Would be better if they just drop the mk8 and make it even cheaper like 300

    • +8

These are most likely leftover bundle from Black Friday 2024.

      • +2

@YoursTruly: I love how that language includes a smiley face in it's alphabet

          • -1

@YoursTruly: thats chicken scratching's that is!

        • -1

        • Didn't know even I could read some Japanese until this.

    • +7

Don't think they can drop the game as it's part of a bundle where the game is pre-installed on the console. So you'll need to consider that there is no resale value on the game, as it's not the cartridge version.

      • +1

Is it not a piece of paper with a game code inside?

        • I thought the same (like previous year bundles), but based on the box it's pre-installed.

        • Was the same with MK8 on my Wii U, and MK7 on my 2DS too

          • +1

            @TheDukeOfNukem: oh yeah that's true i guess

with it being like that even if you factory reset or something it'll still be there aye?

            regardless of user account?

            • @AeymothSky: Wii U was definitely, I restored it a couple times rather than awkwardly deleting every individual game and it was always able to be redownloaded from eShop.

2DS was probably the same but i never restored it so can't speak from experience

    • +7

Probably costs them 12 cents to include a Mario Kart 8 code in the system.

    • Agree it would be steal just the console itself

  • +2

Not the worst deal from the selection, that's for sure.

    Because there's this bullshit https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/306250508407

Yikes 2 Surging Sparks Booster Packs for $44.

      • Nearly double what you can get them for elsewhere.

        • My local Kmart had them for $7/pack for the last month now.

          • +1

@RichardL: These are "Checklane Blisters" so they're usually around 11-12.50
Even though all you get is the pack worth $7, a coin and a promo.

You can sometimes get them on clearance for $7 though.

  • -1

But is it a deal if a near obsolete product is cheaper than an extremely overpriced new product?

    • -4

depends on what you after. for gameplay I would say this is 10 times better than SW2 as there's barely any difference…

      • +10

barely any difference? Love the misinformation spreading there.

        • +9

They said "for gameplay". Which is probably accurate. Gameplay hasn't really improved with generation leaps for a long time now.

          • -1

@PainToad: well frame rate increase/stability is definitely gameplay improvement. Slightly tired of switch running exclusives at potato frame rate that still dips haha.

          • +2

@PainToad: As far as nintendo goes its a bigger leap than PS4 to PS5 was.

            • -1

@Spendmore: Nah PS4 to PS5 was a big leap in performance and true 4k support. Can't imagine I play anything less

              • +1

@neonlight: No way, I have played both, have a PS5 and its negligable. Its the least generational jump so far.

                • @Spendmore: I have several titles would run like a dog if I still have it on PS4 pro even. That includes FF7, Genshin impact etc

                  • @neonlight: Regardless, a frame rate bump is nothing to get excited about and is expected with a newer gen. I also have a series X and it is a similar minor improvement over the one X.

                    • @Spendmore: Well yeah the improvement is not leaps and bounds but switch 2 is meant to be the answer so skip OLED all together from original switch

                      • @neonlight: Apparently the new screen is better in every way except deep black from the oled screen. I'd take the new larger, higher res etc over the old oled any day.

          • +1

@PainToad: Doesn't seem to affect the PC crowd with their bullshit raytracing.

    • +2

We're on OzBargain so other products don't matter. A deal is a deal if it's the cheapest available.

    • -1

      What makes it obsolete?

  • need to wait for it to become outdated and easily hackable

    • You can get it chipped easily enough. The software has otherwise been remarkably resilient.

      • How?

        • Search ‘Picofly’ and look for a local installer. Alternatively, buy the chip off Ali Express and ask around local repair shops. Anyone who does micro-soldering should be able to assist.

          • @DustyAfternoon: Not worth doing so voids warranty and also risking $389 for a new one…Buy a second hand original switch do all the softmods you want at no cost.

Only buy this switch OLED if you want to play online

The so called local repair shops are not easy to find as it's illegal to install modchips. Most operating out of home no longer a retail shop. They don't advertise as such to install modchips. Mostly under the table deals. Use those services at your own risks

You can try Facebook but people with micro soldering skills and the gear are getting rare to come by. They mostly do so as a side hustle or hobby not source of income

      • yea but thats hardware mod.

    • It's been out for a while there's no softmod available only if you want to Solder a hardware chip otherwise this thing is hackable

You should look for second hand original switch those were gems

  • +6

thanks OP, i have been wanting to get Switch for my son he is only 6, i cant justified to get SW2 since he will only be playing Mario kart.

    • +5

Could have just got them a Wii for like $30 on Marketplace, soft-modded very easily and loaded it up with Wii and GameCube games. I'm sure that would keep a 6 year old happy.

      • -5

Wii lol… no HD and doesn't even have a HDMI port.

      • +2

I just setup a wii and damn is it cheap to satisfy young kids with older games that are just as playable. The SD card costed me more.

    • +3

Go for it … perfectly fine device for kids

Its usually adults who count pixels and obsess over benchmark numbers

    • +2

@cocomelon I'm in the same boat - have been wanting to get a console for my 7yo daughter and I to start playing together. She would love a Switch 1 with Mario Kart, I doubt she'd care for the incremental gains on a Switch 2.

