    No luck on chat

    Got told I’m not eligible.

Then told me I can sign up for ad free Prime lol

  • +1

Connected to chat and they told me that I'm not eligible.

  • I have monthly subscription, clicked the link, logged in and accepted the 12 months voucher.
Never arrived as I actually don't qualify.
Contacted support, got call back, same story as others, don't qualify and I didn't actually receive the email or ever paid annually.
Contacted again via Chat, plead my case as unhappy with adverts, threatened to cancel subscription.
They offered me a three month refund of $29.97 which is a pretty good compromise.
I will keep subscription as use it for purchasing products.

  • Messaged and they wouldn't provide anything.

Cancelled and received 70% back of annual membership back, despite only a couple months to go until the end.

Ask the rep to cancel, get a refund, and subsequently resign up if finding Prime useful. I haven't used my membership for a while now.

    No luck

    • +1

Read what we have done here, chat with them, ignore that email.

  • +1

Spoke to them on the phone, looks like there's a directive from head office to not make any exemptions for people that didn't receive the e-mail.

  • Just talked to them and cancel my membership out of dissatisfaction. Mine only have less than a month to go and they refunded me for the whole year. You can always resubscribe later if you want to. :-)

  • +2

Prepaid for 12 months last year just before they announced advertisements would be forcefully penetrated in to a service i'd already purchased without advertising. I cancelled it then - will see how this pans out

  • I had mine roll over into the next year and was a month in. Chat was able to cancel with a full refund so I'm happy enough and if there are good savings to be had in the future then I'll look into it again.

  • I just had a random refund of $60 something dollars pop up on my credit card as a pending transaction but no email from Amazon. I can't remember what option I selected on the form but I though I selected +12 months membership.

  • +3

Chatted to them and they said they won’t do anything

  • +11

Is this even legal? The refund offer in itself seems to be acknowledgement that the change of the service around adverts should be enough to constitute a change in contract ?
That being the case, shouldn’t the refund be applicable to all that had prepaid their subscription prior to this change taking place ?
Can someone wake up the donkeys at the ACCC

    • +7

Don't forget that around the same time IIRC, they not only introduced the ads, but also bumped up the yearly price from $59 to $79.

  • Can confirm received a refund of $79 and active prime membership after having a chat with a rep, I just told him my friend got a refund and my experience due to the ads was also not great. If he can refund me $79 and he did, just received an email from Amazon confirming the refund.

    • just received an email from Amazon confirming the refund.

Didn't receive email but have it in my C.C. pending.

    • Did you ask to cancel the membership or just a refund?

  • Got the email denying me the offer. Went to chat to complain. Was refunded 50% of the cost of the currently active annual prime subscription.

    • We said here many many times, chat with them, ignore the email.

  • No idea what's going on here, no email, nothing pending in my CC, but, I see Prime membership until 29 May 2026 and under Prime Payments an entry for the same date that says:
    Total
    $79.00 (Refund)
    Order Number xxxxxxx
There are no receipts for this transaction

Rep clearly told me I was not eligible for this offer, so not sure what they did. Not complaining though, hope it stays like this.

  • Thanks OP. Cancelled a couple of months ago and got the 1 year free. Got email yesterday

  • +1

No luck from me, got the email denying me the offer so went to chat to complain. They told me to pay $2.99 per month to remove the ads going forward.

  • +1

They refused to do anything. Even though I was member from beginning. Cancelled my membership for $79 refund.

    • +2

      Same just cancelled aswell, grubs.

  • +1

No luck here. Told the same spiel about not being eligible. Then told them to cancel and refund my membership. They did without trying to keep me. Oh well might re-sign up again at another time.

  • so.. after a lengthy chat with several rep…he/she claims i have made over 800 purchases and have made use of my subscription and they cant offer a refund even if i cancelled
with only 2 months left. :) Weird… i didnt really push too hard as this person was closed minded and adhering to strict protocol from the specialised team that has given them order.

could it be people being offered the extension havent really made too much use of their prime account?

i wont lose sleep over it as I do use it quite a bit.

