I cancelled my Prime ~2 weeks ago.

    • +1

Me too but it still has a few days left before it expires. I applied for 12 months anyway, but I didn't receive any email. 🤞

      • +4

I just got a rejection email, even though I cancelled the same time you did. Looks like they're not honouring it if you didn't get sent the initial email, so definitely try and go through support if you can.

        • +4

Same :( rejection.. was hard to accept…

Though sifting through the comments here - I was able to go on chat - Express my sadness for Prime ads giving me Free To Air Tv trauma - told a few jokes and be SUPER nice(mentioned cancelling) and bam - got the refund of $79.

Try your luck again and see how you guys go :)

Thanks Op and Ozbargain collective brainpower!

why though do you not buy stuff on amazon? i love over night deliver i buy alot of stuff on amazon house hold items etc and Prime is used so often with me not sure why any one would cancel it unless they don't use amazon often. because amazon with out prime sucks.

      • +8

Many reasons - perhaps you live with someone who also has prime, and Amazon still refuses to offer a family plan. Maybe one of the main reasons for getting prime was to use the video and music apps, that now both have ads. Could just be buying less on Amazon, or only using it for larger/combined purchases where you still get free shipping. The increased 'cost of living' is very real and every area to save money helps.

      • +5

Because, while it's an incredibly small gesture, I want to avoid giving Jeff Beelzebub any more of my money…

      • +1

Given how much stuff I buy on Amazon and I am sure many others, I don’t understand how they make any money with prime. For example when they deliver a packet of cotton buds next morning. The weird thing is how often they will deliver several times in an order instead of waiting for the whole order to be ready. Even same day!

        • +1

they don't know either - that's why they stopped delivering to many regional and outer metro areas.

      • +2

I still get free delivery without it. Just need wait to order $59 worth of items.

I also get S&S for small orders.

      • +2

I let it lapse because I got some promo credit deals on another account and ended up using its 30-day free trial. I was probably going to rejoin anyway next month, it worked out really well for me.

    • Me too

    • +1

Criteria: MUST received Amazon targeted email.

      • -1

No need, just chat with agent like we did in this thread. I didn't receive the email, I got $75 refund credit pending in my C.C.

        • I previously subscribed to their 30d FREE trial & canceled after 30d.

  • +3

Nice, what's everyone getting? Refund or 12 months free?

    • +37

      12 months free.

I'm addicted to the Amazon smack.

      Thanks OP!

      • +14

Yeah I did same, though Im now pissed at them due to cancelling WoT

        • +1

Same here! Wasn't expecting that as S3 was good sp they've left us with cliffhanger

        • +3

It was extremely boring. Good they cancelled

        • Not happy with them klling off several key characters in the last episode, understandable though with the way the many storylines branched out in the final 5 books (part of the reason why Brandon Sanderson had to expand the final book to 3 books) - I was wondering how they were going to handle it, and it looks like the answer is to simply trim back the branches that are not absolutely crucial to the core story, and kill off any characters on that branch to avoid attention dilution amd reduce the number of actors.
Would be good though now to be able to re-read the books with the live characters' faces in our minds - like we did with LOTR.

    • Depends on your refund, mine was ~$68 so a year of Prime is better value.

      • how did you get the amount $68, my options shows as,
Please select one of the following options below:
Receive a pro-rated refund to your Amazon Account
Receive a pro-rated refund to the original payment method used to sign-up for your past Prime membership
Receive a code for 12-months of Prime for free

        Then submit buttion…

        • It was in the email I got, it doesn't show up when you click the link.

    • +4

If you use it and plan to continue using it, then 12mths free IMO, but if you've cancelled it and have no intention of renewing, then get the refund.

    • +5

I no longer have prime, because most of the time I'm over $59 spend and don't use their streaming or gaming. Maybe for 3 months a year I'll buy prime. So ask yourself how often you really need it (small orders) because a refund might be better than you think

    • +2

      In my case, nothing:

      Dear Customer,

We have reviewed your application to receive a pro-rated refund of your past Prime plan or a free 12-months of Prime.

Unfortunately, your account does not meet the required conditions and you are therefore not entitled to one of these options. Only customers who received an email from Prime Video are eligible to redeem this offer.

If you did receive communication from Prime Video about the offer make sure you follow the link in that email and log-in using your Amazon Account details linked to that email address.

      Sincerely,
      The Amazon Prime team

Oh well, always worth a shot.

  • Prime ending in July, worth to cancel?

    • +2

Yeah cancel and see if this offer comes else re sub

      Worth a try

  • +11

Clicked the link, let see, I didn't receive the email, still have active subscription.

    "Your response has been collected.
    Thank you.
You will receive a confirmation email shortly. "

    • Same, got the same message, still waiting for the email for the 12months free prime code.

    • 12-months of Prime for free 🤞🏻

    • Same, hoping i get a code

      • any luck? been a while..amazon would be instant surely

        • +5

The screen before the confirmation message says something about "Amazon will confirm that your account has received the related email"…So I doubt anyone here gets it unless they've cancelled

          • -3

@Ten: i asked live chat about it, they said they don't know anything about this (probs true) and they just gave me $15 promo credit from anything purchased through amazon au. pushed for the yearly prime but he auto applied the $15

            • @cephh: That’s pretty awesome

              • +1

@dammit: better than nothing! i cant complain

            • -1

@cephh: Nice. I'd be too fearful of Amazon's seemingly arbitrary retribution cutting customers off for no apparent reason.

