and up to 4 passengers travel free*.

Use the promo code 4PAXFREE when you book a vehicle for travel. Don’t wait, this offer is limited to the first 200 bookings only.

Travel dates:

The booking period is from 19 May 2025 till 2 June 2025 unless sold out prior. Travel period for the offer is from 1 September 2025 till 30 November 2025 (travel date exclusions apply from 29 September 2025 to 10 October 2025 - school holidays).

Edit

Potentially will be on the brand new Sealink ferry’s too - which are due mid 2025!

  • I thought SeaLink usually charged for the type of vehicle not by passenger?

    • +1

From what I see it goes by vehicle length. Standard vehicle was $136 each way. Adults are $119 each way. $660 without the promo code

    • +1

      They charge by both 😬

      • +1

Interesting! I just assumed it would be by vehicle size. I know they ask for passenger numbers when you book but it’s not like a plane where there’s space or weight constraints. Might have to stick one of the kids in a suitcase in the boot next trip.

        • I remember it by vehicle 🚗 when I went back in 2018

        • +1

That would definitely make the most sense!! Went in January this year and had to pay for the car and also the 2 passengers. Bloody beautiful island though, absolutely loved it

          • @Benjamin7711: any tips for accommodation/where to base ourselves? looking at bringing our tent

            • +1

@punkel: I have been to KI 4 times now. 3 of those 4 times I have stayed in Stokes Bay. I love it there, lots of kangaroos at night roaming around. There are cabins, houses and places to camp.

The location is perfect in my opinion because it is in the middle of the island and it gets easier to go and back from all the tourist attractions.

              • @Colombian: Thanks! Looking at Kingscote as the missus needs a shower and can’t be off grid haha

                • @punkel: There are Airbnbs with Internet in stokes bay, we stayed in one just last month, house was a new built, very confortable.

Kingscote is meh, there is nothing to do there and the day trips to see the attractions will be very long and boring.

                  • @Colombian: How much a night for an Airbnb?
I don’t really want to pay 2k for 4 nights

Great deal ! Wish it applied during the long Oct weekend

  • +1

Great deal, wish I had it for a few weeks ago - so expensive!

    • I’ve never seen it this cheap (for non residents) which is why I jumped on it!

    In SA from Cape Jervis?

    • Cape Jervis > Penneshaw

  • +3

Can we drive an 2 wheel drive SUV there? Thinking of a one day family gateaway like North Stradbroke Island.

    • +1

Sure can. Whole Island is paved. It's BIG though, a couple of hours to get across!

    • Whole island is definitely not paved, half of it is dirt roads - but we managed in a 2 wheel drive 'small SUV' MG so will be fine!

  • +2

State in title please. Like this [SA]

    • +5

Other postings like, discounted pizza, don't say [WA] for example. Its obvious from where the offer is located. That's where Kangaroo Island is, in SA. Just like the pizza shop was located in Perth.

      • +10

I would say the pizza shop deals in Perth should have [WA] in the title too. It's a bit unreasonable to expect people to know the islands and pizza shops in each state.

        • Pizza shops yes, islands aren't really that important tbh…. Unless they have a good deal on pizza obv.

      • +2

That's where Kangaroo Island is, in SA.

*There are more than 1 Kangaroo Island in Oz. eg Hervey Bay Qld.

Just because you are in SA, doesn't mean others also know where it is.
(Having lived in Adelaide, I know.)

[SA] is just a helpful courtesy, especially for people planning to visit SA.

Posting Guidelines - put State in Title.
"State the location (city and state) if it is specific to an area. States should mentioned at the beginning of the title, e.g. [VIC]."

    • +9

This offer is available for anyone in Australia. No reason to limit it with state in title.

    • Marking thread titles with [STATE] or whatever is a perfectly reasonable and helpful thing to do if the bargain is only of interest to people from that state. Or only available to people in that state, like some state government deals. It saves people from elsewhere wasting their time checking it out. But a cheap(er) trip on a ferry to an offshore island is just as likely to be of interest to tourists from another state going there on holidays as it is to locals. That's what tourists do, they go somewhere else a long way away for it. Unlike people buying a takeaway pizza.

      • Its just easier if everyone puts [Exc. NT] for everything please, then I can find the one deal a year that I can actually get

  • Offer limited to the first 200 vehicles.

    • Promo has been running since 19 May so still going - but maybe they extended ?

    • They also want to know whether its an EV or hybrid. It'd be interesting to know why, to know what the consequences of saying Yes is.

      • I tried EV - sailing times are limited. Maybe only one ferry can cater for EV

        • I tried the code but still comes up full price? 2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant

          • @MKBHD: Did you check travel periods above?

      • +9

Went on the ferry earlier this year. EVs are loaded last onto the ferry, so in case of a EV fire they can be pushed off the ferry.

        • -1

          With the passengers too

        • Pushed off the ferry? Sounds a good idea in theory, but who does the pushing of a fiercely burning EV, and how? Would you volunteer for that job? How do they release the parking brake? Do they push it off using the next car in line? Can it push a 2+ tonne EV with its parking brake on? And what if its an EV too?

(Saw the F/A-18 the US lost off its aircraft carrier in the Middle East did you? The tractor pushing it went too, but the driver jumped in time. Then the same aircraft carrier lost another one in similar circumstances. Houthis fired a missile at it, the carrier took emergency evasive action, which involves the deck listing up to 15 degrees, and anything not chocked in place goes overboard.)

Offer limited to the first 200 vehicles.

That’s fine, I’m not taking my whole collection

    • +4

Always a Karen. Not really worthy of a neg - price is half off normal with promo code

  • +1

Awesome, thanks punkel. Always wanted to go, but cost of ferry + passengers had put us off. Now booked for our first visit!
    Now to find accommodation! :-)

    • +2

      Awesome! Enjoy your trip!

We have a new roof pod and looking at camping in the tent.

  • Is KI worth going and checking out? I’m a family from Sydney so basically I’ve have to pay for flights, I’m guessing $400 each return so that’s 1.6k for family. Rental car for say 4 days? $600 and then I have to pay for this ferry and then accomodation on the island as well too.
4 day, 3 night trip would cost me at least 3k? 😢

    • +1

It's gorgeous, but possibly better included as a few days of a larger SA trip rather than its own event.

    • +1

Agree with the above. I went to Adelaide for a 2 day music fest with some friends and ended up spending 2 weeks in SA, of which 5 were on KI. I'm really glad we made the effort to get down there - as a Queenslander I knew next to nothing about the place. The Western side has some really nice natural things to see and it's the only time I've ever seen seals in the wild. But having said that, I'm not sure a dedicated trip down for the island would be the most bang for your buck.

    • +1

As per other comments, no, extend the trip and explore some other parts of SA, along with KI.

  • +1

    Thank you @punkel
Will be visiting KI after long time.

  • There's never been a better time, such as now when there's a massive algae bloom.

In saying that, I wish we had been when we travelled that way but the cost was too prohibitive. Still would be lots to see and do and great value.

    • September a fair way off - you’d think it’d be gone by then

  • Don't go near the water! Huge algal bloom is affecting swimmers and beach visitors. https://www.pir.sa.gov.au/research/research_areas/aquatic_sc… - Check the Health Advice section. Also many news articles eg https://www.theaustralian.com.au/nation/marine-monster-in-fu…