    • +1

over 800 purchases, you should ban yourself from amazon

      • The Amazon frugal trick really….. the whole family uses my account, add their own cc and their own addresses for delivery…

    • +1

They also told me something similar. I just told them I wouldn't have subscribed to begin with if I knew that ads were being added to Prime Video. They approved my refund request 5 seconds later. It was kinda funny. Try doing the same, it might work with you as well.

      • Hehe I tried that too. But they probably checked I have watched 0 videos. Good U scored ✌️

      • +1

I actually stopped using prime video after they pushed in the ads. So might give this a try

    • I'd be in a similar boat. The stats say I have $1,976
Prime savings in this year. 1333 bucks from delivery. So I suppose 100-200 deliveries/items at least.

I'll give it a go anyway

I had active prime before the date the ads were introduced, but was told I was not eligible.
They claimed the system is automated, so I couldn't get anything.
In the end I was offered credit of 3months prime.

    • Just to add: I was told I would get credit as gift card balance.
I didn't get any notification, but did get somehow a random order marked as not delivered and a refund (around the price of 3 months).
Looks like it depends on the person helping you and their goodwill gesture (more like a workaround to a managers' decision not to refund the fee itself…)

  • +2

My Prime is cancelled, and I was refunded $79. Now time to re-subscribe again since I use Amazon delivery quite often and just wanted to get some free months as well as see if I can get the free Deliveroo restarted.

I told Customer Support that the ads being added to Prime Video have made me dissatisfied with the service and would like to request a refund. They then told me that I was ineligible for a refund due to getting quite a number of things delivered as well as that I have already watched way too many shows. I then told them that if I knew that they were going to add ads to Prime Video, then I wouldn't have subscribed to Amazon Prime to begin with. They straight away agreed to refund me.

So anyone trying to get a refund through Customer, just pretty much tell them that you wouldn't have subscribed to begin with if you knew the ads were being added. They didn't argue back and just approved my refund request.

    • What are the chances if you've never watched or used prime video to begin with 😁? Maybe that's why they rejected my claim..when I said. I wouldn't have subscribed due to the ads 😆….

  • +1

You all are lucky. Spoken to 3 reps and they all insist on helping me cancel my sub if I'm unhappy.

  • +2

Didn’t work for me even though I cancelled last month. Oh well, good riddance to it. I’ll stick to AliExpress and occasionally eBay

  • I have been speaking with customer service. What were you guys saying to get refund? It seems I still have zero luck

  • Simar told me they will share my disappointment with their team. No bueno :(

    • +1

Lol. You are not going to sit there and take that are you. Tell them you will send round the OzBargain union representative, or if that doesn't work, you will send Pam.

      • +1

        Ozb sends bikies

        • +4

          nah we just send jv

  • +3

Lets all cancel and Not Resubscribe. It will be the real deal than thinking amazon will honor this lol. I actually cancelled my Prime annual member ship a few months ago. Not guna resub.

  • Just realised the $35 refund i managed to get them to do is headed for my "original payment method" which is a credit card account i happened to close months ago… what to do now, guess i'm getting nothing lol

    • You will still get it.
Contact the bank you had the card with for more information or they should contact you once they receive the money.

Due to the power of my Ozbargain Premium membership, I have been bestowed a life-long skill — resiliency of persistence.

After being rejected due to whatever reasons that have been shared in this thread by numerous others above, I just kept “End Chat” and restart hoping for one generous CS. Also tried claiming via OP’s link for 12 months extension and got that same bs rejection ineligible email. No matter.

If it helps, I went the route “Visit CS > Prime Video > Prime Video & Live Streaming > Ads in Prime Video”

Drafted a template in Notes and simply copy pasted this:

Hello, I’m unhappy with prime annual price going up, and added numerous annoying ads on top of that on Prime Video.
If I had known ads were being added i wouldn’t have continued my paid subscription.
I wasn’t eligible for the extra 12 months offer and I feel discriminated against.
    I request a refund pls.

until I get a submissive CS and finally after more than 8 attempts, no resistance and straight out $79 refunded to my GC balance (How I paid it back in March 2025)

FYI I did NOT cancel my sub, and don’t mention anything about cancelling sub either, simply ask for refund.

