            • @ironworthy: Scam people for amazon gift cards, use the cards to buy items to ship to ebay customers…

      • +2

I order just as much on eBay now as I ever have. The two aren't interchangable or directly in competition in my mind.

  • Requested 12 months code

  • +2

Received the email - my refund was $13.50. so naturally chose a year of prime instead. Pretty good deal!

    • +5

Yeah but it's going to cost you over a grand more now buying discounted stuff linked on ozbargain

  • +20

I buy a lot of shit from Amazon, so even without watching Prime Video it's still a no brainer for me for the free/fast shipping. The thing that sucks though is my folks live in the sticks and Amazon refuse to ship Australian warehoused stuff to their postcode now. This is primarily because in order to meet the expected delivery timeframes they need to use Startrack which costs a mint. They'll ship stuff from Amazon US/UK/DE/etc. to their postcode as the cost is the same to all of Australia from overseas, but nothing warehoused at Amazon AU can be sent.

To put this further into perspective, I recently sent a Mother's Day card to my mum. I put it into the Australia Post mailbox on Sunday arvo, it arrived Friday almost 2 weeks later. My folks live 160km / 2 hours drive away from the CBD. It's quite frankly pathetic how bad AusPost are with country deliveries - especially ones going through major highway towns.

As for Prime Video, the advertising has definitely adversely affected viewer experience. This is to the point where some shows are being cancelled due to poor viewership as people can't be arsed watching 3-5 minutes of unskippable adverts every 8 minutes of TV episode. Many more people weekly are buying their eyepatch and sailing the seven seas as it's just far more convenient.

If they give a year for free why not

    • I clicked your link and asked for 12 months free see what happens.

  • Mad inv

  • I didnt think so many people would cancel due to that reason.
Ive been a prime member since amazon first brought their warehouse to sydney and i have never looked back.

  • Does the deal work if I'm on monthly subscription? Just realised I've been on monthly for 2 years.

  • +8

oh man everyone cancelling their Prime today hahaha

    • +3

      I have a valid reason, really. :)

My 12 month subscription ends today. I would normally wait until I next buy something to start a new 12 month subscription. I forgot and was going to get the autorenewal tomorrow. Luckily I checked thanks to this post.

      • +1

Had chat with them. My annual membership fee was refunded. I am an active member at the moment.

      • hardly use their prime benefit for delivery and had since took up sailing again from last year so might not need their service now..

  • This is bloody excellent. Thanks OP.

  • +5

    Did anyone receive code yet…

    • +18

i like how no one is actually mentioning if they've got the code yet lol

      • +2

Had chat with them. My annual membership fee was refunded. I am an active member at the moment.

        • What u ask then please?

          • @georgev: Just asked about this promotion and requested if i was eligible given i was a loyal customer and do heaps of amazon shopping.

            • @NPB: I was denied saying there is no such promotion 😞

              • +2

                @kalakaar: Try with different rep.

            • +1

@NPB: Why downvote? I was able to get $79 refunded in no more than 2 minutes chat without any hassle.

              • @NPB: Not sure who down voted. That's a good idea that you shared

                • @kalakaar: Did you get it sorted? Try different rep, ask politely, they will do it.

                  • @NPB: No. Haven't tried again. Might do tomorrow morning

              • @NPB: @kalakaar What did you say?

                • @d123: I copy pasted the above OP comment and asked if i was eligible for this offer.

                  • @NPB: Did you have an active Prime membership at the time you contacted them? I ask as I have one.

        • Got it sorted thanks

        • +8

I don't know why you are being downvoted, but I just got a $79 refund as well, and retained my membership, so thank-you for the heads-up!

AMAZON REP: Please allow me a moment

AMAZON REP: A$79.00 AUD will be refunded to your original payment method within 3 to 5 business days Refunding this charge will not cancel the Prime membership.
          I hope this helps.
          End this chat

          • @Lucille Bluth: Did you pay for prime with GC or credit card?

            • @ihbh: CC

              • @Lucille Bluth: Those idiots think GC is a free subscription!

                • @ihbh: I didn't even know you could get Prime subscription using Amazon GC.

                  • +1

@Lucille Bluth: It was a fairly recent change (< a year I believe).

                    • @Hiphopopotamus: Dang, wish I had known earlier. Thanks for headsup!

                      • @ihbh: Found it, Feb 2024 so a good 3 months over a year.

I can't recall any free 1 year Prime deals, I think Telstra has some decent ones for points?

                        • @Hiphopopotamus: It could have some been Telstra points with my top up, but it appears as a promo credit, which they said they can't refund.

          • +1

@Lucille Bluth: Luck you! I tried similar and they cancelled my primeπŸ˜‚

          • @Lucille Bluth: Had similar experience in Amazon Chat. Rep advised they would offer the full refund within 3-5 days, and my membership would remain active.

Just did this, a few minutes ago, so refund hasn't processed yet, but confident it will come through.

Worth the try for anyone with active memberships.

          • @Lucille Bluth: Where did you find that? NVM… found it eventually…

I guess it doesn't hurt to try. If you're a Prime member - give it a go! Thanks OP!

        • Thanks, I tried and got this too!

    • nope nothing yet

  • I was a Prime member but didn't renew in April this year, due to the increase of the membership fee. Got the same email 1 hour ago. I probably will go for option 2. The overall experience with Prime membership is okay.

