explain to me in pop terms

    • does it go under a fitted sheet

    • +3

      It catches sharts

    • It protects the mattress from your bodily fluids, so it goes on the mattress first and stays there and you change the other sheets on top of it.

    • Basically a wee wee mat

We used to put them on the kids beds during toilet training age.

      • +20

Interesting a lot of people don't even know what these are - I'm curious to the current state of you mattress if you don't have one…

      • +9

I think you're thinking of plastic ones which you might use for a child who still wets the bed. A normal mattress protector is something even an adult should have on their bed. It's essentially a disposable layer that can deteriorate so that you don't need to throw out your mattress after some amount of sweat, blood and other bodily fluids eventually make their way through a bottom sheet onto the layer below.

      • Or a vomit shield

        • +1

Or a sex fluid shield more like it. it won't protect from adult we-we, its not plastic.

          • @RTX9090Ti: Oh if you have kids you know how shitty it is to clean vomit on bed

Sex fluids is nothing compared to that

DeepSeek: High-quality, certified microfiber mattress protector is safe for most people, provided it’s free from PFAS, flame retardants & formaldehyde. For those with allergies, eczema or environmental concerns, natural-fiber options are better. Always prioritize certifications & wash the protector regularly to maintain hygiene ;)

Wtf after all these years I just bought a mattress protector

  • +3

Saved my mattress on many occasions after a night on the Guinness.

  • Mines been falling apart for a while, so good timing to get a new one. I realized it's the same price as anko(for double bed size), but surely this brand is a bit better quality right?

    • -3

I reckon it's a safe assumption that something that's made it onto a Myer shelf is of better quality than Anko.

      • +2

        Unfounded.

If price is an indicator of quality, what's a bargain?

        • But price in this instance is not being used as an indicator. The price of both products is the same. It's the retailer's overall positioning and brand image being used as an indicator.

We know Anko to be of an overall lower quality. We know Myer to position towards and attract the attention of a less frugal demographic. Thus, the assumption.

I bought a few heritage products before (MYER own brand) and quality is quite good

    Doesn’t say its waterproof anywhere?

  • Waterproof?

Seems like queen is OOS for delivery

  • +1

now only single n double available

RRP is a joke. $110 for a polyester matress protector.

$25 is all it is worth. I would pay the extra for something like this https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/radhusvin-mattress-protector-wo…

    • +3

Agreed. Microfibre cheap and nasty, would be too hot to sleep on in summer.

    • How is the sizing of IKEA, still European sizes?

      • -1

AI: IKEA primarily carries European-sized bedding in Australia. While they offer some bedding sizes that are similar to Australian standards, they generally adhere to European dimensions, especially for mattresses. IKEA recommends measuring your bed frame before purchasing a mattress, as their mattress sizes are European.

      • 🤷‍♂️
Works fine on my Australian mattress. With the straps it wouldn't be good if you have a big base and can't wrap the straps around the mattress.

  • Sold out of queen, anyone else have any they'd recommend?

    • +2

The ones on AliExpress are cheaper than this, waterproof, soft, comfortable, not noisy… There's nothing wrong with them. My family has been using them and putting them through the washing machine on "winter clothes" cycle for about five years. There's still nothing wrong with them.

      • Care to share which ones? I'd be interested but there's loads on there.

  • +7

    Surely you would want cotton.

    • +5

Yes. Feels much nicer, and doesn't make you sweat.

Microfibre is a fancy way of saying "plastic". It sheds microplastics and they stay in the environment forever, ending up in the oceans where fish eat them and in our drinking water, then we eat the fish and drink the water, and at the end of the year we have an extra credit-card worth of plastic in our bodies and brains.

      • -2

I LOVE microfibre. It is the new sheer polyester. Versatile. So many uses. Durable.
Wish there was a natural fibre with the (some of the), same qualities.
        Sorry Mr Fish.

        • +2

Microfibre hotel sheets feel nice at first, but then if you compare to cotton, you will notice how warm they feel to touch, then in the middle of the night you will wake up covered in sweat.

  • Not waterproof

  • Queen gone

    • +7

      King followed her

  • This is microfibre - ie. Cheap nasty plastic. I would only use it for cleaning cloths.

Better to invest in a good quality protector that is made from tencel.

    • Wait microfibfes are plastic :o

  • only single and double in stock.

  • Polypropylene bottom 😒