I might bite at this price. Can't see it going a whole lot cheaper

    • +4

      Username checks out

    • +1

My 6yo son is now competing with 4 others family members in Mario Kart 8 battles on Wii-U. Sadly it only supports 4 players, so one of the 4 elder persons needs to be the observer. 2 years ago he was the observer when we played Wii.

We bought the Wii-U 2 years ago for $50, and the WiiMotes from our Wii are reused, which would cost 10-20 on marketplace now.

  • +1

Tempted to get one and keep it unopened as a collectible at this price… Could use the 12m NSO for when S2 releases too right?

    • Could use the 12m NSO for when S2 releases too right?

Yep, since it's just a code on a card.

    • +4

      unopened as a collectible

The Switch won't be much of a collectable unopened or not. Consoles that don't sell well are often what goes on to be a collectable, eg. the GameCube is a collectable but the PS2 is a dime a dozen.

      • +1

Unpatched switch 1 would probably be more of a collectable

  • +4

That is much better value than Switch 2.

    • -1

Not sure why you get down voted. It’s truly a good value

  • +8

its still wild to me that the switch 2 doesnt have an OLED screen

    • +19

It's so Nintendo can release a revised/upgraded model in a few years.

      • It's a scheme same as iPhone with small internal memory and make you pay for the one that is usable and enough as an upgrade

    • +6

The switch 2 screen is very good by all reports, I doubt most people who see it in person would care that it isn't OLED.

Meanwhile a 4x increase in graphics performance is apparently "barely noticeable" and it is already "overpriced"

It just reads like trolling by people who aren't even interested in the product

      • +1

I dont mind it is LCD or OLED but it is clearly to me that there is space for a bigger screen in Switch2 chassis and it will come and very like to be OLED like previous gen.

        Nintendo just hold it

And like you said, graphics are barely different. So I think Switch 2 wont be worthy until (maybe) 2028 when devs can utilize the hardware and OLED variant might be out

        • -1

Devs can utilise the hardware right now. The only thing that would stop me if there were no games however donkeykong, mariokart and metroid are enough for me to bite.

      • +1

it is actually 10x graphics performance so it's "barely noticeable" for sure

        • +5

"10x graphics performance" is a meaningless statement. 10x what? 10x the frame rate, so it runs at 300fps?

On the released specs it will be a modest but significant jump from 1 to 2, but nothing mind blowing. I doubt if you're a 10 year old playing Mario it's going to make a huge difference other than the bigger screen.

    • oh it doesnt ?? :O

    • -1

LED tech has really come a long way in the last few years - I got rid of my OLED TV and got a high end mini LED and it's superior in almost every way other than a couple of things that don't materially impact the viewing experience.

      • +1

Agreed, some of the best PC monitors are IPS LCD.

  • Good deal but you will never experience Hitman or Cyperpunk 2077 with this. Take that and play all old first party games.

  • +2

For first time switch players, it's a good deal. For upgrade, might be better go 2.

  • +1

pretty sure I paid this price years ago
one would think Switch should be under $300 now

    • +1

one would think Switch should be under $300 now

Considering the hardware is very similar to the Nvidia Shield from 2014 and that was as low as $254 in 2016, it's pretty clear Nintendo has just been milking consumers this generation. But why wouldn't they, people keep giving them money.

      • +2

Switch is more than just the hardware tho. Don't forget about the terrible terrible laggy UI.

    • Just before COVID it was hitting 300 regularly, to the point I told an interested friend it was about the most I'd pay, and they bought their's for 299 somewhere.

Then COVID hit and (profanity) 2013 PS4s were worth hundreds again.

      • OLED was released in 2021, you can not buy OLED before COVID at 299. You are mostly talking about lcd switch, then it should be clarified. People may get confused.

        • I was.

As was the original comment I replied to, and every other reply to it.

        • +2

The way people justify the Switch's persistently high price because of the OLED screen upgrade is so funny. Malibu Stacy new hat vibes.

  • -4

got it for 220 from temu

    • it's 270. They don't count GST. If you got it from TCB, then it's 315

      • Mine tracked at 50%

        • you got the 450 one? I might put in a report than. Mine tracked at less than 50%

  • -1

should i buy now or wait until closer to christmas for potential further discounting?

    • I've seen OLED units going for $250-300 secondhand on Facebook marketplace if you don't mind having no warranty.

      • Issue is the battery. Unless you can DIY and change it yourself no point getting second hand devices

  • can i sell the NSO at all? if so how much is it worth?

    • It's a code on a paper, so can resell it.

A 12 Months Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership is normally $29.95.

      • Yeah I don't need pesky subscriptions just sell it if I was you

    • 12 months subscription in a family pass is like $7. Just FYI. With + Expansion, it's just under $14 for a whole year

  • So tempted at this price. But amazing to think that this is a 10 year tech device and has such staying power

    • +1

Yeah let's wait another 10 years so you can get switch 2 at this price

  • I am getting one and no care in the world

    • mine got delivered overnight. already played on it yesterday afternoon. nice! I don't need switch 2.

  • wondering when will ebay to offer a ps5 pro deal. their $500 slim deal was impressive.

  • Can you pay extra to upgrade to the higher tier subscription?

  • Bought 1 and coming tomorrow, that's quick~~