              • @kiitos:

I'd be too fearful of Amazon's seemingly arbitrary retribution cutting customers off for no apparent reason.

Why would any business choose to remove paying customers for no reason?

                • @1st-Amendment: I've heard that they do it to accounts that have a large amount of credit…

    • Hopefully I can pick an activation date, as I want it to start 1 June, nice and clean

    • didnt get the email

  • +5

just cancelled mine let's see what will happen

  • +5

    Your response has been collected.
    Thank you.
You will receive a confirmation email shortly.

  • Ok waiting now

  • +4

I accidentaly joined the 30 day free trial recently so I just gave it a crack too :D

    • +2

      Yeah same

    • Probably not going to work but I submitted it as well lol.

  • +1

I pay annual fee and canceled now. Let's see if they offer anything!

  • +1

Has anyone cancelled and straight away tried getting one of the offers, even though their membership does not end for a number of months?

    • +1

I just did that, will see if I get anything

    • Have done it myself just now, it just says 'response recorded' and I 'should' get an email shortly. See what happens. (I have cancelled but my subscription doesn't end until November.)

  • +2

I didn't get an email but the link went through. Watch this space…..

    • +1

Same here. We can only try

    • Same

    • Same here, interested to to hear what happens

  • +4

This seems too good to be true, has anyone actually got the email with a code yet?

  • +2

    Checkin to see peoples results

  • +1

I really did cancelled mine but that’s due to a different reason. So they offered me the refund and of course I will take the refund.

    • Yeah I wasnt ordering much and cancelled, not sure if I'll take the refund or renew yet

  • +2

Not targeted as I have active annual subscription. Tried to cancel but it’s already paid up until next year. Doesn’t offer me option now and get refund l prorata, only saying it won’t renew next year. :(

    • Have you tried just clicking the link in the OP's description?

      • I was able to cancel my recently renewed 12 months and use OPs link to complete form.
Can't say if it will be accepted though.

  • +4

Cancelled a week ago. Never received this email. Clicked the link. Got the 12 months for free. That said, I cancelled because they barely send anything to my postcode anymore so don't know whether that was the smart move.

    • +1

      Did you receive a code?

      • Not yet

    • +2

      same reason I cancelled

not sure whether to go your route or other options!!

Why don't they simply say we have to pay a small fee rather than just say we won't deliver to you!!

  • +2

    I haven't cancelled but we'll see if I get a code.

    • +1

      me too fingers crossed lol

  • Your response has been collected.
lets wait and see!! finger cross!!

  • Sorry a bit confused, my Prime ends in Dec (so 7 months from now).
If I click the 12 month free code, I am really only getting additional 5 months free.
So does that mean I click pro-rated refund instead and pray that they send me a 12month code?

    • Or maybe the code will just tag on 12 months from December onwards?

    • +2

      it stacks

      • Good to know!

Do you receive a code or just gets added on automatically?

        • I think nobody receive a code yet.

          • +1

@superforever: I have received a code straight away. What to do now?

          • @superforever: Grannular said it stacks literally above my post. You would have to think they got a code if Amazon are sending codes, no?

  • I got the email too. Didn't know if it was legit. I cancelled just before Black Friday last year

  • +2

Following to see if those who cancel will receive an offer

    • +1

Not sure if you know but you can subscribe to all comments without needing to make a comment.

  • +1

Cancelled in Jan. Pro rated refund is $44. Undecided if I want $44 or subscribe again, I havent missed it much

  • +32

Only those cancelled customers are "valued customer", those still has active membership are nothing.

    • Yep, typical of just about all subscriptions. My renewal came up last month and was considering cancelling as I will soon be moving to a regional area, and the delivery there is extremely slow or non existent.

Only kept it in the meantime to watch a couple of shows I like, but even then, with the beyond annoying ads, they are not really worth keep the sub. Could happily do a month at a time twice a year. Which is what I will most likely do.

The contrarian in me almost wants this post to be heavily negged just to send a middle finger to Amazon. I can't neg it though, as it is an extremely good deal.

      • +1

If you watch on web browser with ad blocker like ublock origin installed the ads are gone.

        • +1

Cheers. Currently using Adblock Plus, which does nothing, but will check it out. Doesn't help with the lack of decent content or the future delivery problem though:)

  • +1

Have an active annual subscription. Clicked for 12 months free. I use this shit too much

  • Mine just renewed a few days ago, lets see if I can get a pro-rata refund

  • selected free prime, lets see.

  • +1

Just cancelled my auto 12 months renew which commences early July… Let's see if I get this offer!

  • -1

Well done OP. I was going to post this.

  • Anyone received the code yet and can say how long we have to activate it?

  • +28

They should do a similar refund for people in regional areas. Over the last year or so around 75% of all items on amazon cannot be delivered to regional areas any more with amazon prime.

They did this very sneakily by hiding all the items from search results if you live in a regional area.

    • +2

Yes this is very annoying and sneaky.

    • +14

Cancelled our membership because of this. The fact that they lie about it and gaslight regional users is the worst part. They could just charge extra shipping but instead they just pretend it's out of stock

  • Decided to cancel mine upon renewal in November and will weigh up whether it's worth $79 then. Probably will be charging $99 by then for it lol. I cancelled eBay Plus months ago and haven't looked back. Haven't needed to order anything on ebay for a long time. Amazon is mostly price matching for convenience these days, and I really don't want a house filled with 'Amazon Essential' labeled items.

    • +6

Haven't ordered anything from ebay for years now since started using amazon.

      • +1

I ordered something on ebay and it was delivered by amazon.
