Should do the meatballs on special.

I remember when it was $1 but they could keep it at 50 cents and I still wouldn't buy. Actual hotdog doesn't even taste like hotdog. $2 Costco hotdog onion relish tomato mustard and free refill drink. Step up IKEA!

    • What, IKEA's ones don't have a strong flavour of lips and arseholes?

  • +3

Drink refill at Ikea options are atrocious. Veggie dog taste better than the meat hotdog

What's difference between plant and vegie dog..? Which is better.

    • +1

I actually like the smoked less fatty meat frank from Ikea.
      Also the more continental mustard.
Originally I was all for the Costco Dogs, until I got indigestion on too many occasions.
The flow rate at Costco for the vending drinks is superior.
But you do get the choice of coffee at Ikea.

My guess is that plant-based is imitation meat whereas veggie dog is more like a veggie burger (bunch of veggies smooshed together)

    • +3

Plant one is plant protein to look like meat. Veggie dog is made with vegetables mashed together. Both of them are good, but I like the veggie one slightly better because if you do them at home, you can make them in the air fryer/oven and they can be made crispy. Add the Ikea onions and even better.

Don't shoot the messenger but I heard that if you eat 5 of these a day for 50 days you turn into a sausage

    • +2

      Can confirm, I am sausage.

    • @ilikefarts I understand the farts smell sausagey as well.

    • +10

This is known as The Wurst case scenario.

    • Is that how they breed sausage dogs? You are what you eat

  • -3

Whats the point when they cook the meats and non meats on same bbq?

    • -3

Have to give the non-meats flavour somehow…

    • +6

The choice of sausage filling they haven't isn't due to established religion and the oil used is likely canola so there's no need to be hysterical about the cooking surface I would imagine.

      • -3

Point is its no longer halal or kosher. Also most vegans and some vegetarians wont eat anything contaminated with animal fats

        • I also know a guy who won't eat food if it has touched other food. Some strange folk out there.

        • +1

How many vegan/vego friends have you asked? Most of mine (incl. me) don't care - it's about the demand (and hence supply) of animal slaughter

      • +1

the oil used is likely canola

Aren't hot dogs normally boiled or steamed? So no need for oil.

Wikipedia says "A hot dog is a grilled, steamed, or boiled sausage served in the slit of a partially sliced bun."

I've not seen them grilled before, unless you consider the "democracy sausage" to be a hot dog, and I'd argue it isn't.

Indeed they usually are but the pictures of the non meat, err, dogs looks like they are fried. But anyway it's more the point that hysteria does find it's way into these concepts sometimes. Hungry Jacks had the same thing with those fake meat patties as they were cooked on the same surfaces as the beef patties.

    • Probably because they taste different? Like beef vs pork.

    • -2

      Yep, the meat get contaminated.

    • Exactly!

At least Grill'd burgers' policy is their vegetarian patties are cooked separately from regular meat.

  • +1

Is there BNPL financing on these available?

    • Yes, if you have a credit card

  • I thought they got rid of the veggie dog? It hasn't been available for months.

    • +5

They may have found a pallet of them in the back of the warehouse.

      • If they weren't already green…

Wish this started on Friday. Weekends are wayyyyy too busy at Ikea.

  • IKEA, TheyKEA too.

  • The Perth IKEA page has no mention of the hotdog offer but does say they are giving away free party pies on Saturday. The party pies have a meatball filling. Feels like an April Fools Day joke.

Wow, a lot of people downvoting my comment have obviously never seen Fight Club.

      • Search YouTube for "Fight Club Ikea scene"

  • Hot dog, plant dog, veggie dog.. Lakers in 5

  • I was at IKEA today.
No veggie dogs or plant based dogs on the menu anymore.

    • Keep in mind they are at the exit not the restaurant

      • I know.
I got a hot dog and my vegetarian child was disappointed not to get one. They have plant ball subs instead.

        • Wow yeah ok
