Not a bad deal if you are in the market for the security cameras.

They also have the solar model for $93, which is non-tilt if you want a stationary option with no power cable. (I am using this already and quite happy with it) https://amzn.asia/d/6uezEHz

Also, they have a smart bell on special for $199. https://amzn.asia/d/fT2Dkcn

Good timing for me to fully switch to the Tapo eco-system!

  • Does it support ONVIF?

    • yes, and RTSP

    • For a second, thought you said, does it support OnlyFans

      • +2

You need a much better camera to support OnlyFans. So I've heard.

  • I have the C520WS for over 6 months and its great. No complaints at all. This model appears to be slightly higher res 3K instead of 2K. Not sure if it still DIY friendly using an AU Plug though??

How is this compared to Eufy/Reolink?

    • My reolink (indoor n outdoor) started dying after 2 years + so looking into these too…

    • I have TP Link C420 and C210, it's AI is quite bad, it can detect people in car head lights, cars, spider webs, fog/mist, rain. In comparison eufy does make mistakes occasionally but at least they're animals, like cats, possums birds.

Many people will want to keep their cameras in human detect mode at night, but with TP-link you may end up turning notifications off at night which defeats the purpose of them.

    • bear in mind that you can mute the notification of a Eufy camera in the app for a set period like 30mins 1hr 2hr etc
      but you can't mute a TP-Link Tapo

      • This is objectively incorrect.

        • +1

I have C110 and I can't ad hoc mute notification from it without setting a schedule, could you point to me how to do it please?

          • -1

@Jasongood: I'm sorry, but the statement was this
            "But you can't mute a TP-Link Tapo."

Even using context for a uh, specific use-case, you can't then add a caveat of not allowing scheduling in the following post replying to me. If you mentioned that originally, I'd agree.

So yes, you cannot mute for set time amounts but you can otherwise. If you really need to do that though, android or IOS both handle it on an OS level

        • +1

In the place of the easy to locate mute in the corner of the video screen on eufy's TP-links have a privacy icon instead which turns the cameras off completely. It is quite ridiculous, never have I wanted to turn cameras off, but many times I want to stop them sending notifications.

On TP-link it's very involved to turn off the notifications, I have to go into the menu setting turn off notifications, then go into smart options, and turn that off, then would have to disconnect the TP link camera from my Google hub to stop it notifying.
I could be wrong but I think they all have to be turned off separately (if using all 3 methods of notification)

          • @bobvegas: Why not just turn them off via android or IOS then?
Also, you can just uncheck the device button in the notification menu and that does it for all.

            • +1

@LINK91: Do it enough times you'll get sick of it, you have to go into a menu, then a sub menu to turn on and off, also it doesn't show if notifications are on or off, that's also a negative,
What you are speaking about is phone alerts, but with TP link, I also have notifications via smart actions for smart devices and also via google hub or alexa. these all have to be turned off separately via menus under menus. and there's no way of knowing if turned on or off unless you go back into the menus.

    • Reolink have complete security system package instead of just an indoor and outdoor one like Tp-link, they also have huge variety of different choices of cameras to suit different purposes, so if u are into its Eco system, then Reolink is a better choice. I prefer Reolink’s app more as it is much more user friendly on the other hand as well.

  • Do these ones have any subscription BS?

    • you can run an sd card otherwise looks like minimum sub is $59 per year

      • +4

If you have a Turkish Apple ID, Tapo subscription is 42 Lira (~1.67AUD) /month/camera. Also cheaper with multiple cameras/annual subscription.

    • +1

only if you want cloud, not required

  • Does the solar panel provide enough power to run without downtime? Which area are you in?

    • +2

Yes, mine usually get to 95% charge within a couple of hours in the morning and charge stays on. The minimum charge I have seen is >60% at any given time. No issues even in the rainy season. it’s probably a magic of the inbuilt battery in the camera to start with to keep the maximum charge despite all night monitoring.

  • Does anyone know what the diff is bw this model and TC43? Priced same and same specs from what I can see.

  • Note AFAIK tapo don't work with standard DVRs, vigi do

    • Working with my dahua

      • It’s Wi-Fi, how do you connect it? Plug router into the DVR camera input port?

        • If it's connected to the same network it should come up when you go to add camera.

If it doesn't then you may have some firewalls and need some googling.

          • @Lingnoi: Oh sweet, might be worth buying then

I was thinking I'd have to set up a DVR on my NAS

  • Does this work with the H200 hub?

    • +1

      Yes

      • Thanks bought.

I already use C210 cameras for over a year and they are really good. Except the IR at night is crap because all you see are close up cobwebs. Im hoping this "starlight" nonsense works better than that.

  • I have 8 Tapo cameras and they all have been great.
The outdoor ones with starlight are awesome, no more infrared.

  • +1

Wait……so, it stores footage on the SD card which means a thief can just yank this off the wall and be done with it and all the footage? Or is there a way to remotely store the video on a DIY server locally in the house without paying a cloud subscription fee?

    • +1

I'm going to use them with my H200 hub (which came in a kit with my older tapo cameras), which has its own SD card.

  • Isn't EZVIZ CS-H9C a better option? Its $119.20 at Big W

    • In a comparison between EZVIZ and TP-Link Tapo cameras, Tapo often stands out for its superior AI features, faster and more accurate person detection, and slightly richer color night vision. While both brands offer excellent video quality and local storage options, Tapo's AI capabilities and potential for integration with other smart home ecosystems like Alexa can be a significant advantage. EZVIZ, on the other hand, excels in offering very affordable and basic security cameras with good motion detection, making them a budget-friendly choice.

  • Hmmm. I've just set mine up with my H200 hub and it doesn't record to the hub, it says the firmware version isn't compatible.

On the tapo website it says the H200 hub needs to be hardware V1. My hub is V1 and tapo app says the firmware is up to date.

The camera is V2 which is also what is required but it says firmware "July 2025". My camera is V2 but the firmware date appears to be March 25. And again, tapo app says the cameras firmware is up to date?

Ahh wait I have misread. It seems hub support will be added in July 2025. Grrr.
