Got on chat, got shunted between two different people, neither wanted to help but eventually managed to get a $35 refund, better than a poke in the eye i guess.
Don't know how some of you lucky sods managed to get the full $79 refund!

  • Gave it a shot. Thanks op

  • -5

The useless (profanity) at Amazon support declined me. I just cancelled on the spot. (profanity) Amazon.

  • -2

i cancelled years ago and occasionally get 30 days for free. I believe I deserve 12 months for free.

    • You believe you deserve a year free because you cancelled years ago and have been leeching off them ever since? Wow

  • Tried live chat, no dice.

I got shafted when I used Telstra points to redeem the 12 months Prime subscription back in July 2024, they reviewed my account and said I already used a free 12 months.

Got a further email as follows…

    PrimeVideo.com
    Account & Settings PrimeVideo.com
    Message From Customer Service
    Hello.

This email is being sent to you with respect to your Amazon account for which you had contacted us.

I've looked into your request and our records show that we didn't send you a message because your account does not meet the required conditions and unfortunately you are therefore not entitled to one of these options.Only customers who received an email from Prime Video sent on May 28, 2025 are eligible to redeem this offer.

I hope I have addressed your concerns. In case you have other concerns regarding your Amazon account please reach back to us and we will be able to assist you.

    Best regards

    Adity

    • hmmm…wonder what those "required" conditions really are? seems to be random luck so far

      • you had to have held a annual prime membership on 21st may 2024

        • I've got that and still got the same message

          • @Mooncakes: Was your membership through a 3rd party? If yes not eligible, if through Amazon contact them you should be eligible

    • Same thing for me because I used Telstra rewards. They said my subscription was already free!

  • wonder if we can sign up now and immediately ask for the refund?

  • +1

Played the agent roulette game and lost, happily cancelled my auto-renewal, Amazon probably facing a surge of cancellations right now from disgruntled Ozbargainers haha

  • +3

if you took up the Door Dash prime deal for 2 years, don't cancel - you'll lose that if you do

    • Create another account with both and sign up for the 2year deal again :)

  • +1

this implies, and infers even , they have a

" NO REFUNDS " policy on Amazon Membership.

Even Though they no doubt have your Bank account / card details.

Why would anyone deal with such a company ?

  • Does this apply for those who paid for a month of Prime now and then or is it only for those who paid the full annual membership up front?

  • +1

Being an ozbargainer for so many years, it felt wrong to pay for a year when fellow ozbargainers were getting it for free, so, after chatting with the support team, I got my membership cancelled because they wouldn't budge to give any discounts. Will be receiving $79 back, I got my membership in February so, getting a full refund gives at least 3 months for free. Now let's create a new Prime account and get a month's trial followed by membership for a year:)

    • A lot of effort for not a lot of reward. Not worth it IMO, but each to their own.

    • @rhymingboxer1
I found it difficult to create new amazon ac they need new mobile phone. Let me know if you found a way without cheers

  • +5

POSSIBLE HACK? Not sure if this works for everybody, but we watch only one or two shows. we have been downloading each episode rather than watching it via streaming and not one single ad

    • +1

Just watch on your web browser and use an adblocker like ublock origin.

    Dear Customer,

Unfortunately, your account does not meet the required conditions and you are therefore not entitled to one of these options. Only customers who received an email from Prime Video are eligible to redeem this offer.

If you did receive communication from Prime Video about the offer make sure you follow the link in that email and log-in using your Amazon Account details linked to that email address.

    • +2

Yeah just got this as well lol. I did cancel before submitting but the membership doesn't expire for a while so it's still active.

I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

      • Did you receive the cancellation/disabling of auto renewal email? If you didn't receive then you didn't really cancel, they are sneaky, after you cancel you have to confirm cancellation from membership page on the bottom of the page.

    • Just got this too

    • Yep. Me too.

    • I got the same email. I was a prime member for years but I cancelled a few months ago because the service was going downhill.

    • Same here, guess I will just keep buying cheap stuff and have them delivered to my door then :/

    • +3

Got the same rejection letter. I think their service team has been inundated with requests and they're now pushing the same pro-forma response. My account expires today. Cancelled yesterday. Not likely to get it back since my orders have either been damaged or delayed too often and the shows are either cancelled or just not that interesting. Also they axed Wheel of Time, so that's unforgiveable.

    • Taste*

    • what a scam, only the people who received the email are eligible

Gonna start accusing every targeted deal of being a scam now

      • yeah it does feel like discrimination when you are loyal customer for ages (5+ yrs) and they irritate you with all these ads and only a few new customer who cancelled gets the reward.

        • +1

That's because those people took action and cancelled to show their displeasure. You just sat there and took it like a good little boy.

          • @RainbowChad: yeah cowboy and like they knew the future that amazon will provide the refund, self righteousness is a bliss, stay blessed.

  • I got the email too, they reviewed my account and I'm not eligible for a 12-month free prime membership :(.

    • As we said just chat with them online, forget that email.

    • got the same email

    • I got the same email but then I went through the chat again and this time I was issued a refund of $79.

      • @ozioziozi if i pay full now and then go to chat right away do you think they will refund? if not, can i cancel the prime and get full refund?
        @superforever

        • found the answer : If you haven't placed an Amazon Prime-eligible order or used any Prime benefit, you are eligible for a full refund.