  • +6

Selected 12 months free but haven't gotten any email yet…

    • any update?

      • No email, reckon it's never coming

        • Just chat with them online, checked what we did in this thread.

  • damn my membership recently renewed 2 weeks ago. And I live regionally so most stuff I get sent to my family in a metro region which I visit once a month or so 2 hrs away.

  • I cancelled before renewal but my wife insisted on keeping it so I renewed a day before renewal. I did not get this email πŸ˜‚

    • wouldn't it make more sense to reward those who renewed to keep them happy? like me!

      • Click on the link and still put your preference in. I almost not renewed it, I cancelled it. But you know how wife mind works πŸ˜‚

  • do you have to cancel first if you still have unused benefit then click the link in this post?

    • You could try, but it likely won't work.

It's for recently cancelled accounts, and the email/offer from Amazon has already been sent.

  • Do I need to cancel first?

  • Damn, My annual Prime renewed on the 11th of May. Oh well, I am pissed about the ads, but buy a bunch of stuff under $50 so the next day prime delivery is worth it.

  • +2

clicked for 12 months free - no email yet

  • I just renewed last week. Followed the link, we will see what happens.

  • +1

Tried my luck with live chat. No dice, cancelled about a month ago…Ah well, we'll see if anything comes of the "You will receive a confirmation email shortly.". Not holding my breath though

  • Ohhhh - I got no email 😳 My Prime isn't due for renewal until July. Maybe I should cancel and see if I get an offer. What I want to know is - are they going to stop the bloody ads? I wouldn't mind the free yearly sub but want the ad thing gone (I know I can pay more to get rid).

However when checking emails for this offer I did find one from OnePass offering me to renew my recently cancelled yearly membership for $20 😏

  • +1

Hmm my membership cycle renews mid June. What to do?

We have totally stopped using Prime Video due to the ads, it pushed us over the edge to join the RD train. Was just awful the interruptions when trying to watch LOTR and Wheel of Time totally ruined the viewing experience almost as bad as free to air. The algorithms made no freaking sense in how they applied the ads either.

  • Great timing! I cancelled the subs which was about to renew in 3 days. I was not ready to renew, but if they'll give me 1 year free, why not?!?

  • Am I eligible?

    Thank you.
You will receive a confirmation email shortly.

  • +2

Never had Amazon prime but selected 12 months code. Let’s see if I get lucky

    • As I unfortunately expected I received a follow up email from Amazon saying i wasn’t eligible.

  • How long before receiving the 12 month code?

    • -2

I cancelled in September of last year, so it took approximately 8 months in my case

  • You will receive a confirmation email shortly. waiting for the email :)

  • got the free 12months when I clicked the link to check.
with a bub around, amazon is sometimes the best option without leaving the house.

  • -1

Still no email, so I doubt I'll get a code for the free 12month option. PS: I didn't have Prime previousely.

  • From which email, you received the above offer. I tried to chat with Prime team, They asked me confirm Amazon sender email

  • +2

Current prime member. Clicked the link 30 minutes ago for free 12 months, but received a $10 voucher email just now. I guess they are too smart to throw 12 months of prime left and right.

  • live chat said there wasn't a promotion but gave me $30 credit anyway. I have an active sub.

    • I got a full refund, after they initially said the web link wasn't real. I almost gave up after asking them at the start for a 12 month free extension, would have been happy with $30 promo credit

  • Got the code instantly, but no email yet. So how to proceed?

    • +9

DM me the code and I can verify it for you 😏

  • Chat said up to 30 days to get the code

  • +5

Amazon Product manager: why are all these people cancelling?

  • -6

Live chat said it was a scam. Gave me an iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB for free. Winning!

      • +6

        Are you serious?! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    • -1

How did you get an iPhone? I was offered the Samsung 25 Ultra.

      • That’s too bad. I got 12 months free OzB Premium πŸ€‘πŸ€‘

  • +3

Contacted Amazon Support and asked if I was eligible for another year of free Prime membership even though I haven't been targeted by Amazon. The rep responded yes, should still work.

  • -8

If this is a scam I definitely fell for it hook, line and sinker.
    Password changed….just in case

    • +4

      Huh? Why?

The link is a sub domain of Amazon.com.au?

    • +3

      A. Clicking the link doesn't require you to log in if you're already logged into Amazon
      B. The Address is a subdomain of Amazon.com.au
      C. The phone reps clearly lie and make things up when they don't an answer to give, this is common behaviour.
      D. You're either baiting or have a tin foil hat on.

      • -8

        A) I was apparently logged out when I clicked the link, which adds doubt
        B) Being a part of a legitimate subdomain doesn't exclude it from compromise
        C) This I have no experience of, I've only had a handful of experience dealing with them, all being relatively informative

Being extra cautious causes me no harm….and I do like putting on my tin foil hat

    • +2

learn how to read SSL certs…..

  • +1

Been on monthly since 2019. Cancelled today.

Clicked the link above and selected the 12 months free option.

Messaged using the chatbot and they couldn't help.

Called up, and the rep seemed annoyed and spoke to me about how I was ineligible without letting me talk (clearly they've received a lot of calls about this). Was also told that if anyone escalated and goto a refund or free subscription time - that it is 'false information'. Unsure if the rep is making stuff up, but oh well worth a try.

Atleast I've now discovered that Amazon had a cheaper annual subscription that I was never told about -_-
