Might buy a heap to try and get rid of the humidity in Sydney.

    • Don't bother, get yourself a used dehumidifier off Marketplace. The dehumidification capacity is much greater and will save you money in the long term

        I think it was a joke…

    • If large areas, best to go for a compression dehumidifier.

Or a dessicant dehumidifier if ambient temperature is low

  • Is this stuff useful for FDM filament storage? Can it be dried out and reused?

    • Can be used to eliminate high humidity in storage areas such as your example or cupboards and wardrobes. This ingredient itself is not reusable as the crystals absorbs the water and collects it into a container.

Get the regenerative ones that are coloured beads. They change colour when saturated. The heat in an oven or microwave to regenerate. Amazon sell them in various sizes.

      • any issue regenerating them in microwave?

        • No, you're meant to, or use sun

The Bunnings one is around $16, anyone tried both of them out and are they basically the same?

    • +1

Bunnings one working great for me.

Any suitable container to go with these?

      • see my answer to another question below

      • I believe the Bunnings own brand of containers are refillable as well.

  • It is the same price in Bunnings.

    • Bunning carry DampFree @ $16.95 for 3.4kg

      • this brand — DampRid — DampRid is the same price.

        • How is $18.81 for 3.4kg the same as $16.95 for 3.4kg?

  • Is there a cost effective way of buying the containers? Or any other containers that would be compatible?

    • +1

Sure is…2 round takeway containers. (One small rice, one large rice!) Heat a skewer and punch holes through the bottom of the small one and put in the crystals and then put it inside the large one. The water drips though and collects in the large one.

    • we just bought generic ones to start and then refill with these (my husband goes around to the ones we have through the house and tips any liquid out and then tops up)….plus I buy Damp Free now instead… same thing, but cheaper. Bunnings has it. Just find containers that you can take the top off and on, but basically it is just a container with lots of large holes in the lid.

  • get Damp Free instead from Bunnings…works out cheaper

    • Or find somewhere selling bulk calcium chloride flakes.

      • just checked it out, I am happy to get the 3.4kg of the Dampfree for around $17….not too bulky to store and not too expensive. Many of those flakes work out more expensive for that amount anyway….plus if you want to get anything close per kg, then you really need to buy a large bulk container.