        • I see the following in their terms and condition so worst case if they don’t refund you, you should be able to cancel the membership and get the refund.

“ 2.4. Cancellation by you and refunds

You may cancel your Amazon Prime membership any time by visiting Your Account and adjusting your membership settings. You may also contact customer service. If neither you nor anyone authorised by you to use your account has taken advantage of any Prime benefits in the current membership period, we will refund this membership fee in full. Prime memberships redeemed through a promotional code or gift card are not refundable.”

  • +7

Only positive in all of this is it made me realise that my Prime really wasn't worth it lately.
A lot of the supermarket items I purchase are no longer price matching the specials and Prime video is very dissapointing so it helped me decide to cancel so in essence I still have saved $79👍
I suspect many will do the same and their goodwill gesture to others may cost them.
Although its Amazon and they really wont care 💲💲💲

    • also haven't renewed my prime membership

      • same, can't stand those ads, especially in the middle of a movie, makes me turn off the app

    • Yes same.. sad..

      • I got the same email but then I went through the chat again and this time I was issued a refund of $79.

        • same, but i also got my meembership cancelled effectively today, so, not that great

  • +3

they are still refunding annual fee over chat despite receiving the ineligible email :-)

go to customer service -> scroll down to “prime video, amazon music, kindle apps” -> “prime video” -> “ads in prime video”

express your disappointment with ads in prime video and mention that you didn’t receive the code from the extra 12 months prime that was offered. they’ll refund your last annual prime payment right away

    • Can confirm this works. I initially got $30 refund but went specifically through this route and got the full $79 refunded

Also got email saying my account was not eligible

    • Just tried this. They said they'll forward it to the relevant team and get back to me within 24-48 hours.

    • Tried this but was just told the same thing, that I wasn't eligible.

    • can confirm this work, I got refunded my full annual amount without cancelling.

    • Nope.

"I understand how frustrating blah blah….but you did not receive the email so you are not eligible."

    • This is helpful and worked for me except I decided not to mention this offer; they refunded $79.

  • +1

Update: yesterday I had a chat with 2 agents. Both didn’t issue refund and I was told that I will get an update via email within 24-48 hours. Today I received an email stating that I was not eligible for the promotion therefore won’t be getting any refund or free 12 months extension.

Today I contacted another agent stating that I want to cancel my membership because I don’t like ads and I was issued a refund of $79.

    • And prime subscription cancelled?

      • of course no bro

      • No, prime subscription is still active.

        • ok im trying now, worst case i will just cancel the prime and get full refund from the system

          • @McMaferMur: just tried, got my membership cnacelled and refunded, with benefits ending exactly TODAY. If i go and check my membership status, it is asking me to sign up again. Crap, now i need to wait for the refund to come back and sign one more time.

            • @pichxlonco: duh well, i dont need membership if not free so nothing to loose for me

    • @ozioziozi need more help. so after you say you want to cancel then what the agent ask, or they just straight away offer/issue the refund?

      • I basically said that yesterday I tried to cancel and at the time of cancellation I was given the option to either get refund or get 12 months free. I chose 12 months free option but I don’t see that applied to my membership. I played dumb and next thing he said was that he is issuing me a refund. Whole chat lasted less than 5 mins.

    • didn't work. they flat out refused and say they can't do it because the system wouldn't allow them.

      • -1

        they can't
they lied… to many of us… but what can we do…. except strap a lie detector to their head

  • Received email:

  • +1

Guys you crashed the live chat, i've been stuck at the rolling "Getting Help" icon for the past 10 min.

  • I tried chat, and asked to cancel. They would not give me a refund because I’ve used the benefits.

    • +3

they can tell you whatever, its just some lucky member here get it refunded, some not. its always lucky game

  • +1

Looks like they've tested the patience of a lot of ozbargainers, we should all do a mass prime cancel to show that we mean business, deal or bye ;-)

  • +1

I'm month to month — complained about how taken advantage I felt as I did not like the injected ads on Prime Video, but hadn't cancelled and had been loyal. Given the $20 voucher.

    • +1

I'm the same - month to month. Jumped on chat and ended up getting a free year.

      • +1

you are a convincing person mate. What's the secret sauce?

        • +1

I cancelled my month while waiting for a chat agent, not sure that made any difference.

I just explained I was looking at getting an annual subscription but found that Prime video had too many ads. Also mentioned a friend got that email.

It didn't take that tmuch convincing. They upgraded my monthly to an annual (refunding the remaining monthly fee), charged me $79 and then refunded me $79. Guess I was just lucky!

  • +1

"Unfortunately, your account does not meet the required conditions and you are therefore not entitled to one of these options. Only customers who received an email from Prime Video are eligible to redeem this offer."

      • +1

Igore the email, just chat with them, maybe you are lucky enough to talk with somebody agree to refund.

  • I got the same email "Unfortunately, your account does not meet the required conditions blah blah…"

I messaged the support chat and they are refunding my 1 year Prime membership from that expired 10 days ago and not renewed

  • +1

Now I wish I cancelled rather than just letting iyt expire. I never imagined they would make such an offer.

  • Didn't get the email, but had cancelled.

Reached out on chat and was told it was escalated and was given a $10 promo credit in the meantime.