You’re welcome to use my drafted complaint and best of luck! Just be persistent and don’t easily give up! 💪

    • -1

As you informed about the claim of 12-month free membership offer, it is eligible for only few accounts and the link is only sent to them it is nothing related to all the amazon accounts.

And we can't do anything from our end on this.

I hope you understand our limitations.

      My membership cycle is october

      • +1

I got that response as well as part of my failed attempts.

The day before my successful attempt, some CS offered me:
        1. Refund but cancelled membership immediately
        2. Refund partially
Both which I consider failed attempts, so I didn’t bite.

So again it depends on your persistence, if you’re happy with any outcome other than full refund and still keeping your sub, then power to you

    • Gives me hope

      • I woke up. Used your template. And started chatting. Still no refund or extension. I asked for my case to be escalated. This is third time trying. How many more can I go

        • +3

          after more than 8 attempts

If you don't get any straight out "I will refund you $79…" answer or along those lines, End chat and rinse repeat.

          • +1

@noelhoi: Finally, today, I got a refund of $79. My Prime was expriing on Aug. Now, I will go ahead and start a new prime next month. OzBargain taught me so much.

            Thanks mate . Thanks @noelhoi :)

            • +1

@welcomeUniverseWorld: I got the $79 refunded. I can see on my credit card as pending. And, I go ahead and start a new prime for next 1 year. In essence I got 10 months free.

    • +2

Well, after not believing you after at least 8 attempts, it happened. Full refund and membership unchanged. Thank you for the drafted note too.

I wonder if there is a threshold of requests or it really is luck of the draw?

    • +1

Thank you! I used your template, I ended up getting disconnected 3 times due to the 2 minute timer. The 3rd rep actually had flat out rejected the refund due to the used benefits (the first 2 disconnected whilst they were checking what they could do) and the 4th just said they have refunded to the original form of payment no questions asked.

    • +1

Success on the first try… just waiting for the refund.
Thanks for the template and step by step guidance. Appreciate it mate.

    • +1

Thank you, used your draft and succeeded on the 2nd try!

  • Has anyone claimed their 12 months free via email? I cancelled beginning of May then subscribed again end of May and received the email, not sure if activating the 12 months will add onto my current subscription!

  • There is no refund eligibilty for this subscription as prime benefits were used

The system does not allow any refund if the prime benefits are used
Let me still check with the leadership team if we can make an exception

Okay please allow me sometime to check
Hey i checked with the leadership team as well
We wont be able to refund

  • Would this work if subscription to prime ended last month and I didn't renew?

  • Received an email stating that I was not eligible for this offer. Went to chat and got refunded $79 first try. Thanks OP!

    • +2

      how how…..

      • how how…..

Read from page 1 or this thread.

Anyone who used telstra point voucher for renewals able to get extension?

    • Not us.

  • -1

    Received email as below,

    Dear Customer,

We have reviewed your application to receive a pro-rated refund of your past Prime plan or a free 12-months of Prime.

Unfortunately, your account does not meet the required conditions and you are therefore not entitled to one of these options. Only customers who received an email from Prime Video are eligible to redeem this offer.

If you did receive communication from Prime Video about the offer make sure you follow the link in that email and log-in using your Amazon Account details linked to that email address.

    Sincerely,
    The Amazon Prime team

  • I've got rejected as well. Contact the support and get only $5 voucher.

They said you have to be an annual subscriber before 21 May 2024. Even I joined them for longer than that on monthly.

Anyway I end of my subscription anyway to switch to something else for awhile.

    • +1

I would say don't cry, but I won't hold you back if you do.

  • +1

I got the rejection email but jumped onto chat and asked about the 12 month code, they said they can't give me the code but will refund the $79 and I can keep my annual prime membership.

    That was easier than expected.

    • Nope, they didn't budge.

  • Hi guys,
I didn’t know about this “deal” so I just signed up the annual subscription last week.

If I select the 12 months Prime free option now, does it mean they would refund $79 to me and I still get the annual subscription?

    Thanks

  • +3

Tried my fifth time today and still no good. I think I give up.

    • How can you give up as a OzBargainer?

      • Update - tried my eighth time today and declined again. This time they told me i purchased over 120+ items and watched 90 shows in the last year so they will not refund me.

        • Damn. They are persistent. Mine worked on 4th or 5th try.

  • I got a $50 promotional certificate to use instead of 12 months/refund
Cancelled renewal a few days ago and just did it on live chat

Didn't click on the form in the OP

  • +1

first attempt and got $79 refund (in email - not eligible)

    • What did you say? I have tried but they didn't budge and I stopped my auto renewal which was today and have no prime now..

      • I requested a refund for Prime Video, stating that I had stopped using the service because of the advertisements. While I did stop using it, I'm unsure if this was verified before the refund was issued

  • So still not sure what's gonna happen but if I received the $79 refund but my Prime is still working does that mean I have been successful??

    What I did:
Went on chat and asked to cancel my membership and get a pro-rata refund. Agent said I'd get a partial refund. Then I complained about ads but after they asked if I have received an email blah blah they said I wasn't eligible for the voucher or refund. So I said to continue with cancelation and give me the pro-rata refund.

After not getting the refund after 1 day I contacted chat and asked said I had a pro-rata refund but wanted the full $79 back. I assume they have the chat log to view. Agent said ok and refunded $79 immediately. I expected my membership to be cancelled but it still seems to work.

So in essence is this what I wanted? A refund of $79 but still maintain my membership? Or are they gonna cancel it after a few days and there's a lag in the system?

    • Could be that it may continue for few days or may be a month or if lucky then have it for free for whole year like others have.

    • +3

      Victory is yours mate 🙂
$79 refund and keep membership active. The later the expiry, the more “victory smug” you’re entitled to 🤭
Eg. Mine was just renewed in March’25 so it will last til March’26, got refund in end May means still got another ~10months of free membership for this period

    • +1

Got the same outcome. Membership remains active but $79 will be refunded to my CC

  • +1

I did get the email (cancelled in Jan this year) and requested a free year of Prime. Took 36 hrs to get the confirmation email (chat support said I was definitely eligible and it could take up to 72 hrs for the email when I asked—a few hours after requesting it)

    • +1

I received e-mail too- selected for free year of Prime but haven't heard back (it's been about a day now)

Edit: Just double checked my inbox and received e-mail reply with link!

      • If your link is successful, maybe after applying that, try double dipping as I said above if it’s possible.

        • I clicked the link, got email saying i was not qualified.

As per my previous posts, I get $79 refund as requested.

        • That's being very naughty! Surely they could see that the reactivated Prime membership is via a redemption code and not paid for and probably wouldn't refund?

          • @Craze: This is ozb… where every loophole is exploitable, it’s up to you if you want to go the extra mile or not, but if I were you I’d try. If you’re lucky, those CS who refunds usually replies within few seconds of you complaining. With that in mind, i doubt they even bother to check the details of your account or the legitimacy of your complaint. They prolly just cbf and refund you based on your (ungrounded) complaint. Find that particular CS, and you’re laffin. 🤞

  • Has anyone seen the refund in their accounts yet?

I had $79 refunded to credit card and it been 6 business days and still no good.

    • Yes, I got in my credit card

      • How long from the date you had Amazon confirm to your bank please?

        • Received on Friday 30th May. Requested on the day of this post.

          • +1

@NPB: Thank you. Time to check with Amazon again.

  • +3

Finally got the refund to my credit card. My Prime still hasn't been cancelled so I guess they forgot to.

  • I tried about 10 times, but no one would refund without cancelling. So i settled for a full refund with cancellation, I was about 4 months in, so it's still something.
